Wait, what? We do use DGC at WDW and DL however I didn't need to buy any as I had a stack of them for our two (two week) trips we didn't get to take due to Covid. This last trip we took in the spring at Ft. Wilderness, I didn't need to buy any DGC. I still have a few hundred left. I don't know when we'll be back. Currently our plan is to go to TDR in 2026 for (hopefully) three weeks.

If you're going to be up anyway at 6:45 or 7am, it was a plus but for us we don't get up early while on vacation. We really, really enjoy staying out very late and sleeping in.
If you have Disney+, I’m pretty sure they now allow regular GCs to be used for a subscription payment. We have timeshare points so we have to pay the mouse every year. Don’t think we’ll be going next year because we blew through all of this year’s and most of next year’s points on the trip this year.

I’m toying with a Japan trip next year, but we actually would not go to TDR at all. We’d start in Tokyo, visit the major things and do some day trips from there, then head to Hakone for a night in an onsen, then on to Kyoto, then to Osaka with day trips to Nara and maybe Kobe.
Of course it depends on what my husband gets for a bonus this fall, lol.

Thanks--I bought only $100 on one of my cards but I'll buy one of each for my next purchase. I went through RMN so hopefully it tracks! I'll have to read the fine print but I'm guessing it's only one purchase so I messed that first one up. Oh well :(

I appreciate your feedback.

Now go back to Staples .com, purchase a $50 DGC with that same credit card. Be sure to use cb portal. The Chase offer is not a one time use. You can use the one offer on the same cc repeatedly until a $17 cb max is reached.

We don't pay for Disney+, it's part of Verizon.

This won't be our first trip to Japan. DH and I have been quite a few times before our son was born. My late mother was born in Japan. In 2015 we took DS, for three weeks. Half our trip we stayed in Yokohama, touring all over. The last leg we stayed at TDR. It was a fun trip and DS can't wait to go back.

Oh, speaking of Target, DoC posted:
  • Note: some Targets code as Grocery with Visa/MC.

What cards are those? :teacher: School me please!

Alrighty folks it's dinner time, hope to see ya tomorrow! :smickey:

This is a really big itinerary for Japan. Even though things are close together, the travel can take a while! I wouldn’t attempt this in under two weeks; ideally three. Hakone is gorgeous (make sure you can cover up any tattoos if you have any; otherwise you can’t go in the onsen). I highly recommend stopping in Hiroshima and seeing the Peace Memorial Museum as well. It is sobering. Kurashiki is also a gorgeous and underrated stop.

I went a few times in my 20’s but my husband and the kids have never been. I don’t think my husband knows what he’s in for because the kids and I are definitely going to geek out in Akihabara and we’re also going to an anime themed cafe .

So it looks like the summer $299, 3 days tickets for Disneyland don't qualify for the offer $20 Target GC offer. So I'm better off buying through Disney and using DGCs
If you haven’t bought them already, the tickets are also available on the TripAdvisor app for 12% off using the Retailmenot promo code RMNAPP12 mentioned in the post below.

I used the code the other day for 2-day tickets in October and it worked great. The app will ask for your dates but you can use any date, doesn’t need to be the exact dates you’re going. You will receive an email with a link to the tickets. You can then scan the code to link them to the Disneyland app.

Thank you @Liquidice for sharing this!

I read that you can apply tips to the DGC. I'm planning to use gift cards for most of our meals. Does anyone have any experience with this? Will it track quickly on the card or take a while to clear? Will it show up right away when I check the DisneyGiftCard Website or would I need to track closely myself? Thanks for any insight.

I think it tracked quickly if I recall, though sometimes waiters had to borrow my phone for payments with my e-gift cards, which was a bit odd.

I add all my cards I purchase to a Disney e-gift card, of which I have four (all with different pictures, which helps me keep track of them). I fill them up in advance and we move through the cards in succession as they drain for things like DVC dues, eating out, etc. I update the balance of each in my notes app on my phone when adding new cards or subtracting payments, so I always know what is on each card.

While many Peeps are buying discounted DGC for their next trip, we are not. I wish there was a way we could use them at Tokyo Disney Resort, heck let's add all Disney theme parks. I feel like I'm missing out as I haven't purchased any DGC in a long long time.

I am glad to see changes to Genie+ as that's something we've never purchased since it launched. Getting up at 6:45am to book a ride ~ while on vacation?! No thanks! In the future and on a work week, DH can book free at will! Pow, pow! Happy dance!

