upgrade from child to adult dining plan?

I haven't done the age change, but others have posted that they change them the next time they book a package. I remember one person uped their child to 10 and then the next trip back down as they were paying for the DDP.

She did mention another issue that wouldn't come up for us since we live in Georgia, but it could be an issue for others. She said that if we were looking to fly and have our airline tickets be part of our WDW package, then there would be problems there since the airlines/TSA have cracked down on making sure that all names and birthdates on airlines are correct. So I'm not sure if someone getting airfare in their package could upgrade a child to adult dining based on what she told me - you'd have to really look into that if it applies to you.

That makes sense. I know a lot of UK visitors take advantage of Free Dining and they want to up their child's age, but they can't. It does make sense when you are flying that the ages should match up.

We will be flying but it won't affect my ability up my son's age if I want because we bought our flights separate from our package.

What do you have now? QSDP or DDP? Are you paying for the dining plan or is it Free Dining?

If you put your children in as 10 the price difference will only be the price difference of going from a child's ticket to an adult ticket if you are on Free Dining. If you upgraded the QSDP to DDP then you need to add in another $10 per child. If you have 2 children that are 10 and up then it might be better to switch to a moderate resort as the price difference between upgrading 4 adult's QSDP to the DDP is about the same as staying at a moderate.

Most rooms only allow 4 people per room, child under three is fine. If there are only 2 adults and two children (10-18) they are considered juniors so they don't affect the extra adult charge per night which is I believe is $10 at a value resort, $15 at a moderate.

Sorry, I was in a rush this am but i should have given all of the details. We are staying at CBR, so free dining plan. And it's only me and the 2 kids going. And we are staying for 14 days. I hope that answers any questions.

A castmember told me that kids can either choose of the kids menu or get a kids sized adult menu.
Would that help for you?

I don't think the CM was correct. They will not allow you to order a kids sized portion of the adult menu at any of the TS.

Then the price difference should only be the cost of changing the child's tickets (X2) to adult tickets (X2). I'm not sure what the price difference is but it can't be too much. Do you have 10 day park tickets?

I don't think I read that right the first time I read it. I thought they were saying could a 10 or over child (or bumped up like this thread is about) order a larger portion of something (like chicken fingers) on the child menu at a TS place. Is this allowed at most TS places?

It is my understanding that if you upgrade your child to an *adult* on the Dining Plan, then they can order off the childs menu (not sure if they increase the portion size) or anything off the adults menu.

A *child* on the Dining Plan cannot order a child size portion of something off the adult menu.

At the TS meals you can ask for an adult's sized portion of a child's meal and use an adult credit to pay. You can also ask for anything that is on the adult menu to have no sauces, etc on it.

If you up your younger child to the adult plan, you can also let them eat off the kids meals (if they prefer it) at CS and TS (not buffet/family style, dinner shows) and pay out of pocket for the meal and save the credit. If you save up a few TS credits, you can go to another TS.

I called Disney yesterday to see how much more it would be. I went ahead and upgraded them. It was only 70.30 more. Both of the kids are tired of eating off of the kids menu. It's the same thing. I told my daughter and she got soo excited!! She said that the adult menu is sooo big and ours is sooo small! I had to laugh at her.

Can you do this for a child as young as 5? I know that may sound strange, but she's mroe of a steak sort of girl than chicken nuggets. Last year, she got really bored with the kids offerings. Would they say anything at the gate if she was getting in with an adult ticket, but obviously wasn't that old?

I don't know.

I wouldn't bother uping a child that young. I shared my CS chicken meal with my niece. She had steak at Le Cellier and possiblly another TS. You can find more childrens CS options (someone made a list), I know Sunshine Seasons has a variety of other CS food for kids.

Remember, you are now tipping on an adults meal if you up your child.

Ok, I have another question about doing this. We are a family of 5 staying at POR. If we bump up our 7 yr old to 10 during our free dining stay, will they have a problem because it looks like we have a 10 yr old sleeping on the trundle bed? Also, what if we come back the next year. Will they insist my then 8 yr old is 11 and so needs an adult ticket? I guess what I am asking is will his age be forever thrown off by 3 yrs according to Disney and I be charged for an extra adult in the room when he is only 15?

Other than all of these worries, LOL, it might be worth it to spend $35 for having him not be the only one who can't choose the same type of desserts especially for TS.

We upgraded our DD9. The CM had the worst time with it. She was very nice about it all but just couldn't get the age to change. She had to get a supervisor to help. After the age was "fixed" she came back to confirm and she said a screen popped up warning that we should (could?) not do POR because 10 is too old for the trundle bed. BUT, thankfully, she was able to override it and put everything through. So...if they tell you the can't do it just ask for them to override it. It can be done.

Our little guy is 5 and looking at some of the menu's at the restuarants we're going to there's alot of chicken nuggets/strips in his future. If the price is that minimal, it might be worth the upgrade to just not have to worry about limited selections. Anyone have an issue with upgrading with someone of that age?

I don't know, but I am the other person interested in this. The other reason I am interested is that we could share a QS breakfast and lunch if we do it this way. Also, as I mentioned before... she got really bored with the QS options available to kids last trip. We would come to the table with lots of wonderful food and she would have the same old same old. She just really isn't one of those kids that can eat chicken nuggets or uncrustables for an entire week.

I think this sounds like a great idea! I might call and upgrade DD8. We don't have a problem with TS meals, as far as variety and portions go.CS meals are another story. Some of the kids meals are pretty small (kids pizza, for example) and the lack of desserts and variety is more of an issue.

Do servers ever look at you funny though, when your KTTW card says two adults and one of you is obviously under 10? LOL. Just wondering. DD is kinda small for her age.

We upgraded our nephew (who was 8 when we went) and not once did anyone look at us funny...
