Upgrade from ASMo to CSR Worth It?

We are booked at ASMo Apr 11-17 and it would be $320 extra to change to CSR in a standard room. I think we would be more comfortable having the extra space and the nicer pool. It’s a not a big amount extra but it’s right at that border where I have to ask is it worth it? We will have a rental car so I’m not worried about buses but I am concerned about what is currently available for quick service at CSR which doesn’t seem like a whole of choice right now. Having the car means we can go wherever to eat so I’m kinda on the fence here. Opinions? Thought? TIA

What’s the age makeup of your group, if you don’t mind me asking?

Opinions will vary, but personally I would prefer CSR over ASMov.

Your observation of the food options at CSR is on point - that’s the biggest thing to size up and make sure it works for you. Things at El Mercado keep changing bit by bit. For example, they recently added evening hours. But offerings are very limited. I like the CSR dining options that are open, but many don’t.

I guess worth noting we don’t know yet just what the food court situation at ASMov will be like.

If having the nicer pool and a bigger room is worth it to you, then yes. I stayed at CSR in Jan for a girls trip (was supposed to be for the marathon) and it was lovely. I didn’t like the lack of QS options or the fact that there are basically 2 lobbies now. The new one in the Tower which is gorgeous, and then down the stairs or elevator, thru a long walkway you get to the old lobby where the store is. A little bit further is where the QS and the 1 TS is. I know, first world problems! My family has a trip in June booked and it was originally in the Tower, but we’ve switched to a split stay between ASMo Preferred and WL. We’ve saved over $300 and we’re very happy with our decision! I don’t think my guys would be happy with the food options/convenience of food options at CSR. Of course, we don’t know what the food options are going to be yet at ASMo, so maybe it was a mistake!

That whole setup is a little odd, isn’t it? I’ll be honest, I was pretty confused/turned around during my first CSR visit. That quickly resolved itself over other visits, but for a few moments at first I was like “I don’t get this place!”

We have enjoyed both resorts. When we stay at ASMo we request a room in the Might Ducks section. It is so close to ASMu so it like a preferred room for that resort. That section is usually the cheapest one.

We have also enjoyed CSR. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving meal there one year. It is a beautiful resort.

Just to throw in another curve. What is the price difference between Caribbean Beach and Coronado Springs? CB has the Skyliner you could take to HS and Epcot. You could ditch the rental car and allocate that money for the resort or meals.

Have a great trip!

It’s just me (48) and my DS 14. He has special needs so his maturity age is less than that but he really doesn’t care about theming at ASMo

Yeah that is a good point about what will be offered at ASMo food court. If I decide to stay where I am, then Im hoping it will be similar to what’s at Pop.

I checked CBR, they only have Pirates rooms left that week and the difference is like $750 so that would be too much and I think Pirates are a long walk from the food court. Correct me if I’m wrong.

thanks for all the good advice, it gives me more to go on. I’m still not decided and CSR would be a slam dunk if not for the food situation but maybe it’s worth it to make it work.

Have stayed at both resorts and have stayed both in the Tower, Casitas and Cabana sections of CSR. I would do CSR hands down over ASM even with limited food options. AS resorts remind me of a roadside motel where CSR is a lovely resort. We love the Cabanas area of rooms though the Tower was also nice but more money.

Yes, 100% worth it. We aren't resort snobs in any way and spend most time in the parks. Honestly, I'd stay off property at a local Hampton Inn for $100 a night before staying at an all star. If you are willing to spend the few hundred for CSR, it is well worth it. It feels like a resort, not a Jersey shore motel.

I think the All Stars are OK and just down the street from CSR, so the location is pretty similar, especially with a rental car. But, CSR is a far superior resort and more relaxing than ASM. If the money isn't an issue, I'd choose CSR for sure. The quiet pools alone always make the upgrade worth it for my family to a moderate.
