I walked out of the house this afternoon and found John standing in my driveway. He talked with me for a few minutes and i couldn't put my finger on it, but something seemed different. I had to leave and DH was waiting at the door for CHristian's bus to come. When the bus arrived John sprinted out there and grabbed Christian in his arms and swung him around, hugging him to his chest. Then he carried him up to the house and met DH at the door.
John has not spoken to DH or even met his eyes since he stormed out last August. But they met on the porch, with Christian between them, and John looked up and said softly, "Dad...I'm sorry..." (*OMG, I'm going to start crying~) Kitt told him he was also sorry, that he didn't really want to rehash things, that both of them had hurt each other and he just wanted to have a good relationship with his son. DH invited him in and he & John sat down and had a conversation at the table. John fed Christian his snack and gave him lots of hugs(he hasn't seen Christian in about 5 months and he loves that boy dearly!) John was willing to share some of his current life with DH, kinda filled in the blanks for us. He's doing well, but has a difficult living situation. DH mentioned that his room is still torn up after the Georgia floods, but John quickly cut him off by saying he couldn't move home. And we really do understand that. DH told him that everyone has a moment when they realize that they are better people when they live apart from their parents. He's 23; it's time. Anyway, after all that John gathered up his GF and his 16yo sister and took them all out for bubble tea.
I feel like the weight of the world just rolled off my shoulders. I hate that I missed it all,but maybe that was best--it was probably easier for him to have that conversation with just one of us. And i'm sure it was hard for him.
I'm just praising God for His many blessings!