I'll have to figure a way to save on our TDR trip 2026, any ideas?
Yep, new credit card Check! Anything else?

Not a lot of saving tips I've found for TDR. We're planning on going in October of this year and I already have booked our TDR vacation package. Just know that at least right now there is a ton of competition for booking both Tokyo Disney hotels and the Vacation Packages (which includes the hotel, park tickets and depending on the package some included "fastpasses" and possibly dining reservations). The VPs go live right now at 3pm Japan time, which is 2am Eastern - I've had to wake up 3 times now at 2am to book vacation packages and then it took me hours to finally book it because their systems get so overwhelmed that it takes forever and sometimes it errors out and you have to start all over, it was not fun. Just plan for some of this and do a lot of research if you are going to buy a vacation package or want to stay in a Disney hotel. If you want to stay in the Sheraton or a 3rd party hotel on the Monorail loop or a hotel further out - then you don't need to worry about any of this :)

I do it all the time. I use a physical gift card, which the server will use just like a credit card and give me a slip to sign. I add the tip, making a note of the tip amount on the receipt that I keep, because it shows what is left on the card before tip. So the meal charge is deducted right away but I don't know how long it takes for the tip, I do not bother to check the website right away, I just keep track of the amount.

That sucks! We're going mid November for 2 weeks. Not doing the VP but I do want to try for 4 nights at the Miracosta which will be challenging. Window for booking hasn't open so I'm trying to read up on all the tricks and do some trials. I might have to settle for the Disneyland Hotel, though. On the bright side, we snagged Biz class seats each way on JAL with AA miles plus a small charge for taxes.

Has anyone had experirence buying a Sam's club gift card at Walmart? Walmart is a 5% category for my Discover card this quarter.
Ideally I'd use the Sam's card on Sam's services to get a MNSSHP ticket. I've read all the terms and can't find any saying this *won't* work, but also several reviews reagarding inactive Sam's GC's from Walmart.
AFAIK Walmart and Sam's GC are interchangeable. On the back of every card I have from either it lists Sam's , Sam's.com, WM, WM .com as eligible. I just used a bunch of Sam's club issued GC and eGC at Walmart. I've used Walmart GC and eGC in the past. If I look on walmart .com for both GC they both state
  • Gift Cards may be redeemed at Walmart stores, Walmart.com, Sam's Club, and Samsclub.com by SAM's Club members.
So going into a Walmart and buying whatever they have on the shelf should avoid any activation issues.

Where I'm more concerned is if you can use a GC to pay through Sam's Club for the tickets. Have you started a checkout and it gave the option? I see the tickets through the Travel & Entertainment service which the FAQ for that states no GC. And going through a dummy booking is only giving me credit/debit options.

https://serviceshub.samsclub.com/pages.php?sub=tawfaq

What are my payment options?

We accept all major credit cards including Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express. We do accept Sam's Club Mastercard.

We currently are not able to accept gift cards and other private label cards including Sam's Club PLCC. We also do not accept Travelers Cheques or Personal Checks. All payments are in USD.

(emphasis is mine)

Is there somewhere else to buy the ticket at Sam's Club that lets you use a GC?

So you are saying that you can pay off the redcard credit card at Customer Service with a Credit Card or a prepaid gift card? So basically you are getting 9.75% off every Disney gift card you buy, if you use the prepaid gift cards you get at Staples fee free with a chase Ink card?
Unless it's changed recently, it must be a debit card. If you try to run it as credit it gets declined (or at least it has for me). So either bank debit or prepaid debit, and enter the PIN when prompted.

I spent most of my day at Target yesterday. Bought DGC for both mine and my husbands circle bonuses (10 back on 90 and 15 back on 130), then proceeded to shop some back to school supply deals and household items deals. Ended up earning an additional 30 bucks back in gift cards and 30 bucks back cash from Ibotta.

Also my daily Buschs run for the 10 off a 50 dollar gift card.

This was my first time utilizing Ibotta and WOW.

Are you staying on property? If you are, I usually just charge back to the room and then go down to the front desk to pay down my room balance very couple of days. The only time I hand over a gift card is at the end of my vacation and I do tip on the GC then. I just make sure there is just enough to cover the bill and tip since I don't like to hand over a GC that has $$$ on it. I don't believe it clears right away but doesn't take more than a day. It shows up when I check the next day on the DGC website.
