*UPDATED* DISDivas & Family October Mini Meet *UPDATED* (3.0 Version!)

Hey, I just noticed. Theresa and I are the two Queens. What is a Billabong anyhow??

Okay, I just checked the weather for my Oct 8th trip and it shows 69-72 as highs and lows of 59. To me, that is absolutely perfect:thumbsup2

We are supposed to be making that trip with my girlfriend and her son, and me and my son. Her husband just called and told me he wants to show up and surprise his wife and son, oh, and bring the 3 year old girl. :confused3 I do not know how that is going to turn out. I did tell him that he could not surprise her, he must talk to her about it immedietly. Sheesh!

The only Billabong I know of is the brand of surf clothes here in So Cal. And I do think about that sometimes when I see Theresa's log on!
So please, do tell the meaning of your name.;)

And Tracey, I agree, he can't just "show up". What are men thinking sometimes?:confused3 Have a magical - perfect weather - trip!:goodvibes

Well since no one else has decided on a time to meet.....I am going to say between 6 and 6:30 then. How does that sound?

Linda, that's funny and Jesse LOVES Billabong clothes ;) It's actually not from that though - it really has no "meaning" (except a billabong is an Australian word for a little collection of water by a river) - but it is a name that a patient in a clinic I worked in helped come up with when I needed a unique name, rather than whatever1234. And it has been unique!

BTW - I think 6:00-6:30 is too early. The gates don't open for the party until 7:30 p.m. and there is no entertainment that you miss by not being in line. We plan on having dinner at about 6:00 p.m. so we don't have to eat during the party. If we're taking a pic outside the gates, it will be REALLY crowded at that time until after the gates open.

What time do you suggest then? 7ish? Later? I am open to whatever time. Just want to get it down on the schedule.

Where you guys having dinner?

I do this party every year and Im always in line about an hour before because it does get crowded for sure...now if you dont have a specific location that you want to get at then nah its no problem but because I hate waiting forever to get my pic with my mouse, I head over there straight away so Im one of the first people to get it done and then I can just do whatever I want the rest of the night.....guess it just depends on your game plan:confused3

I'd say 7ish..... I just hate standing around there with nothing to do ;) I guess if you get your picture taken with the characters, then being closer in line means more (I have a teenage boy who would rather gnaw off his own arm than stand in line for a pic with any of the characters!). He's in it for the rides and candy, and I'm just along for the ride and to spend time with him, so it's no big deal. We dont want to be wasting time in line, rather than enjoying dinner before the partay!

We're going to Cafe Orleans so Jesse can get his Monte Cristo! It's such a short trip that that's about the only time we can fit it in

Well, ok then, Queenbillabong it is! Different and fits you, Theresa.:thumbsup2 Very cool.

I don't want to wait in line to get in either. I vote for later, even 7:15 pm. But whatever the group decides. We will have 4 hours for rides, candy and characters.:cool1: I think we are eating at WWS at 6:30-ish.

I know that I have been AWOL lately, but sorority recruitment is over and I think that I have finally talked to the last upset parent. And, the fraternity that has been taking up a lot of my time due to a disciplinary issue is now cooperating, so I'm back! Anyhow, I was thinking 7-7:15ish as well. We will likely hit Mimi's for dinner that night so that we can eat and then go back to our room to change before the party. Ty isn't exactly the neatest eater on the planet these days, so I would much rather feed him when he is not wearing a $40 halloween costume.

Are we planning to meet up with our families or individually? My family won't be down until 6:30 or 7pm.

Aww--we've missed you but understand. So--seriously--parents actually come and complain? When I rushed (and later was in a sorority and even later an advisory board member at a different campus) we never had parents come and complain--there might be some upset girls crying in the office who didn't get bids from their favorite sorority (or worse--no sorority at all) but I never saw parents get involved. I guess it's just indicative of our times where parents are getting over-involved in their children's trials and tribulations instead of letting the kids work out the issues themselves and/or experience disappointment and learn no, life is not fair sometimes.

Cristabel--I just planned to attach myself to a group having dinner (whatever sounds good) --whether they like it or not!

Right on Cheryl!! By college they had better start learning this, cuz real life in the "job" world, is not going to give them any breaks!

Sounds good to me!

Linda talked about WWS for dinner. That is close, convenient and good.:thumbsup2

I think that we are going to WWS for dinner on Friday also.

Sunday we are going to Goofy's Kitchen.

I have bad news. I won't be able to go on this trip any longer. While I was just joining for 1 day, I was still looking forward to it. I will be travelling for work over this weekend so can't attend. But it is for a good work thing I volunteered for. Hope you all still have a good time. Looking forward to TR & reviews on the Tour.

You can't even begin to comprehend how involved parents are now. I even had a couple of girls bring their moms and grandmas to the Orientation session. I heard from parents of girls who didn't get bids at all and I heard from parents whose daughters got their second choice organization. I even had a mom call because her daughter changed her mind about her ranking after she had already turned it in (which is a big no no).

However, my all time favorite parent story is from about 5 years ago when I worked at Penn State. Many of our students there were quite affluent and both they and their parents thought that money could solve anything. This was particularly reiterated to me when a dad (upon learning that his daughter would not be allowed to join a different sorority for one year if she declined her bid) offered to pay dues to the sorority that she was originally matched to for a full year and to pay me as well if I would allow her to switch chapters. Needless to say, I declined his offer. Ironically his daughter ended up staying in the group that she thought she didn't want to be in and 2 years later was the recruitment chair for her sorority!

Sorry to hear that Kerry! I hope you'll still be able to make it in the spring!

I'm just afraid there is going to be a glut of people going to WWS on Friday before the party and it's going to be jammed . . . . .
