Hi
We have our trip booked for 4, the end of June. I have to make a decision now to make sure that I can get my passes. We want the 5-day hopper passes which include water parks etc. I can get them at the disney store, but I have to order them by May 31..tomorrow! We have enough air miles to buy 2 base tickets or 1 ticket which includes the hopper and water parks. I was thinking if I got the 2 base tickets thru air miles, then all I would have to purchase is the 2 thru Disney Store and upgrade the e base tickets when we get to DW. Does anyone know if you can upgrade them there? I wouldn't want to get there & find that I'm stuck with 2 base tickets and have to pay extra to go to the water parks etc. If you can upgrade, does anyone know how much it costs? I might be better off buying 3 thru Disney store and just getting the 1 thru air miles...at least I know exactly what I'm getting!
Have to know as soon as possible as I have to buy by tomorrow. Sorry that I didn't give much time, but the idea just came to me!
Thanks

I am pretty sure you can upgrade..it you read the terms/conditions that are on the airmiles website for the tickets-I think it says something about that.

I did this back in February.

What I found was... the airmiles tix do not all have "gate ticket value". For example, I was calculating that I would need about $60 to upgrade to an AP but when they swiped the ticket at Guest services, the "value" of the airmiles ticket was discounted. So I spent $134 to upgrade to an AP (which is still a great deal, I am not complaining one bit). The airmiles tickets are worth it and you can upgrade once you are there, my mom and husband added hopping to their tickets no problem. I would get as many tickets as you can with airmiles.

The tickets from airmiles didn't take long to arrive, the longest time was 6 days, I ordered over the phone so that I could talk to a person and let them know I needed the tickets quickly. HTH

We also just did this in March. We used air miles for my kids' 7-day base tickets. It was about $35 plus tax per ticket to upgrade to add park hopping privileges. I think it would also have been $35 plus tax to add the plus feature to get access to the waterparks and Disney Quest. It's the same amount whether the base ticket is 5-days or 7-days. If you are staying on-site, you should be able to do it at the guest services counter at the resort (that is where we did it). If not, you should be able to do this at guest services in one of the parks or at Downtown Disney or at the TTC.

It may be a little tricky for them to do it, though. The way they process the upgrade is to essentially sell you a new ticket and you get credit for the value of what you are trading in. Earlier this year, some people have reported difficulty in getting the right amount for the "credit" of the ticket you are trading in (i.e., the base ticket) tickets acquired using air miles -- the amount of the credit should be the full WDW price for a 5-day base admisssion. There was a bit of a delay when we did this but the total time was probably about 15 minutes.

>>> the airmiles tickets do not have gate prices ...

Were those tickets Magic Your Way tickets or Park Hopper Plus tickets or promotional tickets?

Magic Your Way tickets should be valued at gate price when computing the dollars needed to upgrade but keeping Magic Your Way. If all you did was add hopping and it cost you $37., then the old ticket was valued at full gate price.

For upgrading of tickets towards annual passes, the old tickets have generally been valued less if you purchased them for less than gate prices. The exact value is dependent on what the wholesaler (ticket reseller agent, travel agent) paid for them.

For upgrading of (pre-2005) park hopper and park hopper plus tickets to Magic Your Way tickets, the old tickets have been valued at their gate prices as of the date of manufacture, not necessarily the date you ordered them or received them or tried to upgrade them.

Most promotional (and convention) tickets cannot be upgraded at all.

We had two Air Miles Tickets and three Ticketmania Tickets, so they re-issued us tickets and then upgraded to no-expiry... so we went through three tickets before we even went into the park. The fee for upgrading to no-expiry was the same as it would had been had we purchased the tickets through Disney.... and we have four days left on our passes for next trip - 2007!!!! (I'm keeping the passes in our safe with our passports so they won't get lost.)
