Somehow the back door didn't close all the way. I don't know when she got out. The last I saw her was about midnight. I found the open door around 10am this morning.

She's been my buddy and friend for over 16 years. She's now 20, no claws and partially deaf. I have these awful fears that she was attacked and killed by a wild animal or that she succumbed to the bitter winter cold. I can only hope that someone found her this morning. We made flyers and searched the woods and neighborhood several times. We'll keep looking.

One of my greatest fears is that my strictly indoors elderly cats will somehow be let out. I'm so sorry that this has happened to you and your kitty. I hope that she returns home soon.

I'm sorry she got out. Good thoughts going out to you for her safe return.

When indoor cats get out, they often are scared, and therefore find a spot in which they feel somewhat safe and stay put! The spot is usually not too far from home. Search everywhere, but mostly close to your home, in little nooks and crannies where she might fit. I bet she has hunkered down somewhere.

 I hope you find her!

I am so sorry she got out. I'm really hoping for her safe return. We lost my grandma's cat once, but she was a stray. We were planning on taking her to the vet, getting her vaccinated and make sure she was spayed, then letting her out again. That morning, I put her on a leash and dropped the leash. She ran and I was so scared. I couldn't find her, even after searching the neighborhood for a couple hours. I went over to the woods and looked, but couldn't find her. So I went back, had my grandma come with me back to the woods and I found a little path so I could walk into the woods a bit. I called her name and shook a container of food and then I heard some rustling in the leaves. I looked and sure enough, it was her. She was doing backflips in the air trying to get loose. I picked her up while my grandma came down and untangled the leash. It was wrapped around all thes pipes and stuff. My grandma had a hard time getting her loose, so the cat could have never gotten loose herself. Had I given up instead of going into the woods, the cat definitly would not have lived. Try to keep your hopes up and keep looking for her. Maybe you can set out a bowl of her food. She might be able to smell it. And if you have any woods around you, go look in there.

I am sorry your cat got out. Hopefully she is hunkered down somewhere nearby. Prayers and PD she is found.

Try putting some food out by the door she escaped from. She's probably just scared and hiding for now. I've had cats missing for several days and then all of a sudden show up....with stories to tell.

Hope your little kitty comes back to you safe and sound and soon! In the meantime, I'll say a prayer for her safe return. :grouphug: :wizard:

I'm sure she will find her way home soon. My cat (declawed) got out a couple of years ago and was gone for almost two days. I found her on the back porch at 1 am. And last month she got out as we were leaving town for 3 nights. She was out the whole time and it was very cold. She still survived and found her way back home. Cats are very smart creatures.

When my epileptic kitty got out quite a few years ago, I was frantic. After two and a half weeks of non stop crying and searching she was found.
Our neighbor, a veterinarian, had found her on his front steps. I just ran up and hugged him...he must have thought I was nuts at the time!!
She had lost a lot of weight and was very scared, took her a while to really come around. Needless to say we really watch the door now.

Please don't give up hope...keep looking...will say a little prayer for your kitty.

Lisa

I am thinking positive thoughts that she will come home safe and sound. Hang in there.

I'm sorry, I hope seh comes home soon!

Oh no - I'm so sorry. I hope she's ok and found a warm place. You'd be surprised John - I lost a cat a few years ago during a blizzard and we searched everywhere. Turns out he was underneath of a thorn bush and he stayed there because the sun hit just the right spot and I guess he knew if he moved it would be too cold for him. We found him about 4 days after he got out. Good luck - I hope you find her soon. Say some prayers to St. Francis.

My thoughts are with you and I hope she will come home safe and soon.

I am so sorry. I dread that anything like that would happen to one of my cats. They also are indoor cats and two of them are older also. I'd hate to think what would happen to them. the thought makes me what to cry.

 So sorry to hear this. Cats are soo resilient...much more so than dogs. Hope this special kitty shows you just how smart and tough she is and wanders right back through the door she left. Soon! :thumbsup2

A few months ago, when Spider (Toy Poodle) was only 3 pounds, DH and I noticed the house had been too quiet for a while. We realized Spider was missing and we couldn't find him anywhere. Earlier in the evening we'd been out of the terrace and he was with us then. We ran to the terrace thinking he may still be sitting out there all alone in the dark. Nope. I began to tear up and run around the house with heart racing, opening closet doors, looking under beds, etc. DH got the flashlight and was preparing to go outside to search and I kept insisting was that there was NO WAY he could be outside....no doors had been opened since we were all on the terrace earlier. Well, he WAS outside and sitting in the pitch black at a side door we rarely use (and he's never even seen). Seems this tiny little dog either fell accidentally or leaped from the 2 story terrace. He refuses to answer any questions regarding this matter so I guess we'll never be sure if it was a suicide attempt or an accident. :scratchin

In addition to St. Francis...
Even though I'm not Catholic, when something is missing I always say a prayer to St. Anthony (the patron saint of lost things)...

"Tony, Tony look around
What was lost must be found".
(and then I add "Yaaaaaay, Tony!").

works for me,
agnes!
