Upgrade to an AP?

At the Disneyland Resort, if you purchase a passport, one day or multi-day, you can apply the cost of that passport (as long as it hasn't expired yet) toward the cost of an annual passport.

Can anyone out there tell me if it works the same way at Disney World?

You can always trade up. They will prorate the number of days you have left on your pass and apply it to an AP.
