UPDATE #293 FINAL LIST : DVC Christmas Tree, Sharing Holiday Magic!

Hi liferbabe, I did check out FEDX ground, but I was late shipping the trees before our trip and wanted them to arrive when we were at OKW so I could make sure they arrived safely. It was less than $20 - but more than $10 - so I went with the "safe" option for my sanity. I'm not really concerned about getting paid back....it was my own decision to take the pricier option. I should have reported a lesser amt however - but wasn't thinking of that. Not a biggie. It was just fun doing it.

mmmmcq, not directed at you, just wanted to share my positive experience with Fedex Ground. I understand it will not work for every situation.
You've added extra magic to several people's vacations so no regrets :wizard:

Sorry, wasn't defensive. I was miffed at myself that week for not being more organized. But life was especially busy. They got there - that's all that mattered to me! Next year I won't have as much organizational work to do because I intend to change the boxes when they return, refill anything that's missing or broken and tape'm up!

I just wanted to thank everyone involved in organizing this. We are leaving in the morning and are thrilled to have a tree during our stay.

Thanks again everyone!

I too shipped my last two boxes later than I wanted too, and I was going to do the 3 day shipping until they told me it would be $72.00 to ship eachof the two sets of boxes via 3 day shipping. $150 bucks!!! ACK!!!!

I almost did it, becuase I really didnt want to let the first families down, but thankfully the lady at the Fedex office assured me that they would get there in time via regular rates... around $15 for both boxes... I took the chance and did the regular shipping and they both arrived 3 days later!!!

mmmcq I think you have the right idea... when they are shipping back to me I will take care of them and get them all ready for next year! Too much stress (but a good kind of stress!)

Laurabearz .. Enjoyed the tree .. SSR #2. Ended up picking it up on Sunday due to some difficulties with checking in and bell services. All went well, we left it at Bell Services this morning for Poohbear158 to pickup tomorrow. ... thanks .. Nedlo2

We got ours today too Laurabearz. Unfortunately, we're on the 1st floor so don't have a way to plug in any exterior lights. :(

awe... sorry to hear that... I suppose you could plug them in on the inside and leave the door cracked a bit.... but that only works for when your in the room...

Anyway I hope you have a magical stay!

just bumping to bring it to the top as we so looking forward to picking up our tree at OKW on the 24th! thanks again to all and have a MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL.
Marianne..

We are in the process of moving to Fl (Melbourne) and may be driving to Disney instead of flying. cutting it very close as we are set to fly on the 20th to stay first at a studio and the 2 days with friends at SSR till the 24th but our buyers got their mortgage commitment yesterday which means we could close as early as the 11th or the latest on the 15th. have been packing like crazy and stressed to the MAX!! WISH US LUCK WITH THE MOVE, send some pixie dust this way please.. :thanks:

WHere do we pick these trees up again?? IS it guest services?? THANKS!

Oh how cool! We can't wait to share in this tree - can't believe we'll be there in 3 weeks!

I'm so glad that DVCers are sharing a Xmas tree!
What a wonderful idea!
I've read about the issue of sending the trees back to original owners and the cost of freight to do so and I thought I might make a suggestion.

Ownerslocker is a new company that specializes in storing stuff for DVC members. The owner of the biz is a DVCer who lives in Celebration. I've had a locker since May and I love being able to store coffee, balcony minilights and extention cord, tequila and grand marnier for margartas, extra sneakers and clothes, real glasses (I normally stay in a studio and hate plastic) , wine opener, etc. instead of lugging all that stuff home. I think John is even renting special 'XMas lockers' in addition to the regular lockers.

Im guessing that renting ONE of these lockers for each tree and then sharing the cost of rental between all the people using it would be more efficient and easier than sending it back and forth by freight. www.ownerslocker.com should get you to the site but you could also email john for info at john@jdvm.com. I vouch for his professionalism and care!

Hope this helps! and everybody...enjoy those beautiful Xmas trees!

Looking forward to picking up our tree on Sunday!

All Trees should be dropped off with Bell service and picked up with Bell service, but for some reason you can always check with the front desk if bell service cant locate the tree.

So far it sounds like no problem picking up the trees, knock on wood :goodvibes

Okay, I'm sure this has been discussed, but my computer is moving really slowly today and it's hard to wade through the thread....

....can someone give me a suggestion on the best way to ship the tree back to the owner at the end? Do I work through the resort (VWL)? Or should I take it to a nearby UPS Store? I'm not trying to save the last nickel on shipping, but rather want to know the best way to make sure it gets back to its home.

If working through the resort is the best way, would that be through Guest Services? Bell Services? :confused3

Sorry if I sound dumb but obviously have never shipped anything from WDW before.

TIA.

The trees don't get thrown away. They are set up to be returned to the donor at the end of their "run". Most of them will be recycled for next year.

At this point the trees have all been shipped and those of us who shipped them taped a list on the outside of each box designating when they would be picked up at each resort and by whom. WDWstar had to "close" the list at some point to make it possible for us to complete the lists and ship the trees in time for the first arrival at a WDW resort. I believe there were several other inquiries after the list was closed.

At the front end of this thread you can find notes from folks who have found pre-decorated trees at certain stores (Joanne's?) and have had them shipped directly to themselves. Perhaps this is an alternative?

Have a great trip to WDW during the holidays.

Hello,

Thank you for the tree, we were the first ones for an OKW tree and it was great. It brought some Christmas spirit to our room.

I'll post a picture of the tree this weekend after I down load them. Everything arrived in good order and there were plenty of ornaments.

Thanks again :thumbsup2

We were the first family to have the tree. We replaced the lights for the railing. We used them around the TV stand not out side. The old lights were broken. We also added a stocking for all to sign with there screen name to it. We all love the tree and hope all the other familys enjoy the tree as we did. Thank you WDWstar for this tree sharing list. Happy Holidays to all.
