Upgrade base tickets later?

We have what was originally a resort only trip coming up and have decided to spend a few days in the parks (relaxing sounded good but we can't seem to stay away from the parks!). We are planning to buy two day base tickets now but there's a possibility that we will be able to add more days when the trip is closer. I prefer to buy at least two day tickets now so we can at least make fast pass reservations for the two days we know we will be going. Is it possible to just upgrade from 2 days to 3 (or more) days closer to our trip without it affecting our already reserved fast passes? Thanks for any info!

FP+ will not be affected.

If your tickets are not part of a WDW resort package, you would upgrade after you arrive.

If the tickets ARE part of a WDW resort pkg., you can upgrade before you arrive, but you don't need to do so.
