Thought maybe some of you were wondering what has been happening with Amy. She continues to improve, but she still isn't 100%.

We went back to her primary doctor last Wednesday. She said the foot is still infected, but continues to get better. She put her on another round of the same antibiotic (3 times a day instead of 4). We are watching for a return of a temperature. I am to call the office when she finishes the round of meds if the ankle is still oozing. It has almost stopped, but not quite.

Amy returned to school half days on Wednesday afternoon. We may give full days a try this coming week. Her foot still turns very dark purple when she is on it for very long and changing classes is hard work, but she is walking better every day. The doctor wrote a note to the school that they shouldn't count her tardy if she is late to class. She is keeping the foot up on a chair during classes. One more week and she'll be off for spring break. Hopefully after that we'll be back to normal.

I just wanted to say thank you for all the support. It has been a trying time, especially with my DH's news of his plant closing coming at the same time. I guess when it rains it pours. Your PM's and posts helped lighten the load. Amy said to say a thank you from her, too. And she appreciated the cards that she recieved. :) It's pretty boring sitting around for a month when you are 11 years old! You guys helped brighten some days.

I am so glad that things are looking better. Maybe this will be the last round of anitbioitcs that she has to take.

Maybe she should stay at school part-time until after Spring Break?

Glad to hear that she is getting better as time goes on. I do hope that the next round of antibiotics will help her. I hope that things go well for you all with your DH's plant closing too. Continued prayers for Amy's recovery and that everything does go well with you all.

I'm so glad that Amy is doing better. I hope she continues to improve every day. {{{HUGS}}} for your brave girl.

Thanks for the update. I'll be glad to hear she's all better.

Wow, that was one tough infection. Glad to hear she is still on the mend. Thanks for keeping us posted! Continued prayers for all of you.

Certainly has been an ordeal, Melissa, for little Amy. But so glad to hear she continues to improve and almost getting back to 100%. Continued good wishes for her in the coming days. {{Hugs}} for you both.

Dan

Hi Melissa:wave: Thanks for the update!

I'm sorry Amy isn't back fully recovered yet. Infections can really cause havoc can't they. :( I wonder if the school could let her leave class a couple of minutes early so she wouldn't have to even be in the halls when a bunch of kids are changing classes. I don't know where exactly on her foot this is but it would sure be awful if someone stepped on it accidentally.

We would love to send her a card if you would PM me your address!

Take care.

It's on the ankle bone. On the outside of her right foot. Her friends have been wonderful. They are helping her carry her stuff from class to class and positioning themselves where she won't be bumped. Of course, sometimes she take too long and they have to go on without her so they won't be late themselves.

We may do half days all of this week, too, jamsmom. I just haven't decided. She sat around all day today, but a lot of the time I noticed she had it down instead of up on a pillow. It seemed a little redder tonight. She is anxious to be back full-time. I just don't want her to overdo it. The last thing I want is for it to come back on us. I don't think it is weeping as much today, so that is good.

I had an automated call from the school system last night. Actually, Amy picked up the phone before I got there and she said that the message was something about unexcused absences. **Sigh** I guess I have to get yet another note from the doctor. All this red tape is a pain. They don't seem to understand that the doctor wanted her to start back with half days. I know they don't get money from the government when she is only there part-time, but the other option is for her to stay home and they provide a teacher for 3 hours a week. Seems to me that they'd rather have her there. Either that is the problem or they didn't accept the doctor's note excusing her for being late to classes, because she can't walk that fast yet. Her teachers have been the greatest, but the office has been difficult.

A friend called me this week. She told me that she once had a strep infection like this, where it got in her bloodstream. When her husband took her to the emergency room, they told him that her organs would have started to shut down in a matter of hours! It's a really dangerous infection. We are lucky that we got her to the hospital when we did.

Thanks for the update, wish it was all good news but sounds like Amy is well on her way to recovery. :)
