My Dh has a hard red lump between his chest and shoulder on the right side, about 4 to 5 inchs oblong. It is stumping the DR. 's they aren't even sure it is Cellulitis. His joints hurt. His arm on that side has limited motion. He is in pain. His temp has been 102 to 103. DR's have done x-rays,blood tests, blood cutures, all are normal, his white cell count is going down.

They even called in a surgeon today. Who said they may just cut it open to see if it helps?

Please help?? If you can. This so odd my Dh is hardly ever sick.

Please send us prayers and pixie dust. Thank-you.

My DS got a mosquito bite a while back. It would not go away and he woke up with a huge red lump near his ankle. We took him to the Dr. and she said it was cellulitis. She had everyone come in the office-other Dr.'s and nurses to look at it. She couldn't believe it happened to my DS.

She told me she was very glad I came in when I did. She put him on antibiotics immediately and said the joint was in danger of becoming septic.

Dr. said that he could have lost his foot if we hadn't brought him in. I didn't realize how serious it could be and assumed it was just a bite that would take longer to go away.

Is he on antibiotics?

Please keep us posted. I am sending good thoughts your way!

I'm sending prayers and pixie dust your way!

My son woke up one morning with a black eye which came out of nowhere (no injuries to cause it). The dr. almost admitted him to the hospital! It was cellulitis. They put him on a very strong antibiotic, kept him home from school and I took him in every morning for 6 days so they could check him.

Cellulitis is an infection. Since his was around his eye, it caused them concern because the infection could easily spread to the brain and cause meningitis - that's why they were so cautious with him.

I'd think they would put your DH on a strong antibiotic and see if it helped. If it's cellulitis, then wouldn't his white cell count be up? Is the area warm to the touch? I think the site of cellulitis would be warmer than regular body temp since it signals a bad infection.

Someone more in the know, please correct me if I have my facts wrong - it's been a while since I've dealt with this.

I hope they figure things out soon and all is well with your DH.

DH had cellulitus almost 5 years ago. His skin was very hot to the touch, red, sensitive. It looked like a small bug bite (we thought he had a spider bite), and his skin puffed up the tiniest bit, and it spread unevenly down his shin from mid calf. He still has scars five years later. The infected area looked purplish and seemed to look 'sunken in' from my way of looking at it.

My instinct reading it was Lyme disease, but I am probably totally off base. In any event, I'd be bugging the doctors to start a prophylactic dose of antibiotics.

I hope your husband finds out what he has soon. Prayers to the two of you. If it is found to be cellulitis, it may take him a while to be out of pain. DH was taken out of work by docs for a month! We were very lucky. We were up on LI for a wedding, and my DH was going to wait until we drove back home the next day to treat it. When my sister and brother in law looked at it when we got in from the wedding, they insisted we go right to the ER...and we were told it may have saved his life.

Sunday morning at 2:00am they gave him a broad sprectrum antibiotic. Then Sunday afternoon they started another antibiotic that is recommend as the proper one. And have continued it 3 times a day. But with no luck so far. It seems to be getting worse.

Now they are talking about cutting it open down to the muscle to drain it.

Feb 4 is Dh's birthday and the way things look he will still be in the hospital then. Not a great B-Day.

I'm so worried

Guess what now!

Dh is allergic to the antibiotics, mid day monday he had a bad reaction to the ER antibiotic from sunday. They changed the antibiotic for the next dose and he had a reaction to that one! Yesterday they Changed antibiotic again and last night he was having a reaction to that one too!!! And most all of the pain medications they have tryed, too.

They want to sent him home this morning. But they haven't even found him an antibiotic that can work, yet. Plus they want ME to hook up the IV 3 x aday!

I want him to stay in the hospital at least until they found an antibiotic that will work!!!! Plus I don't like the idea of signing paperwork that says I AM now responsible for what happens.

Dh is an employee of this heath system so they treat him like dirt and any of my question are all nonsense !!

The Dr. was on the floor last night to see patients, and the nurse said they wanted to send Dh home last night,So I was staying to see the Dr. Because of my concern that so far they haven't found anything he can take. Well,I sat there from 7:00pm to 10:30 pm and he never showed. So I went to see if he was still there?? He had skipped my Dh and just written orders for him and one to sent him home today!! I had wanted to get home to see my Dd 17 who I haven't seen in a week!! But they just left me hanging!!!

I think I need to get a Lawyer.

Thanks for letting me vent. I can't say anything at the hospital or they will dock my Dh for it as not being Professional!! Even though he's the sick PATIENT!! And I'm the stupid wife who just want a few answers!! But I'm suppose to shut up and do as I'm told by the all mighty Staff and Dr.s.
And sooooo isn't me

Oh my goodness, what a nightmare!!!! Keep fighting for what you believe is right. You will only regret it if you don't. I sure hope that they find something that works soon.

I'm sorry to hear about your Dh. And even sorrier to hear about the hospital. I'd be blowing major gaskets if i were you. You have every right to see the Doc to ask your questions.

They should make every effort to get him on an antibiotic that works b4 sending him home. Changing an IV yourself really isn't hard as long as you are shown by a professional first. But, to send him home b4 they have him on something that works is extremely risky. If your husband were a regualr patient instead of a colleague I'd wager they'd pay a lot more attention to your concerns. If you can you may want to consider transferring him to a hospital outside the health system he works for. If you can't and still don't get results then by all means call an attorney. Don't let them get away with anything.

Good luck

I kept thinking about you and your DH last night! I sure hope they keep him in there until they find out what is wrong. Is he getting better or worse??

I can't believe the Dr. skipped you. Has someone been in to see you today??

since the week before xmas..........she has a health nurse that comes in each day to clean her legs and dress them again.....she was on three different types of antibiotics.......for five weeks.......she also goes to a wound center once a week so they can treat it too......I hope you get some answers to this soon.......cellulitis is a very dangerous condition if it gets to far advanced

I don't understand why he would be punished for asking questions?

Cellulitis can be dangerous. Are you honestly going to leave the hospital without the proper antibiotic?

Why would he be unprofessional for asking questions? This is very serious.

Well, they sent him home at noon. With 9 days of at home IV antibiotics that he and I have to hook up to his PIC line IV.

Dh is still in pain.

I just don't don't know what, they are thinking?

they also gave my mother pain pills to help her.......she had it in both legs and it was very severe........hope you get some answers

I wouldn't give them a moments peace until he was taken care of. This is NOT how you should be treated by the medical community. I would be on the phone all hours, sitting down at the clinic until it was taken care of or a policeman carried us away.

Time to take some assertiveness training and get to the bottom of this!! This is his LIFE we are talking about!! Don't let them push you around!

Anyway, I sure hope this antibiotic does the trick and he gets better soon. Be strong!
