UPDATE 1/20!! Bickering, Barfing, and Bug Bites

I'm in! I was at CSR on the 20th, too - maybe we saw each other!

(I'm also very curious to hear about your bug bites...I got home and had a bunch of bites on my right leg and FREAKED OUT that they were from bedbugs -- even though I took every possible precaution -- but it's looking like they were just from some other bug, thank goodness!)

Welcome back to the wonderful world of CT and the nice cold weather. I can't wait for the first installment.:yay:

We probably did! I was trekking all over the place! The bug bites will first appear in the 2nd chapter!

Welcome back to the wonderful world of CT and the nice cold weather. I can't wait for the first installment.:yay:

Ugh, I hate it! It was almost 90 when we left Florida on Friday...we get home to CT and it's 37 degrees!!! I think it's gonna snow soon...I wouldn't be surprised if it snows before Thanksgiving. :cold:

As most of you know, I started packing about a month in advance. I am happy to report that I didn't forget anything! At least not any of MY stuff....:rolleyes1

It occurred to me as we were driving to my mom's on Tuesday morning that I never actually packed Lumar any socks. Oops.... :headache:

First, let me just say that all of the pics from our first day were taken with my cell phone. I did have both my and Lumar's camera on me, but the cell phone was right there and it's mostly food pics so it worked out.

So we get to my mom's around 7:30am and leave for the airport at 8am. It should have only been a 45 minute drive but with the ridiculous highway construction (they should seriously just change us from The Constitution State to The Construction State), it took us about 90 minutes. We got to the airport just after 9:30am and it was a total shock to me. We are used to flying out of a pretty decent sized airport. The one we used this year only has 4 gates. It has 3 lines for security and one sitting/waiting area. I felt like a sardine. I was not happy. Oh...and then they had the nerve to charge me $12 for an egg & cheese and a small bottle of orange juice.

So our flight finally boards and takes off almost exactly on time! We also landed exactly on time at 2pm! Here are some pics I took "illegally" (i.e I had my cell phone on so I could take them and we were still in the air and I shouldn't have):

Ahhh! Home Sweet Home! So we head straight to the DME counter and I was pleasantly surprised to see that they have changed their process for the better! If you don't have your DME packet, you have to stand in the regular line and go to the big check-in desk. If you DO have your packet, you proceed directly to the bus line and they have a new little booth set up. The CM checks your book and tells you which line to get in and you're done! We were immediately put on a bus and we didn't make any other stops on our way to CSR! The whole experience was Pixie Dust filled in my opinion! We were off to a great start!

So we get to our beautiful wonder home-away-from-home:

IMG_20101019_151651.jpg

and head to the online check-in area. The CM was super sweet but I could tell she was really nervous. She asked if we had stayed there before and we told her yes, but then she proceeded to tell me all about it. So she gives us the packet of info and tells me that I got my building request! :woohoo: Ranchos section, building 7B! Then she gave us our map and sent us on our way...but I had to ask her for our room number before we left because she forgot to give it to us!

We were on the 2nd floor, room 7669. It was a corner room but only one window, but the rooms were just recently refurbished and everything is brand new. It was gorgeous. I would give pretty much anything to go back and sleep in that room again tonight!

So we're all checked in, we get to the room (about a 5 minute walk from the main building) and freshen up then walk over to the bus stop so we can get to dinner at Paradiso 37 in DTD! I had read that building 7B was close to a bus stop so I was surprised to find that we had a bit of a walk.... (keep this in mind for a future story).

