*Updated* Anyone know any good ways to induce labor?

My boss is extremely pregnant and wants to try a home remedy to try to start labor. She is 6 cm dialated and has been having contractions but nothing regular. She is ready to go though! Any home remedies she could try?

I think you mean induce LABOR, not pregnancy

It never worked for me but I have heard that you can induce labor the same way you induce pregnancy

some people recommend drinking Raspberry leaf tea.

Is she past her due date?

There others that I would not recommend. Certain herbs can end up being very dangerous if you don't know exactly what you are doing.

Many old wives tales including sex, caster oil, a large meal,

the only one that worked for my DW was walking.

Castor oil...but you have to be careful and only take like a teaspoon or so. And it can make you have a major case of the squats. BUT if you're willing to risk diarrhea...I'd say go for it.

There are teas you can get, spicey food, nipple stimulation and sex are all suppose to induce labor.

Whne I was pregnant with my first, they had a baby pool going, everyone chipped in $15. SO, I got all of these things from coworkers hoping they would win

None of them worked, but they have been known too. It is worth a shot.


Edited to add - only the food and teas from coworkers And they did take me to the gym to walk on the treadmill everyday for lunch.

Unless she is home birthing--she should possibly seek a little bit of pitocin or have her waters broken and have this baby. She's only got 4 to go, and if she wasn't planning a home birth, she might get one anyway.


Have reflexology on her feet--there is a pressure point that can help.

what worked for me was a place in chicago called Lindy chili when I had there chili I was delivering by the next day. Go on google you may find lots of ways.

She is 4 weeks early, but she is huge. That is the reason the doctors aren't ready to induce her yet. She has been 3 cm for 2 weeks and just jumped to 6 cm this last weekend. She had a few contractions last night, but nothing since about 10 p.m.

This is her 4th kid, so we all kind of know the drill. However, she has never had true natural, labor for any of her kids so she doesn't know what to expect (2 were C's, one was induced). For our sanity at work, we hope she has him soon!

If she is 6 cms dialated, I am surprised the doctors don't have her in the hospital! I went from 3 cms to 10cms in 10 minutes with my second one!

I never even made it to 6 cm. Had a c-section. I am surprised that if she has had 2 c-section and she is large that the doctor is reccomending a ******l delivery. If she is still 4 weeks from her due date, she should not be trying to go into labor, yet. She should wait at least another week.

I have heard about these things, though.

Walking
Semen softens the cervix
Any stimulation like to the nipples

Breast stimulation releases the natural version of Pitocin and is very effective. This is often recommended by midwives.

Maybe the hospital won't take her until she's in active labor with constant contractions?

I know that was the policy with the hosp where I delivered DS. Either you came in to get induced (as I did) or you came in when you were at least 4-5 cm dialated and having contrax less than 5 in apart. If you were dialated but not having regular contrax, they would send you home until the contrax got regular.

I told my husband that if I ever had another baby I was going to have "NO PITOCIN" tatooed to my forehead before I went into the the delivery room! YUCK!!!! It really made the experience worse than it needed to be!!!

Are you really sure she is 6cm? I went into the hospital in active labor at 4cm. I could not be admitted until I was at 4cm and with contractions at most 3 minutes apart.

But prior to going to the hospital on a Sunday I had the most effective procedure to induce labor performed by my ObGyn - I had my mebranes stirred on the Friday prior. She would have to have her doctor do this. I then spent the next few days walking stairs to try and keep my contractions coming. I was a lazy laborer it turned out and needed a lot of help keeping contractions going through all of my labor.

It is not advisable to have her try to go into labor a month premature. This is pretty stupid to try and have a premature baby.
