Updates to MyMagic+ coming soon ***Official April 10, post #102 page 6***

Which is more important to you...an easy 4th, or a 7th that requires s trip to a kiosk?
During our last trip we only got the opportunity to use a 4th twice, and a 5th once (and only in MK, with an early first 3)... let alone a 6th or 7th. So I'll take the easier 4th.

No doubt. And there will be others who come out on the other side of this. That is my point. This change is not going to be universally beneficial or welcomed once it is put into practice despite the early rush to praise the change.

Well you asked what was important to me :teeth:

For the power user that was getting that 8th fast pass... I'm sure they will be disappointed. They probably went through a lot of running shoes in the legacy fast pass system.:car:

The fact that it is not possible today.

Not being snarky or anything just genuinely curious. I always thought it was "Not possible" more as a matter of policy than technology. Are you saying it's a technology issue?

Depending on how fast availability dries up, the trade off might be the ability for someone else to get a 4th FP (or the power users 5th or 6th) on their smart phone for the 4th FP you were able to get from the kiosk. ;) No guarantee that the person who got the FP via the kiosk will be the one getting "easier" anything.

This puts more power in the hands of people who know how to work the system. Not less.

To put it another way: I would rather the opportunity at 0 or 1 extra FP+ from my phone, than having to trek back and forth to a kiosk for a good chance at a 4th. If more widespread use and limited availability mean that I don't get a 4th FP, so be it.

But I think the selections for the 4th, 5th and 6th fast passes will be A LOT slimmer pickings now (especially at the smaller parks) since most everyone will be doing this now (since everyone has been thinking you COULD be doing this and surprised when you couldn't).

We had slim pickings by mid afternoon in 2014 in MK - the park with the most FP+ capacity. This new feature at least saves us the trouble of having to find a kiosk only to find out that there's not much available (since finding a kiosk at all on the trip was difficult enough w/locations not on the map when we were there, and the locations being different than what we'd found online before our trip).

I don't think it will have any impact on advance fastpasses. People who are familiar enough with the app so that they are going to use the phone for a 4th FP+ are already likely using the kiosk (and perhaps checking/switching through the phone). It won't increase my number of fastpasses, but it will make it more easy and convenient to do.

Where it will have a great impact is if they allow you to select your 4th FP+ in a different park than the one you are in so you can get your FP+ before you park hop. If we aren't tethered to a kiosk to select and we are limited to one at a time, hopefully Disney will let you select from any park rather than having to be within the walls of that park for the app to work. That would be great.

We have never used the 4th FP because the kiosks seemed so inconvenient, and every time we went near one, the lines seemed so long. If this is rolled out before our mid-April trip, we will definitely give it a try, but if it turns out not to give us extras, we won't bother. It's not a big deal either way to us. We usually save our FP for later in the day, so I'm guessing there won't be much selection for additional fastpasses for us, and that's okay.

What happens if you have a party of 5 and 3 of them have used their 3 FP+ but the other 2 people decided not to ride something earlier in the day so they have used 2 FP+. Does the old FP+ that wasn't used still show up? Is there a way to cancel it so everyone can book a 4th FP+ together.

Thanks.

You can get a new fast pass after you have used your first three passes, or your last fast pass has expired. Doesn't matter if you used any at all as long as the ending time for your last pass has passed.

I booked our FPs for May 1st last night at Midnight. Got what we wanted but at 12:02 am, the earliest 7DMT was already 12:15 to 1:15. If lots of people start moving their 3 FPs to the morning in hopes of getting afternoon 4th, 5th, etc FPs, it will be interesting to see how quickly morning FPs fill up for everything, not just 7DMT. In and of itself, that strategy should free up afternoon FPs though if enough people are moving to mornings.

It will be interesting to see the new strategy.
I know I've always made all my Fast Passes so they would end around 12:30 - 1:00. .. just SO I could get that 4th fast pass sooner than later (even from the Kiosks). The system (as designed) just asks for that behavior. Sure, my first fast pass of the day was usually "wasted" (didn't really need a Fast pass for Enchanted Tales at 9:30 AM), but I didn't care as it gave me the freedom and flexibility for the rest of the day to schedule that 4th Fast Pass for whenever I wanted later in the afternoon or evening without feeling locked in. This new change won't change my strategy, but will save me a lot of time. I could have my 4th Fast Pass booked before I even get out of the queue for my 3rd FP ride.

I feel bad for the people who make Fast Passes for the night shows and don't have an opportunity to make a 4th fast pass. It doesn't seem quite fair.

I think that once this catches on, with everyone having a smart phone in their pockets, without having the time sink of going to the kiosks and waiting in line, I can see all fast passes in a park gobbled up by mid-day. I can see frustrated guests not able to find a 4th fast pass even for the smallest of rides late in the day.

This puts another premium on being a resort guest. Make those Fast Passes at 60 days out to guarantee you can get those morning Fast Pass times so you are first people done with their 3rd Fast Pass so you are the first who can schedule their 4th Fast pass via their phone.

Knowing that 4th Fast Passes will be more scarce, I also see more and more repeat visitors using the "second MDE" account loophole to get 3 extra per day. Right now on my next trip . .if I make a new MDE account (because I still have old Non-expiration tickets linked to my old MDE account) .. I can schedule 6 fast passes a day at 30 days out (if I bring two sets of Magic Bands per person (linked to two different MDE accounts) without having to worry about 4th fast passes the day of.

It's funny when MDE first came out I would have loved this, but now it doesn't seem like that huge of a thing. We rope drop and ride a lot of "secondary" rides before our first FP at 10, then ride FP at 10, 11, and sometimes 12 - sometimes we don't even need the third. We like to move to Epcot for the afternoon/evening in world showcase which requires no FP! :-)

I booked FPs Mon night for first week of May and saw the same thing with the sisters. I got a 9 am FP in the initial set, picked a later time to allow space to move the FPs around and by the time I got to the modify screen, everything before noon was gone.

I had a harder time getting FPs for May this year than I remember last year during Spring Break. I wonder if it's reduced capacity (cuts) or if it'll really be more busy in May this year than it was March last year. Or my bad memory. :rolleyes1

I'm confused... why pre-book a 'wasted' FP when you can pre-book in advance the FP you want at the time you want? I'd rather pre-book 3 FP that are exactly what I want than 2 I want and 1 I 'waste' plus have a potluck (whatever is left) 4th FP. Not trying to criticize, I'm just trying to understand your strategy. I'm still struggling with my own FP strategy, so I'm looking at all viewpoints.