Here we are waiting at the bus stop:

We got to Paradiso about 15 minutes late but it wasn't busy yet so we were still able to be seated immediately. We got a nice table outside on the deck, right on the water:

IMG_20101019_165220.jpg

We decided to just order a few appetizers and split them. Here's Lumar asking me what I want to order and I take my first "SURPRISE!" pic of the trip:

IMG_20101019_165249.jpg

We ordered the Caribbean Crab & Fish Fritters (FABULOUS! I loved these! Lumar tried them and didn't like it but he usually doesn't like fish and at least he tried it!) :

IMG_20101019_170636.jpg

The Central American Crazy Corn (Lumar liked it, I wasn't impressed) :

IMG_20101019_170630.jpg

And the Chili Con Carne (would have been AWESOME except there are beans in it and HATE beans...it was REALLY GOOD aside from that, though) :

IMG_20101019_170641.jpg

And I had my first Big Girl drink of the trip! My favorite, a Cosmo :lovestruc
Oh, and Lumar has a Dos Equis :thumbsup2

IMG_20101019_170109.jpg

After our fabulous meal, we decided to try a dessert. We settled on the Chocolate Stack, not really sure what we were getting ourselves into:

IMG_20101019_173823.jpg

It was amazing! Sweet, but good! If Tonga Toast is too sweet for you, then you probably wouldn't like this either...but if you have a crazy sweet tooth like me, this is like heaven on a plate.

So we settle the bill and hop on a bus to somewhere...and make our way to the Magic Kingdom for MNSSHP! I don't remember how we got there exactly...

We were so happy to be there and having so much fun that we literally took 2 pictures it was of our food that we ate around 11pm! Chicken Nuggets for me and some kind of chicken sandwich for Lumar from the Golden Oak Outpost in Frontierland:

IMG_20101019_203419.jpg

I know we left shortly after we ate but I took absolutely no notes. I know the first thing we did was Haunted Mansion. I think if Lumar waited any longer to get on that ride he was just gonna burst. But other than that and trick-or-treating, I have no idea what else we did for 4.5 hours. The candy was supposed to be a better assortment this year that it was last year but I got NO CHOCOLATE. Not ONE piece! I think I got about 426 lollipops, and a box of raisins. Lumar got a Twix bar, Starburst, a 3 Musketeers, a Milky Way, and a Snickers. So not fair! :snooty:

On our way back to the room I discover that I have a mosquito bite on my foot and it was itching me like crazy. We get back to the room and I start unpacking our luggage then we crash! Our first full day was coming up fast and we were headed to Epcot!

Stay tuned for more!

That dessert looks fantastic! I have a major sweet tooth, so I may have to try that sometime :teeth:

Poor Lumar - no socks! :lmao: Not that he needed any given the weather we had; so it was just as well you didn't pack them.

Those are some decent food porn shots from a cell phone! :thumbsup2

No socks:eek: I would have had to pull the car over into the Wal-Mart and get a new bag, I love new socks:woohoo:

You definitely should! It was fantastical!

Thanks! they came out much better than I thought they would!

This is how our conversation in the car went:

Me: You know what just occurred to me?

Lumar: What?

Me: Well, you know how this year I put all of our clothes into zip lock bags to make more room in the suitcase?

Lumar: Yes....

Me: Well, I don't remember bagging up any of your socks....

Lumar: What?!

Me: Yeah...I remember when they came out of the wash I sat on the bed and matched up a bunch of pairs...But I think I got distracted and never actually put them in the suitcase and when I got back to it later on I just threw them all in your drawer.

Lumar: Great....

Me: Do you want to stop at Walmart or Target really quick and buy a bag?

Lumar: No

Me: Then what are you gonna do for socks?

Lumar: Maybe I'll just wear flip-flops the whole trip

Me: That's not gonna happen and you know it. You hate flip flops!

*Silence*

Me: I guess you can just buy socks when we get there.

Lumar: As long as they have some that don't have Mickey on them.

*Silence*

Lumar: I like Mickey and all but I don't really need him to be plastered all over my socks.

Me: I'm sure they will have some that don't have Mickey on them.....

Famous last words.....;)

I warned you about that White Plains airport months ago! :rotfl: It's terrible! I'm so glad Jet Blue is flying out of Hartford now, in case I want to use them again instead of Southwest! At least you got a ride there, and didn't have to pay $150 to park like we did! :scared1:

CSR looks so pretty! I really want to stay there someday! I keep checking to see if there is any availability when I'm there, but it's booked! :confused3 Maybe next year! Yay for getting your requests!

That dessert sounds amazing...I love anything sweet! And I love cosmos, that's my drink that I order when I can't think of what I want!

