UPDATE it looks like a hoax, smells like a hoax...--re: Harry Potter

Rowling casts Brits only. The only exceptions are the students from the other wizard schools in Europe -- Beauxbatons and Durmstang. French actress, Clemence Poesy, plays Fleur Delacour. The girls playing her classmates might also be French since they come from the French Wizard School, Beauxbatons. Stanislav Yanevski, the young man who plays Viktor Krum, is from Bulgaria and I'm sure they cast his classmates from there as they hail from Durmstrang. Although they don't tell us where Durmstrang is located, you can assume Eastern European [Bulgaria?]area. The Tri-Wizard tournament involves the three European Wizarding schools. Therefore, they cast only those roles outside of England but exclusively Europe for representation of those schools.

The US has not been brought into any of the books and since Rowling wants only Brits in the films, you can count on zero chance of an American being in the film. There are plenty of Brits to cast from, I'm sure.

If they are smart, they will wait until book 7 comes out before filming Half Blood Prince. They had to fix a part in Goblet of Fire because of info in HBP!
Well, not quite... They goofed on info that we knew from CoS and GoF. You didn't have to have read HBP to catch that ridiculous mistake. Luckily it's been fixed.

But yes, it's unlikely that there will be any Americans cast. Rowling was even asked if she'd include any Americans in the story and she said that she didn't see any need to since she's writing about a British school. (link)

Thanks guys--you are stating exactly what I thought re: british actors.

Thanks Feralpeg for checking on that.

My mother got a follow up e-mail...I cannot believe some people!

I'm not a HP expert--but the red flag to me was the claim to cast a non-Brit or non-European in the film...this is just so predatory to get people's money it is rediculous.

Oh--and you gotta love it whne there are misspellings and hey--they include "feeding". I guess horses can apply, too. :teeth:

The follow up e-mail:

How weird--just submitted my first submissions to Snopes for them to investigate.
Very cool! I love Snopes. You also might want to submit it to TLC or Mugglenet as the people most likely to be taken in by this probably read those sites.

Ok here is a stupid question....are they recasting everyone? or will the kids continue to play their characters till the books are done?

I'd be more than happy to forward them to you via Pm and you could do that. I looked at those sites...and as a non-HP enthusiast...my brain just couldn't handle the navigation. :)

Not an expert--but saw one blip on one of the recommended sites that the actors are aging faster than the characters. But that's all I saw regarding that.

What did they have to fix?

Be my guest! But it might be more useful if you email it to me so the original headers and stuff are on the email. I'll PM you my email address.

In August, many fans were up in arms over this photo, that appeared in Entertainment Weekly and incorrectly named Tom Riddle's paternal ancestors. The name "Marvolo" appeared at that time, which is from Tom Riddle's maternal line, and the dates were unrealistic according to the background info from the books.

Reader Naomi sent us this photo from MovieFone, which shows that WB has fixed the error, taking out "Marvolo" and changing Tom Sr.'s birthdate from 1915 to 1905. First a comma, now a gravestone - the power of the fans! Thanks Naomi!

I certainly hope they will keep the same cast. I suppose the actors could decide they no longer wish to be tied to that particular character - some of the minor characters don't necessarily want to keep acting (The boy who plays Draco Malfoy want to go to school to study fishery!)

Please don't ask me what fishery is!

Anyway, I don't see any problem with the kids aging - Hollywood frequently has adults playing teenagers (see Beverly Hills 90210!). And it would only be a few years anyway. I don't think I, for example, looked significantly "older" at age 19 than I did at age 17.

Yeah ... uh, huh ... if Warner Bros. really wants you in their movie, Warner Bros. is going to pay whatever fees/expenses it takes to get you there, get you trained, lodge and feed you, etc.

When "someone" starts asking for money, you know it's a hoax/suspicious. I'm sure for a large sum of money, they'll make you a famous actor/actress, too.

I feel bad for the people who fell for this and I am glad that you or your family did not get sucked in. Problem is, people see Harry Potter movie and, let's face it, many of us would love to be an extra in that movie ... so they know they'll get some people to bite. Can you file w/the Better Business Bureau or blow them in to the local tv station? These people need to be stopped.

Wow what a scam. Of interest (I hope) I read that besides Robbie Coltrain JK Rowling really wanted Dame Maggie Smith in the film as well. Which you can't blame her, she is wonderful.
