hi all! wanted to let people know about a DVC sponsored event at the Bronx Zoo going on this summer. i just saw it online and got really excited! http://bronxzoo.com/plan-your-trip/events-calendar/zoofari.aspx

it's running pretty much all weekends this summer and the best part is that safari mickey is going to be there! i plan on getting my disney fix without even having to leave my borough!!

i wonder if we'll be able to skip the line if DH wears his member hat? :lmao:

Thanks for letting me know. I might take a ride in and get a nice photo.

Thanks again for the information!!!

It is curious that DVC would be a sponsor of this event; I mean the only real connection might be AKV, right? Then I remembered a couple threads:

This seems to be another example of DVC attempting to sell the "outside the berm" aspects of DVC, which we know is not a great use of the points. Also, maybe it is a lead in for "other" DVC resorts yet to be built (I don't know if they would be able to sell Aulani to New Yorkers). Curious...

ETA: I wonder if DVC's marketing budget will be used to promote ABD or DCL products, too.

No flames please, this is just my personal opinion but.....seriously?? What the heck are they doing? Lets hope Jim Lewis' new boss thinks these "events" are as ridiculous as many of us do. Are potential DVC owners really hanging out at the Bronx Zoo in the summer, on the weekend? As a former New Yorker you couldn't pay me to haul it up there on my day off, in the summer heat.

not flaming but i do want to add that there are tons of people who go to the bronx zoo on the weekends during the summer. it's the best thing to do with kids, even if just for a couple hours. we get there as soon as it opens and stay there until lunch/nap time.

lots of people in my neighborhood do the same!

i'm looking forward to the event. i'll try to take some pictures :) i think it's a nice idea for disney to do something. the zoo gets SO many tourists from all over the place that they could really get in front of ALOT of people.

plus, they could maybe get people interested in going to the doorway to dreams at the roosevelt field mall which isn't too far away.

anyway, i'm looking forward to seeing mickey

I live on Long Island and there is a Doorway to Dreams store here, maybe they are trying to sell out of it and using this as a marketing thing? That you can buy in NY and not have to go to FL, I mean.

OMG THAT WAS THE LAMEST THING I"VE EVER BEEN TO!!!!

they had cute safari-like setup with a jeep from indiana jones. it was held by the doorway to dreams folks.

i went up to one of the CM's and asked when Mickey was coming out so we could get a picture with him. She pointed and said, "there he is!"

OMG!!! a cardboard cutout that you couldn't even get up to to get a picture because he was ROPED OFF!!!!!

LAME!!!!!! what a big waste of time. well, not really b/c we go to the zoo most weekends anyway but still. we were really looking forward to seeing mickey!!! the online description even says something like, "special appearance by safari mickey!"

Wow i guess i dont need to make a special trip. Thats really dissapointing and misleading to say the least.

Wow! I would write to them and suggest they update their material to not be so misleading! I would be so disappointed if I suggested someone go there and found that!

I clicked on the Bronx Zoo Link and this is what I read:

Disney Vacation Club® Adventure Zone

Doesn't seem misleading to me. It doesn't say anything about Mickey being there. I actually took my family this past Tuesday and had a very pleasant experience.

This actually looks very cool! Any time Disney can bring a little bit of Magic to NYC is a good thing. Pretty smart too, if you ask me. Bronx Zoo is packed on the weekends with people from all over the place. I'd much rather bring my kids to this than have them take a picture with one of the many fake, stinky, dirty, "Mickey's" that are littered around Times Square! (Hint to DVC: Do something in Times Square!)

I've been to the DD2D store in Roosevelt Field and the CMs there are all super-nice, always giving out stickers and being very friendly to my kids. In fact, every time we go to the mall, all my kids want to do is "visit Mickey!" If they are the ones doing these events at the zoo, I'm sure it's going to be great. Might have to head up to the Bronx soon. (In all of my Mets gear, of course! - LOL)

I got an invite to a special DVC event being held in NYC either overnight July 22nd or July 23rd. Hotel in the city for 2, dinner, breakfast, tickets to Mary Poppins at a very reasonable price for a couple.

I'm out of town that weekend (actually at WDW!) but if anyone is interested, I can forward you the email I got so you can contact the person running the event to see if you can attend.

It was a very attractive price...too bad we can't do it. I'd love an overnight in NYC, dinner, show and breakfast.

So regardless of what some may say in the previous posts, I actually was extremely impressed with DVC's setup in the zoo. We went to the zoo Saturday and met some really great cast members who were eager to talk about anything Disney related, including the Jeep which they informed us had been used as a prop in one of the Indiana Jones movies. From what I overheard there are some really great deals going on in the DVC world. They had a table set up with masks and coloring pages for the kids. It was nice to take a break from the heat and relax in a location that made you feel like you were in Disney. They even had special gifts for members. As a Disney enthusiast, I thought it was neat that even though we were in the Bronx, we could feel the magic of WDW.

We were at the Bronx Zoo July 2nd. I didn'tknow that DVC was one of the sponsers of the summer till we got there. My girls had fun building with legos, and then since we are members they gave the girls binoculars which they used throught the zoo.

I was excited to read your first post, as we only live about an hour away from the Bronx Zoo. Then I saw CardBoard Mickey... and my first thought was ... but now I am :rotfl2:!!! Really?!?! And he was ROPED OFF?!?! Thanks for the popcorn::
