Upgrade at port?

I was wondering if DCL offers any type of upgrades at the port when you check in at a discounted rate...it looks to me like if they do not have those rooms full they would offer passengers an opportunity to upgrade at a reduced rate...but then again, that may be a big hassle for them...if anyone has ever done that, please advise and let me know what the charge might be for that...thanks

First the logistical plan: Get to the Port as EARLY as they will let you in.

Then, check in, if you need to, (Resort check in is a little more risky for upgrades due to the DCL Bus Scheduling) at the check In desk.

Then RUSH over to the LAST station. I believe it is the Consierge Station, this is where the upgrade can be done. Ask Very Nicely and if they have any available they can accomodate you. They have a chart of available cabins and the price for each to upgrade from your category. It is significantly less than the booking price but is is first come first served.

We got an upgrade from Cat 9 (Ocean View) to Cat 4 Verandah. the additional cost was $477. for both of us. We were in Cruise Heaven. Remember, this was a 7 Day Western Cruise and during the slow season (Around Halloween).

We up graded at check in from cat 9 to cat 6 for $358.00. If we had booked a cat 6, it would have been @$1,000 more. We took a risk and everything worked out.

How hard is it to upgrade adjoining cabins? We have to have adjoining cabins as our 4 kids are young (10,5,4,3).

Upgrading adjoining staterooms might be tough but it will depend on availability, of course.

We saw that "upgrade chart" that was mentioned in a prior post and used it to go from a cat. 4 to a cat 3 at about 20% of the regular upgrade cost. Worth asking!!! And, I would echo the suggestion to get there early. We were the first there so anything that was available was available to us.

Good luck! But, if you don't get an upgrade, remember that sleeping in the hall-way on the Magic/Wonder is better than not being there!
