UPDATED: IT'S HAPPENING!! Star Wars, Toy Story officially coming to DHS! Plus new Soarin'!

After years of complaining about NFL, Avatarland and the fact that DHS had "nothing" to interest anybody anymore, all of this news guarantees at least one thing:

We will have some new things to moan, grown and complain about :)
This is the inevitable outcome when people expect boundless joy and innovation from a for-profit company. Blue sky thinking does not walk hand-in-hand with quarterly profit statements.

As big as this announcement is, I'm not sure their done yet. If you look at what's already closed and add in Little Mermaid, One Man's Dream and Lights Motors action to the already closed back lot tour and Animation. you get this area

The area highlighted comes up to almost 32 acres. They announced 25 acres (14 Star Wars, 11 Toy Story). Carsland at DCA is about 7 acres. The land appears to be there for 1 more "surprise" announcement down the road. To me, Toy Story looks like a Stage 1 to get out "quickly." You have a spinner and a kiddie coaster. Star Wars would open up later for stage 2. Finally, a yet to be announced stage 3 even further down the road.

From the pre-D23 rumors and what they said about the Launch Bay today, it sounds like that's what is going in Animation building area.

The coaster looks like it has two lifts, and is quite long. Hard to tell from the tiny version of the art that they released. I mean, aren't we past the days of a 300x500 photo being considered even remotely useful?

Carsland is 11 acres I believe. I would be shocked if there is a third land. This is finally fixing The Studios, even though this is still many years away. Now when are they going to announce the 2 E-tickets and D-ticket the Magic Kingdom so desperately needs to absorb the crowds?

So...any word of Marvel yet. None? Not even for DL? Hmm Me thinks we are just get teasers, but anything is better than endless speculation...

Oh come now, we won't see any MK expansions or new attractions for a while. We just got New Fantasyland! ETA: And somewhere new to eat! (admittedly, Skippers Canteen actually sounds like some really great, old school Imagineering.) Wish that wasn't the way it goes, but that will be the way it goes.

I REALLY wanted to hear that they would do some EPCOT work, that's what I'm hoping for in the next couple of years. Reopen some of those closed pavilions and breathe some life into the place with some new, relevant, exciting attractions. Future World is really underdeveloped at the moment--return of Captain EO isn't fooling anyone.

The main thing they should've done @ HS is NOT close so many attractions without new ones already in place, that just results in a net loss of attractions and longer lines at the ones still there

Yeah, HS is going to be terrible for sometime to come. But come on, honestly, I was there last December... it was already pretty terrible. With the FP+ tiering in place (which actually hasn't bothered me terribly at EPCOT, and I like FP+ generally) there was no way you could do all the headliners (ToT, Star Tours, RnR, and TSM) without having to wait in a ridiculous line. And aside from those things... there wasn't much else to do except look at the pretty Osborne Lights. (well, except the Muppets movie and the Movie Ride, I guess. The other shows are a pain to plan around and take up a ton of space.) I don't know. I'm just glad to know it's going to get better.

I know I'm probably in a significant minority here, but I am disappointed to see the expansion of Star Wars. To me, I just do not associate this with Disney, and I think there are so many other Disney/Pixar opportunities that could be realized instead. I'm pleased to hear that along this line, Toy Story will play a prominent role in the expansion. I understand Star Wars is/ is going to be a huge profit center for Disney drawing new people in to the parks, but it just feels so distant from Disney's roots... I feel the same way about the Avatar expansion in AK.

Im confused as to why the star wars expansion is to be based on an unknown fictional planet rather than tapping the many well known cannon locations alreadt established?

To the people saying that they were disappointed to hear that only Toy Story is part of the Pixar expansion, I could have sworn that I read that Toy story was the first part of a Pixar expansion at DHS. This might not be accurate, but it would make sense that more Pixar would be added down the road.

Either way, definitely excited about all of the announcements. Absolutely a great day to be a Disney fan!!:woohoo:

To drive upcoming movie sales.
This can't be the reason because it is likely that all three of the next Star Wars movies will have been released by the time the new land debuts.

If you can dig up a source for this, I'd be thrilled.

I can't wait for all of it! My kids loved to stay at All Star movies in the toy story area when they were small so I am picturing this as an even bigger scale. And we LOVE Star Wars so an entire area instead of just the SWW...Fantastic!

I am going to go crazy waiting for all of this to happen. I would feel better if we just got some tentative dates.
