The early morning fast pass isn't necessarily "wasted" (it may depend on the crowds and time of the year) . .but from my experience it was.I'm confused... why pre-book a 'wasted' FP when you can pre-book in advance the FP you want at the time you want? I'd rather pre-book 3 FP that are exactly what I want than 2 I want and 1 I 'waste' plus have a potluck (whatever is left) 4th FP. Not trying to criticize, I'm just trying to understand your strategy. I'm still struggling with my own FP strategy, so I'm looking at all viewpoints.
I personally just liked the way it sorta of "forced" a plan for the morning and then the flexibility it gave for the afternoon (especially since I was touring with a toddler). I would rather have a 9:30 AM Fast Pass for Disney Junior Show (that wasn't need (theatre was half full) .. than a 4:30 PM one for Tower of Terror and be "locked" into a plan for the entire day until that point and worry about being available at that time. That being said .. I will deviate from that plan if there is a big ride that is a "must do" . (like Seven Dwarves Mine Train) .. I won't waste a Fast Pass in the morning JUST so I can be done with all them by noon .. but it will definitely be preferred over taking one late in the day.
It is easier for me to plan 3 consecutive Fast Passes .. 9:30 Disney Junior, 10:30 TSMM, 11:30 Star Tours -- 12:15 Lunch .. and then have the ENTIRE afternoon free and flexible to schedule that fourth fast pass as needed.
And it worked for us .. It was just fun and flexible. If I was "locked in" to a 3rd Fast Pass in the afternoon (or evening) on a ride I really wanted to go on .. I would have just felt our afternoon would be interrupted and things before and after would have to be planned AROUND that fast pass time (nope .. can't see Beauty and the Beasty because then we'd miss the Fast Pass Window .. etc. etc. ) ... I just like having that free time to do whatever in the afternoon and evening -- build a lightsaber spend as much time as needed at a dance party, take your time at dinner, etc.
