My mom is in Fl., and I called today to say hi...she was having extreme trouble breathing and nauseated. My dad was gone ln business 45 miles away...I couldn't get her to stay on the line...she hung up. So I tried back, no answer do I called 911...I'm in Illinois, so I WAS A BIT FREAKED! Anyway, got hold of my dad, and paramedics brought her in...and right now they are testing for PE...from what I was able to quickly read on line about it, it is usually caused froma heart attck or similar...yet no signs of that, or at least that I know of.....anyone familiar?

Thanks, Pam

Praying for your mother. Keep us posted?

It sounds like she's in good hands. Keep us posted.

Pam -

I'm a paramedic in Florida. There are many possible causes of Pulmonary Edema. Heart attack is only one. Congestive heart failure is another + many others.

I would suggest you (if you have not already) speak directly with your mom's Doctor to get the specifics of the possible cause.

Best of wishes and prayeres.

FinFan, I hope all is well with your Mother. I'll be sending good thoughts her way. I posted on the other thread, but was afraid that you may not see it. I was wondering did they actually say pulmonary edema or PE. PE is usually considered Pulmonary embolism. Often the only signs of a heart attack are positive cardiac markers. This is done by checking the troponin & CK-MB levels.
It's a good thing that you called to say Hi today. Keep us updated please.

Still no news from my dad....not sure if this is good or bad:confused: She was tested for Pulminary Edema as they think there is water on/in the lungs?.... but I have not heard the results as of yet. I am glad she is at the hospital, I know she would have never called 911 herself...she's a tough cookie but has had her share of ailments over the last few years. Keeping positive thoughts and I can't tell you how much all your support means, thank you, and I will post more as I hear...DS Bday and party are tomorrow so may not get to posting 'till later.
JimB., Thanks for the info..unfortunately her reg MD is on vacation for 6 weeks, so sort of dealing with ER right now...
MagicalMom...they said edema, I used PE for short...had no idea it stood for something else, my goof. They are monitoring her heart, pushing fluids etc., flushing the system.
Kathlyn...Hey...will do:wave2:
Dan and PD...Thanks guys...it means a lot
Misty, damo(hi)and chell...THANKS ALL, I am really hoping it is no news is good news.

Pam

I hope it's good news too. I will say a prayer for her and your family.

I think no news right now is probably a good thing. I'll say a prayer for your mom.

Prayers for you mom, and a hug for you! I hope things improve quickly and she's much better.

You guys are the BEST! I do not have all the info., but my folks are back home and the pulmonary edema seems to have been ruled out... my dad is going to call me in a bit to fill me in on all the details, but the initial emrgency is passed. There are some concerns with her heart and edema in the legs pretty bad also, but the hospital did not find anything concerning enough to admit her. Fortunately they live 2 blocks from the hospital. So all I know is that heart monitoring, x-rays, and general check up was not at a negative level...or at least at this time...so thank you guys SO MUCH for all the prayers. I will post if any changes occur.

Wow, you've had a frightening day!
I'm glad things are looking better for your mom now tonite.

Hope your mom is feeling better soon. Keep us updated.

Pam, that sounds pretty good. Did they put her on any meds to clear up the fluid or do they think she will be fine without?
