If I missed anyone or if anyone else wants to play just post on here and I'll add you. The teams were picked randomly and I mixed runners, run/walkers and walkers.

Each member will add their miles to the running total, captains will just have to add their own miles/hours. We will have two running totals, one for miles and one for hours.

The hours total is for total hours exercised in a day. So if you walk 3 miles in an hour and took a hour yoga class you would and 3 miles to the miles total and 2 hours to the hours total. If a team choses to not compete in the hours competition that's fine but there will be prizes at the end of the year for the team that has the most miles and the team whose members exercised the most hours.

If you have a day that you did aerobics, and a dance tape for 3 hours but did no miles you would only add 3 hours to the hours total and nothing to the miles. A walker who does 20 miles in 6 hours would add 20 to miles and 6 to hours. A runner who did 20 miles in 3 hours would add 20 to miles and 3 to hours.

This is an exercise for fun and motivation so, no name calling, no poking, no elbowing and especially no mooning. However a little good natured "Trash talking" is encouraged. I imagine that Mr Bill can sling some bull droppings.

On Feb 1st the Team Captains will start the thread for their team to log on for the year. Captains please ask your team to give you name suggestions.

The game will run till Dec 31st and prizes will be given out at the Pop Party.

Let the games begin

Is it too late to add myself to a team? If it is I can wait until next time. I'm a walker/runner moving up to just a runner soon I hope :)

oops...Pop Party? Does that mean I 'm supposed to be signed up for the WDW marathon? cuz I'm not and was going to skip 2009.

Groovy Girls are me (Mom) and my two darlings but its really just me. Gang of Groovy Girls is our geocaching name and I've stuck with it. Even though the name is plural its just me but the gang is with me in spirit!

I think Windwalker said on the other thread that prizes would be mailed to anyone who won't be able to make it to POP.

Regarding miles...are we only adding up running/jogging/walking totals for that category?

Example...I bike 20 miles in an hour...that would only count for 1 hour (the 20 miles would not count)...is this true?

thanks for the clarification :goodvibes:

Scott, I was under the impression that the 20 miles would also count. If we did yoga or pilates or something like that, only the time would count. That's what I thought anyway. I hope so because it is a great incentive to cross train.

Also, waiting for clarification........

Yes you would count 20 miles and you would log one hour. If it was an aerobics class where you couldn't measure miles you would just log the hour. This is an incentive for people to NOT neglect the cross training because it doesn't have miles.

Kind of seems lopsided though for the people with cyclists on their team.

Furthermore, if you do the elliptical for 30 minutes and it says you covered 4.4 miles, does that count as miles too?

cycling vs. swimming vs. running vs. walking vs. fitness equipment as it relates to miles covered seems kind of skewed to me.

Not trying to be a pain, I promise!!

OK! If it isn't too late...can I join? If so, how do you choose the team I am on? So we count hours and miles...good, b/c I dance...alot!

I think this is a valid concern...maybe we could log "non-running/walking" miles in a separate tally? Or just count hours? 20 miles on the bike is nothing like 20 miles running/walking. (and I'm one of those who will be putting in plenty of time on the bike)

Maybe there should be different catagories of tracking. Walking and running could be in one, biking in another, misc exercise for time only in another. At the end there could be winners in each catagory and then an overall winner logging all time, not distance, since time is the only common factor in all of the catagories.

Or maybe each category can be formulated to equal each other category...example, 3 biking miles = 1 running mile....

just a thought...

Well, I'm not a math major... :rolleyes1

but I do tell my kids fair doesnt mean equal...

I think the system Mighty Panda has put in place looks like its worth a shot to try it for a month or so, it may need tweaking, it may not :confused3 I'm willing to give it a go - I esp like that even tho I work an hour, I dont go very far, and I wont be a burden to my team...

and I think that the biking will be an incentive for me to cross train - I may just have to bike dd to school when it gets warm, and maybe bike for pleasure in the summer?!! I mean, I dont want to let my team down now do I??
