Upgrade to a mod?

I currently have my September 10 day trip book at Pop but with the room discount I can upgrade to CSR or CBR for about $250 more. This is my first ever trip so I don't really have a touring style developed to say if I'd enjoy more times in the parks or relaxing at the resort.

My other concern is the amount of construction at both moderate resorts. I don't want to spend the extra money if the amenities that come with the mods are closed due to construction.

What is everyone's thoughts?

I agree - STAY AT POP!!! We stayed at CBR in March. The place is a construction zone - it is beyond "renovations". CBR is a downgrade compared to POP. (Based on our experience 2 months ago).

If it is your first trip, most likely you will be spending your time at the parks and not the resort.
I would stay at the POP and spend the money on restaurants, souveniers, etc.
Our first few trips, we spent very little time at the resorts except to sleep.

With major construction going on at CBR and not as major construction plus the main pool closed at CSR, I would stick with POP. One of the big upgrades of staying at a moderate is the upgraded pool with hot tubs and slide. You won't have that at CSR if the main pool is closed. And at CBR, the construction looks to be everywhere with all the restaurants, gondola, and DVC resort all under construction. The only mods that might be worth the upgrade right now would be the 2 PO resorts as nothing major is going on there.

I woudl much prefer a value resot to any resort under construction. If you move to CBR your stay may actually be a downgrade ratehr than an upgrade.

I'd still choose Pop even if there was no construction at CBR or CSR. I might consider POFQ though.

Given the construction/pool closure I would stay at Pop. Maybe get the Plus feature for your tickets so you can enjoy the waterparks if the pool at Pop is too plain.

I would stay at Pop. It's a great resort!

We love CSR, but I wouldn't want to stay there with the construction situation as it is, especially for a first trip. Also as a PP mentioned the feature pool will be closing in September. That's a deal breaker for us. We didn't enjoy CBR so I wouldn't recommend it, construction or not.

I would stay at Pop unless you could get POR for the same rate as the other two moderates you mentioned.

I wouldn't move to CBR or CSR due to the major construction at those resorts, as PPs said.

Note that Pop's rooms are renovated (see the thread - likely all or almost all done by Sep so you'll get a renovated room). And you can walk between Pop and AoA, to eat at both food courts and take both buses. (I.e., when you go from a park to resort, the bus stops for Pop and AoA are next to each other - IIRC at all 4 parks but confirm if relying on that - so if lines aren't long you can just take which ever arrives first and walk over the bridge to Pop.) AoA has a great food court - interesting food.

FYI Pop has construction at the lake - the gondola. We only heard noise once, and thought it was thunder. It wasn't bad and it isn't an eyesore, at least not in April. I.e., lots of pretty lake views still. HTH.

I usually almost always recommend upgrading to a moderate resort, however, I would not upgrade to CSR or CBR during that time frame too many of the amenities that we consider important for upgrading to a moderate resort will not be available to you. If you could get POR or POFQ for the same price I would absolutely recommend upgrading.

Thanks for the input everyone, I wasn't too worried about loosing the feature pool at CSR since I'm solo but thought the dining options would be a nice plus. I also heard centertown construction at CBR is "expected" to be completed by fall but based on what I know about Disney they aren't the best at making their "expected" dates.

POFQ/POR will be closer to $600 to upgrade which puts them just out of my price range. I'm assuming there was no need to discount those as much since they're the only moderate resorts not undergoing major construction.
