Hi all,

This will be my first trip on the dining plan - we booked at CSR with regular free dining in August. I've seen various posts (which I can't find anymore) so I thought I'd ask the experts....

1. I've seen posts about upgrading/paying extra for the deluxe dining plan for only part of a stay. Is that possible? If so, do you have to use those dining credits on those days only? The only reason I am thinking about this is that I got ressies at Le Cellier and CRT.

2. I have been reading about the lack of variety on the kids' menus. DS will be 8 when we go - is it possible (and worth it) to try and list him as an "adult" for the dining plan? Some places he would probably be ok with the kids menu, but other places (like Teppan Edo- he loves hibachi places) he would want one of the adult choices.

Thanks all!

I believe that you must upgrade the whole trip or none. Also if you make your child 10 then you would have to make his park ticket to an "adult".

if you have free dining, it would be worth upgrading him, the difference in a kids ticket and an adult ticket couldn't be much (never priced it though:laughing:). Upgrading from DDP to the DXDP.....I can not even imagine! We feel like we are rolling thru the world on the DDP:rotfl:, I can not imagine any more food! JMO

You have to upgrade for the entire time. However, I'd upgrade your son to an adult for the minimal number of dollars it takes to pay for that. Then pay oop for some of his meals (when he opts for a kids meal instead of adult) and use his extra adult meals to cover your CRT and Le Cellier. It may take a little planning up front but it could save you quite a bit.

(For example if you eat at Kona a kids meal is $9. So if he decides he wants something from he kids meal pay $9 there and you have 1 extra ts meal for an adult later. )

1. What you are talking about is when people do a split stay in order to do the Premium dining plan for one or two nights, in order to get tickets for LaNouba, etc.

2. It is all or nothing; you would have to upgrade the child to an adult meal plan for the length of your stay and then also get an adult ticket as well.

We love the deluxe plan and always upgrade to deluxe dining if we're staying on a free dining offer, but you have to do so for the entire length of your stay. The only way around that is to split your stay into two different packages but because that requires a separate ticket purchase for each part of the stay it isn't cost-effective to do so. Generally the only way two different dining plans makes sense is if your'e an AP holder or staying on DVC points, and free dining isn't available in either of those situations.

As far as upgrading to an adult, you just have to pay the ticket price difference which is between $2.50 and $8 per ticket-day depending on the length of your tickets. On a 10 day ticket the difference is about $25. If your son likes adult foods I'd strongly recommend upgrading him, as a lot of the kids' menus are rather lacking (not Teppan Edo, though - there are chicken and shrimp hibachi options on the kids' menu there).

Thanks SO much for all the replies! I knew I'd get the answers here!

Jen Mouse!
