Upgrade question

A recent frustrating example was at my daughter's school choir concert where I was a few rows back, trying to get a close up shot of just her face as she was singing.

You need to get up out of you seat and move closer to the subject! You need to be close enough to use an external flash.

This is a case where more effort is needed with existing equipment, rather then looking for the "magic" lens.
