Hi there! The family is going to OKW for a week at the beginning of December (we're not DVC members but are staying in a DVC member's studio). I've ocassionally seen posts about upgrades at the desk at check-in, how does that work? We're also landing in Orlando in the morning, well before check-in. I've read that we can just leave our luggage at OKW and head to the parks; is that correct?

Thanks in advance; getting more psyched than my 5 year old!

Upgrades are very rare for points stays, usually only if there are problems like rooms out of service for renovations.

You can leave your bags at the bell station at the entrance to the check-in building.

Many timeshares will let you pay the cash difference between the rack rates for the two units but I haven't heard of DVC allowing that. It never hurts to ask though. You actually may be able to get in your room when you arrive due to the current methoid of assigning rooms.

Always ask. The worst thing anyone can ever say is "no." If you don't ask, you don't have a chance at all.

Just to clarify -- you can go and check-in when you arrive. Your room probably will not be ready but you can take care of all the paperwork. You will then get a phone number to call to check later in the day to see when your room is ready. Bell service will hold your bags or, if you have a car, you can leave them in the trunk.

It would be rare to get an upgrade on a point stay, but very possible on a cash ressie. I would think it would also be more difficult to upgrade from a studio. This will all be near impossible at the beginning of December, since the DVC resorts are full at that time.