Can't wait to read more! :)

hehehe loving the "no socks" conversation:laughing:
Im in and if those pics were from your cell phone they were pretty darn good. Glad to see your including some food porn as not having to cook for an entire weeks is one of the best things about going to the world for me. 9 more days for me so can't wait to read the rest of your TR:)

I can't believe you forgot Lumar's socks...you were so careful about packing ;)

I love your first CSR photo (can we go home now?????).

Your dessert looks very tempting...may have to give that one a whirl. We've never been to the restaurant but we thought of putting it on the list for a future trip.

I didn't get any chocolate either at the party.

Your TR is off to a great start. :)

First of all, nice title. :rotfl:

MNSSHP needs to stop with the raisins! I got like 20 boxes of raisins last year. I was not a happy camper lol.

I'm thinking about staying at CSR for my 2012 trip. So I'm looking forward to reading all about it :)

:upsidedowNO socks for Lumar. That's too funny, I always have that fear that I will forget something, something important at that. At least socks are something you can easily pick up. Packing for my 4 kids and husband, I usually forget something of mine. Great pics too, I love the pics of the resort and of the food. That food from Paradiso, looked fantastic and so tasty. I am so excited to hear more.

You DID warn me! My friend at work LOVES it and my mom fell in love with it just bringing us and picking us up! It's a lot closer for her than JFK or Laguardia or Bradley...so SHE liked it. I'll stick with Bradley now that JetBlue will be using them!

I have a ton of pics I took at CSR! It's beautful! I can't wait to get to our resort day so I can share them!

Cosmos are my favorite too! And that Chocolate Stack....:cloud9::cloud9::cloud9:

Thanks for joining in! Yes, those pics were from my cell (it's the original Droid through Verizon) and I was quite happy with how they came out! ITA about the no cooking thing! The food is my favorite part of vacation...well, that and the no-work part! :rotfl2:

I couldn't believe I forgot them either. Wait until you hear what happens when we revisit this....:rolleyes1

I want to go HOME, too!!!

I really liked Paradiso, A LOT! My sister and her boyfriend want to come with us next year and if they do, we are totally taking them to Paradiso 37. It was a great experience!

I thought the candy selection was supposed to BETTER this year?? :confused3

LOL Thanks! It's totally fitting for the overall story!

They do need to stop with the raisins! I only got one box but STILL! This is Halloween for Pete's sake!

At least you have a bunch of people to worry about so you have an excuse! How does someone who's only packing for 2 people forget SOCKS of all things?

One of my friends at work loves that airport too, which is why I decided to try it in May! You know what I hated the most about it? Baggage claim. They just throw all the bags from every flight on ONE carousel and you have to sift through like, 4 flights of luggage to find your bags, it sucked! :rotfl:

There was only one other flight that came in with us, so we didn't have any trouble with that. But the overall feeling to me was just "cramped." And $8 for an egg & cheese sandwich was just the icing on the cake!

Great start!

Lumar and I are clearly opposites. I have been known to forget socks on WDW trips on purpose, so I have an excuse to buy socks with Mickey or Minnie or Tinkerbell on them. I now probably have about 14 pairs of Disney socks. :rotfl:

That sucks that you didn't get any chocolate! At the 10/22 party, I got three mini Snickers and a Clarke bar. And Sixlets, though I'm not sure those count as chocolate, considered they're labeled "chocolate-flavored candy"!

We gave up on flying and drove down in Jan this year It realy was not to bad, and only cost us $280 round trip in the DW 09 nissan Cube. but flying is much faster.

I bought some either last year or the year before and I love them. I honestly don't know why he cares about his socks so much...In WDW no one cares, and at home he wears pants all the time so no one can see them!

OMG he LOVES Sixlets! Didn't get any of those either, though!

They do, they just have Minnie and Tinkerbell on them :teeth:

Pretty much! I tried to get him to buy those socks they sell in the Japan Pavilion that are made for wearing with clogs (the big toe is separated from the others) and he just kind of looked at me and walked back to the anime section.

I want to try the drive just once and see how we do. I can't convince Lumar to do it though. Maybe one of these trips!
