Just a quick ? has anyone ever got a up grade from a studio to a one bedroom and if so how did this happen? If they are one bedrooms when you check in and ask would they upgrade you is there a fee ? I know I read on here some people got a free upgrade in HH just a thought.

If you are staying on points, you get what you reserved. Unless there is some problem and they don't have anything to give you. We were once upgraded to a onebedroom from a studio for a single cash night before we moved into a one bedroom on points. We were paying cash for the studio and they offered us the one bedroom for the same price.

Upgrades are extremely rare and, as Deb & Bill noted, typically only happen for maintenance reasons. DVC sells enough points such that a resort could be booked solid 365 days a year. Members can, and do, occasionally call and book a room using their points on zero notice. Simply due to the nature of the system, it's better to leave a room empty and chance that someome might end up renting it (either for cash or points) rather than to aribtrarily hand out free upgrades.

As the others have stated it very rarely happens. As a CM at a DVC resort (I worked at VWL) I can tell you that if an upgrade is necessary for counts or maintenance issues it will go to a regular guests paying cash before a DVC member on points, simply because of the way the DVC contract is written. If you want to upgrade to a one bedroom and you ask at check in, if it is avalaible, they will most certainly upgrade you for more points. They will call Member Services and have your reservation adjusted and you will be "paying" the points of a one bedroom (so it is not a free upgrade). The only time I have ever upgraded a DVC member is in the case like Deb & Bill mentioned, if you are coming in for 1 night on cash and then moving to a points reservation in a different categorey it is just easier to have you stay in the same room the entire time (sometimes that works out, sometimes not so don't expect that).

Always nice to hear from someone who has actually "been there, done that"! Thanks for sharing your experience with us.

If you don't mind a question, why did you change positions? From another post (over on the Theme Parks Forum), I know you are presently working in the MK.

Did you just burn out on asssigning rooms? Is there a high turnover in that position? Is it more difficult to do DVC assignments or "regular/cash guest" resort assignments?

Thanks in advance and no need to respond if you'd rather not.

Best wishes -

When BWV was undergoing a major renovation a few years ago, there were some posts about upgrades from a studio to a 1 BR because some studios were out of commission. Other than that, there's been extremely rare posts about getting a complimentary upgrade.

libertybell can correct me if I am wrong.

but the CRO system allows several hundred rooms to be booked at the same time - the DVC system kepts better track of the rooms it has availability.

if CRO overbooks a standard room - someone will get upgraded.

DVC system does not allow this to happen - I think?

and the room that CRO books (at the 60th mark) must be on both systems.

so even if CRO at the 60th day mark is booking - the DVC system is still assigning.

does that make sense?
