I am on the 3 day wonder during April vacation. I am taking my girl friend, her daughter and mine (both age 7). I was able to get an upgrade for $1200.00. Do you think it was worth it? I was thinking yes for more space, the privacy of a bedroom door, and 2 bathrooms.

Hi there...

Sorry, I don't understand your comment... did you mean you paid 1200.00 more to change from category 4 to category 3?

That amount sounds about right for the price difference normally in those two categories... I booked at Cat 3 and it was about 1400.00 more than a cat 4 for August.

Sounds like alot of fun with the two girls.. they will have a blast!

Yes, you are corredt. I paid an additional $1200.00 for the upgrade. It actually less than it should be, because my girlfriend is a travle agent and she took her commission off.

Everybody has to decide for themselves how important the room is vs the money. I personally would not pay $400 a day extra on only a 3 day cruise, I would not even pay it on a 7 day. We have had nothing but a CAT 9 on all our cruises, and we are extremely happy with the money we save, 1- 4 day, 2- 7 day and the 4th cruise booked for August. Actually this cruise is free, I figured up the extra cost of a CAT 4 room and with what I saved this year is free. So this person would rather cruise every year in a CAT 9 then every 2 or 3 years in a CAT 4.

I have to agree with Markey.....we used to sail in Cat 4 for our family of 5 when the kids were a bit younger. But, now that they are in their teens we get two Cat 9's and we like it much better and we save some money.

Cat 4's are very nice for 4 people, especially if 2 of them are children. I personally would have saved the extra 1,200 for other things, like shore excursions and drinks. Our onboard account (from all our purchases) ran over $1,200 on our last cruise.

One of the things that makes a cruise fun is that you can choose the type of stateroom that works best for your budget and you. For my husband and I, we love verandas, lots of room, feeling spoiled, etc. so a category 3 is perfect. We tend to spend a fair amount of time in the cabin with a "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door so our choice would be different than someone who plans on excursions or is traveling with small children. :D

It is definiately a personal choice things. We all feel differently on where we want to spend our money. We would all be boring if we didn't!!!!

You will have a wonderful time in Cat 3... and your girlfriend saving you the commission is a great bonus.

What cabin are you in? they have different bedding set ups - it would be better if the murphy bed was in the livingroom instead of the bedroom so you could have some extra privacy.

There is also the fold down sofa in the living room area.

Cat 3 comes with some extra perks... priority boarding, priority spa & palo reservations, in room movies to borrow, games, treats and snacks in your room.

Enjoy

8546 is not one of the larger category 3 rooms with the murphy in the living room. That cabin has the extra bed in the master bedroom. If both 7 year olds will share a sofa bed, it will be a great room, I'm sure. Have a wonderful time!

That cabin also doesn't have the triple wide verandah. I would try to change to 8032, 8034, 8532, 8534 if that is possible.

Mkripke - don't get freaked out by all this cat 3 info...

The cabins are all about the same square footage - but the ones that ducklite mentioned are wider but not as deep. Therefore they have the triple verandah. These are also the cabins with the murphy bed in the living area instead of the bedroom.

Your cabin is narrower but deeper - like I said, about the same square footage overall.

If the girls will sleep together on the fold down couch it would be a perfect set up.. they would have the big TV and would have a great slumber party. Two - 7 year old girls... what fun!

You will have a wonderful time in 8546...

Have a great holiday

I have to add my 2 cents worth. I feel that a cruise is not something I do every day:( so when I do get to do it, I want the best that I can afford. Go for the cat #3! You only live once!!

It was the only CAt 3 available. It is April vacation week. Actually, it didn't become available til yesterday afternoon.

Go for it! We loved our Cat 3 and it will give you the privacy you are looking for. We love to feel pampered which we did in our Cat 3!

mkripke--
We are in a cat. 4 for spring vacation 2004 but waitlisted for a cat. 3. Were you on the waitlist and for how long? 2004 seems so far away--we are jealous of you! BTW, no question, we would go for it for the extra room alone.

No, I wasn't waitlisted, my girlfriend called me and said that Disney called and said a Cat 3 became available. i am waitlisted for first seating for dinner.

I think it would depend upon how many are in your party.
We just upgraded from a cat. 4 to cat. 3 for our May 10th cruise, it was about $2500. more that is for 5 of us, 2 adults and 3 children.
We were on the waiting list, but I was told by a CM to call instead of waiting for the waiting list, especially around the time final payments are due. On one of my calls a CM told me that a cat. 3 was on hold, and if the deposit wasn't received it would be released. We called the day after the deposit should have been received, and the cat. 3 was available !! woohoo !

Have a Great Trip !
