Is it me?
I just received the replacement 18-125
This box is in worst shape then the first (which is already on it's way back), Sides ripped with scotch tape on it!!Wear & tear from sliding on shelves and rubbing up against other boxes?

Looking at the lens itself (behind the back cover cap), by no means am I proffesional but it is apparent that it has been attached to a camera in the past. :confused3

Reason I ask....

First I just received my order from B&H. yipeeee.
Ordered it yesterday at 2PM and rcvd this AM
Paid for 2 day service, was $11.00 more then the 3-5 day.

Question I have is it the box that the Sigma is in, the actual Sigma box is old....it is a used box. the instruction sheet inside was opened before as it is not folded the correct way, I would say the lens is used?

Has anyone received one recently that the Sigma box was new?

We got one last week from Sigma4less . com and it appeared to be brand new...

I suppose it's possible that it's been used for display purposes in the shop, or that it has been taken out of the box to show to a prospective purchaser. I assume it was advertised as new? How much did you pay for it? One of the downsides of mail order, but I wouldn't be happy.

I paid $279.00,

I've already called them, have a Return #, box (used) packed, waiting for UPS to pick this one back up. Have them overnighting me a new one.
Let's just hope the 2nd is the real deal.

It happens. They were nice enough about it.

Well, they're a respectable outfit, but you've got to think they were just hoping to offload it.

I bought one on Tuesday and UPS tracking says it should be here today. I'll let you know how mine comes in...

ETA: $279 after shipping? I paid $234.95 plus $12 for normal shipping. I hope I bought the right lense!

that's possible but I doubt it, they have a used section and could esily sell it there at a decent profit.. they haven't built their reputation by scamming people..

I am sure your right, just trying to unload it.....

Thx Monte...I'm curious now

No, I agree. What I meant is that it's probably a new lens which has been in and out of the box a few times. If I'd received such an item in the mail, I might decide to keep it (as long as I was convinced the actual lens was new). However, if I was buying it in person, I would be less likely to accept it.

that's fast...being cheap i probably would have tried out the lens and then if it seemed ok asked if they would reduce the cost...it could have just been a mix up but i was just in a camera store that told me they couldn't keep them in stock so it seems weird that it would have been sitting around that long "new" :confused3 so i would go with it being a demo or something depending on how old the box looked

if it was a demo/display, they legally must tell you and sell it as such...

a good store rotates their stock, so the odds of the same lens repeatedly being removed from the box to show a customer are rather slim...although possible...

I suspect it might have been a LEMON...

... that is ... technically it was a "new" lense which had been handled and sold/returned enough times to have its' box worn and the instruction sheet refolded a few times. I would be wary... try it out and EITHER WAY (IE - with having discovered a falut or NOT)... I would have immediately reached for the phone to ask for the courtesy of a refund or replacement.

I am not sure if you could have obtained a "break" for keeping it - but JANN sure has the blessed heart of a creative horse trader! ("cordial compliments offerred") I'll have to remember to list THAT option among my considerations the next time I encounter a similar circumstances! I thought "I" was a decent horse trader!!! Just goes to show - there's always a better idea - or bigger 39MP sensor just over the horizon!!! Thank You Hasselblad for giving us a real "holy grail" in DP terms... the H2D-39 including an 80mm f2.8 lense ... only $29,994.95 from B&H. Which is pretty reasonable comsidering what you're getting! Now all you'd need to add is the $2,000 extrenal 40GB hard drive storage units and a kackle of lenses at $2-10K+ a pop.... and the dedicated Hasselblad processing cart with twin 20" dinema monitors! I don't know WHAT a full Hasselblad kit would run but I imagine you could get above $35K pretty easily and might even approach $100,000 if you tried to have a backup or aternate on hand for most things.

TTFN!

but if the box for the Hasselblad was messed up maybe you could get it for $29,994.50 :teeth: never hurts to ask.......

B&H is the best in the business, but they do make mistakes once in a while. They make fewer than most photo suppliers, but they do make them.

It does sound like you got a previously returned lens by mistake, but B&H made good on it, as they always do.

I don't buy much from B&H myself, because price is always such an issue for me, but I have bought a fewe things, and I have friends who buy from them constantly for the service and fast shipping. They really are the best in the business.

This is my first dealing with B&H and I hold nothing against them.

It happens, Customer service was great, apologetic, no hassles, the way Customer service should be.Overnight a new one to me at no cost.
They had to charge my CC for the new one and will credit upon the returned one.

Will buy again from them if they have something I need.

Just the excitment of receiving everything a day early and not being able to use it....

I agree...

... in that I consider B&H reliable and a tolerable value in most respects.

... now imagine if I just banged up the brand new box myself and crumpled the instruction booklet - you suppose they would see through knocking off a whole dollar???? Hey ... a buck is a buck?!.... eh?

it'll buy you a burger off a value menu :lmao:however how good would it taste if you banged up the box yourself...it's not a REAL bargain then and part of the joy of a good buy is the surprise of it imo:rotfl2:( ot but ie...we got $300 off our washer and dryer cause the company messed up and we didn't even have to ask..they just kept giving us more off cause they kept messing up,,however I didn't complain and make them take the money back:teeth: )

In re-reading your email I think I bought mine at a different website. I bought it at sigma4less.com. Received it yesterday in what looked to be new packaging and all. Hopefully you get yours cleared up.

Get back on that phone Mickears!! Maybe there is a problem with the order paperwork and the guys shipping out your lens think your ordered a used lens. :confused3 Whichever the problem, you paid for a new lens and that is what you should get. I have ordered a ton of new camera stuff from B&H and everything was in pristine condition
