Had the meeting yesterday with the surgeon/oncologist.

I have multi-something (the name escapes me now) cancer. This means rather than having it in just one spot it is growing in multiple spots at the same time. In my case it is in four separate areas. Because of this, chemotherapy and radiation are not an option, nor is a lumpectomy (sp). I was told I must have a mastectomy.

The doctor went over everything in detail and will check the lymph nodes during the operation. If it hasn’t spread, I should be done with just this procedure and taking Tomoxifin (sp). If it has spread....back to the drawing board I guess.

She also went over the reconstruction options. I’m meeting with the plastic surgeon on Aug. 22nd – the day after my daughter and I come back from our trip to Disney! We’re taking a little spur of the moment trip from Aug. 15-21st, before our annual passes expire. We had planned it before all this happened. The doctor saw no reason to cancel. Thank goodness!!

My surgery is tentatively scheduled for September 11th - just perfect. How lucky is that??

I just want to tell you all how much your kind words, encouragement and prayers have meant to me over these last few days. You’ve made me cry and smile and your support has meant the world to me.

I have heard by e-mail from some survivors and those affected personally by this disease and I thank you for sharing your stories with me and for all the extremely helpful advice you’ve passed along. Congratulations to you all for having the strength to come through all you have so wonderfully and for the depth of your compassion in sharing your lives with me. I don’t even have the words to express my gratitude.

Who would have thought that my Disney obsession would turn out to be such a life-saver! Who’s crazy now??

Kathi

Just wondering if it was multiple myeloma that you were diagnosed with as I have a family member who has it.

Kathi, you have my prayers and support at this difficult time. I sincerely hope you have a wonderful trip to WDW with your daughter...enjoy each other. Then come home ready to face the future with your DISfriends by your side. ;)

I'll be praying for you and your family...

Kathi: I am so sorry the diagnosis was so severe. I will continue to pray for your recovery. Thank you for being able to share with us in this difficult time. I hope you have a great time at WDW, even with this hanging over your head. I don't know what you're going through, but I can pray that God will comfort you and steady the doctor's hand while in surgery. Also that it hasn't spread anymore. Good luck and God bless. Keep us posted.

Kathi, a big {hug} for you, today, and in the coming weeks and months. Along with it comes my prayers, so very important in our lives they are.

Sounds like you are on track to recovery, a roadmap of steps to take. And it is so good for you to be able to get away from it all and a go for a few days of head clearing enjoyment at WDW with you daughter.

As the days and weeks go on, please stop back to let us know how you are doing, good days, and maybe more importantly, if you have some bad days along the way. I have seen so many people, just like you, so helped in spirit by these boards, as almost all the people here are so caring and helpful. You have a good group of people who have gone through this already, or who still are, stay in touch with them. And if you ever feel the need, you do know how to get in touch with me.

Again, Kathi, my best, a {hug} and most importantly, my prayers. You said it so well......
Who would have thought that my Disney obsession would turn out to be such a life-saver! Who’s crazy now
God bless you. :sunny:

Sending prayers and pixie dust your way.

Enjoy your trip to WDW and try not to think about your upcoming surgery while you are there!

Oh, Kathi:

I never would've guessed that a search on Disney related boards would've resulted in lifelong relationships and people like this, either! They've thrown me on their backs and gotten me through more times than I can tell ya!

May the Lord lead your doctors' hands in a way that will heal you forever!

Prayers and hugs for you and your family. God will give you all the strength to get through this.
