UPDATE:A limo for a 1st graders bday?

one of my friends has a daughter that went to a birthday party that involved a limo ride. The girls, 2nd grade, were picked up at school in the limo and brought to a salon where they had manis and pedis.

I don't know, but my friend told me that only 6 girls in the class were invited :sad2: Can you imagine the poor girls that didn't get to go?

No..I think that is rude... and sad...

I don't think it's that big a deal, I think it's fun. I don't know how expensive it is, but if a person can afford it, I don't see the harm. And at this age, they're still not too cool to show they're having fun.

We're a homemade birthday party at home family, so I think alot of the destination parties are a bit much. I let DD go if invited and just don't even worry about trying to keep up.

I would not have sent her in a limo at 6 though. Don't most states still require kids to be in car/booster seats? At any rate, I would draw the line there. (And would be very unpopular with DD as well...)

Of course......Why not...
but DD will have to settle for a simpler party... LOL roller skating or such...

I didn't know if you thought it was inappropriate for your dd to go (age wise).

We have done that for 2 of our parties for my neices. Mom and I wanted to be a part of the fun in the back and not have to drive the group around to our destinations - never mind the liability/responsibility when someone is paid to focus on the driving, which for us was a plus. We love to have a memorable and fun party. It is expensive, but if you can afford it, why not? They both still remember it! They were for 10 year parties to commemorate turning double digits!

Inappropriate in an over the top sense ... maybe that is too strong of a word...

although the poster who brought up booster seats raises an interesting point.....

I know someone who arranged for her kids and some friends to ride in a limo for the first day of school. Tacky tacky tacky.

I think it sounds like fun.

Both of my DDs have been in limos. My oldest got to go to McDonalds in one from school. It was for being on of the 8 top readers in her 2nd grade class. My youngest one rode in one last year at age 9. A bunch of her friends went to the Hanna Montana movie, and out to eat. They both loved it, and would absolutely go crazy if I got them one for their birthday.

Personally, I am not appalled at all. I had a limo for my DD 16th birthday and we went into NYC. If it is in the family budget and kids like it, so be it.

I remember when my DD was 3 yrs old and our town held a daddy and daughter dance. Girls got dressed up and dads wore suits. You went to the community center and had a nice party with a DJ, food and games. One of the dads at the party was talking to my DH who said they he had terminal cancer and that he would never be able to see his daughter grow up or walk her down the aisle. He had decided to take her to the party in a limo so that hopefully she would remember it.

I have never forgotten that story

I don't think its too much. When dd was in 1st & ds in preschool, both in dance, dd's friend's grandma paid for a limo ride for his granddaughters recital gift and dd & ds was invited. Parents met at dance studio, kids got pictures posing in front of the limo in their costumes, they took a 20 minute ride to the recital performance location, and we met them there. The kids had a ball.

We had a limo at our school two weeks ago for a 7th grade party for 5 girls. Very not cool for all the other girls waiting for rides watching the photos, etc. :sad2:

I have no problem with a limo party -- but not in everyone's faces

don't see the big deal.....what if it was her last birthday? I don't think it is spoiling as long as the child is grounded in other ways....I am taking dd's 4 and 6 to JB concert in august and am debating on taking a limo with just us girls.

If you don't like it, don't let your child go.

I admit it seems very over the top to me for a six year old's party. But that would just never happen in my area. We are more of a roller skating/bowling type of town.

I guess I should live by you!! LOL
My best memories from childhood never revolved around expensive things..
metal skates and a skate key on a string...etc.

my son and I were just talking about a version of pin the tail on the donkey he made for his bday years ago... a hockey goalie he drew himself....

I remember trying to levitate kids and playing mummy toilet paper wrap at my Bday...(halloween baby)

Guess I prefer simple things.....

ITA. My first thought was also booster seats. Is it a BYOBooster Seat party?:)
