My daughter, Kimmi, has a friend, Chris. Chris has worked at the daycare with Kimmi for three years. He's 19. He used to live here with his sister, before that with his grandma in Texas. His mom lives in SLC (he is not welcome with her, she "has no time to deal with a teenager") and his grandma could not afford him to stay with her. His dad is in prison. Chris was asked to move out of his sister's house six months or so ago because she was having another baby (that will be two) and didn't want a teenager around "stressing out the boys". Chris moved into an apartment with two other friends from work. He is attending the alternative high school and will graduate in December. He plans to go to the Marines in the fall. He's a good kid, smart, goes to church with us, kind, loves kids; just an all around good kid in a bad situation.
A few months ago, his roomate was convicted of a felony for stealing from a friends bank account (he stole his account number), and was fired from the daycare. This felon friend was gone last weekend, and the other roommate broke the deadbolt on his door to see if he'd stolen anything else. Chris saw some items that belonged to him when he walked by, so went in, searched (and found) his things (i.e. clothing, cd's, books, a snowboard (the friend said it was stolen from his car), etc.). Chris took his things, called our house to tell us what happened, and then proceeded to move out. This was at midnight on Sunday night, the felon friend was due back Monday. Chris has a new job in Keystone as a cook, it starts on Dec. 1. He was going to stay with us till he left.
Yesterday, Chris was arrested and charged with second degree burglary and theft. The felon friend said Chris entered his room and took his stuff. When questioned by the officer, Chris admitted to entering and taking his own stuff, including some cd's. The officer said the felon friend said they were his cd's. Chris said they weren't, but would give them to him if he wanted. The officer took this as an admission of guilt and arrested him. Neither of the other boys were arrested because they lied. Chris told the truth, thereby confessing to the incident, and he was arrested. I bailed him out at 10:30 last night.
He is confused and scared. He has no idea what will happen. The second degree burglary is a felon if he's convicted, and then he will be unable to enlist (his lifelong goal). His bosses at the daycare are right behind, and Stephen and I are. This could go on for a long time, and he has no where to live. We have room, but he and Kimmi are very close, possibly boyfriend/girlfriend close, and I am uncomfortable with him living there, indefinately, as long as there are feelings between them. Too much could happen.
Please pray that he will be exonerated of this so-called crime, and be able to go on with his life. He has never been in trouble, despite his parents lack of interest in him, not even a speeding ticket. Thanks for listening and praying.
