I traded 270 points for Marriott Ocean Pointe resort - got evacuated on Thursday. They were closing the pools on Wednesday and we had to spend Wednesday packing and making plans to evacuate. We essentially lose Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday morning at the resort. Opinions, please??? Do you think I should get some of the points back? From DVC or from Marriott???

I'm happy to report that DVC pro-rated and credited me with points for the nights that we were unable to vacation - I was very happy that they were able to "do the right thing" as we really did lose our vacation.

It appears that RCI's policy on exchange vacations is "tough luck!" unless you purchased vacation insurance in advance. I'm thinking that II's policy is likely similar.

It will be interesting to see what you learn regarding Disney's actions. Please be sure to post what you find out if/when you phone Member Services??

I think it will only be up to II, not DVC, did you take out the travel insurance, that may cover some of the loss. I would contact II, since you traded out of DVC, I would assume they have no obligation. But I could be wrong.

Contact MS. They are the ones who made the reservation and vouched for the quality of the exchange by limiting the II choices available.

I expect that DVC will make some sort of adjustment for you - just as would have happened if you had been evacuated from a DVC resort (points would have been returned to your account for the days unused in that stay).

Call DVC and give them a chance to do the right thing. You would have no influence contacting II- you are not an II member and all arrangements were made thru DVC.

Good luck!

Doc - guess I don't understand how it works, so as a dVC member, you are not a member of II? If I understand it now, they just allow select resorts to be traded for DVC, and when you deposit your time to II, MS still handles the transaction. I never knew that, I had another timeshrae that was II affiliated, and I just figured when and if I wanted to bank into II, you call DVC, set up the week, then call II and deposit it. Sounds like I'm wrong!!

I would certainly talk to DVC exchange department and ask them to intercede with II. The state rules for II also say tough luck. I'd guess the best you will get is your exchange fee and another "deposit" to use likely within a year. I suspect DVC has no way to give back points as they have already given the points to II in the form of a weeks deposit. Technically the way the rules read, if the resort were destroyed prior to your arrival, II would not have any liability but they are usually somewhat accommodating, up to a point. You did have the ability to buy insurance though I doubt it covers part of a week after checkin anyway.

DVC holds the "membership" with II. II will have no record of individual DVC members. All transactions must be handled thru DVC- you can't call II to make an exchange or deposit a week.

Dean is correct about the way II normally handles such issues, but several have reported that DVC was generous in assisting with any shortcomings with II exchanges made thru MS. It sure can't hurt to see what, if anything, MS will do in this situation.

We were handed a resort evacuation notice on Wed (9/2) while staying at a resort in Pompano Beach, FL. Our stay was booked through RCI as a Bonus Week against a non-DVC property.

I phoned RCI to gently inquire about possibly restoring our Bonus Week for a later use. RCI referred me back to my home resort. A quick and friendly conversation with my home resort yielded a fresh, new Bonus Week for use through 9/05.

Customer service done right! (And with much kindess!)

Congratrs and enjoy the extra week just enjoy it in a month other than Sept.

Thanks for the update! That's exactly what should have happened. Glad you had a positive outcome!! :)

Congratulations. It is just great how accomodating Disney has been to take care of those of us who had reservations changed or canceled due to the terrible weather. It really says something about the company and makes me an even more loyal customer.

Thanks for the update...I'm truly impressed by Disney/DVC and what they will do for their customers/owners.
