Blue Man Group Announcement

An expansion of Universal Orlando's City Walk complex will bring a new Broadway-style show to Orlando.

The Blue Man Group's Las Vegas based production company tells News 13 a similar show is coming to Universal Orlando.

The musical act features three bald men painted blue, who combine music with comedy in a unique theater experience. Currently, Blue Man Group shows are playing in New York, Berlin and London.

To accommodate the show, part of the inside of sound stage 18, the now shuttered Nickelodeon production facilities, will be converted into a state of the art theater.

The addition of the entertainment act is aimed at keeping higher-end entertainment dollars at Universal. They want to compete with Downtown Disney's Cirque Du Soleil production.

There is no word yet on when the Blue Man Group Universal Production is slated to open.

Universal will officially announce more details at a press conference Thursday morning.

I thought the announcement was on the 9th. That's what Screamscape had said. I can't find any info about it anywhere else.

Hi!

If you go here http://ivillagelive.ivillage.com/on_tv/about/0,,9s70klht,00.html

I think you may find it very interesting. It seems that NBC Universal and iviliage have teamed up and are starting a new show. When you reach this site, click on the slide show in the center it will explain the details of how this came about and what it's going to be.

I love UNIVERSAL! :)

so Im guessing that Ivillage is some kind of womens thing?

Yeah, it sounds like a lower budgeted rip-off of The View.

Well, that certainly is different. So it is like a daytime variety show that will run live at IOA's amphitheatre and be broadcast on NBC?

Sounds like it'll be aired on Bravo along with only a handful of NBC stations (in the major markets). If it's a success I would venture a guess that they will offer it to more NBC stations.

OOPS. I guess I was a day off with the announcement. I guess today is actually the 9th. Sorry about that.

The iVillage thing has been in the works now for about 2-3 months that I've known about it. I put in for a job with it to be the lead technician for IT but never got a call about it. It is suppose to be broadcast live.

I think I would rather have had them put a ride in there instead of a talk show. I don't really get how a talk show fits into the Islands of Adventure theme. Could they not have done this show in Citywalk and not take up space from the parks?

That's what I was thinking. Fans scream for thrill rides, yet they go and put a production show in IOA, and then BMG in the Nick Building. It's a way for them to toot their horn by saying they have something new in each park. If you had a poll, and the choices were a new ride, or a talk show, the ride will win.

The corporate crowd will say they're "family" attractions, and the company is doing best for the shareholders. That's the problem, the shareholders are nothing but big mutual fund companies and fickle investors. Wrong crowd to please. Build the B&M Flyer in Jurassic Park and make the customers happy.

An IVillage talk show is this "big" announcement??? No new ride, cool restaurant or new character introduction?

Sorry, but if I want to see a Martha Stewart type talk show, I'll head to NYC, not a theme park in Orlando whose focus is supposed to be rides and thrills.

Major, major dissapointment.

There is still supposed to be an announcement this morning yet. I tell you, it better be good because so far I'm not really impressed.

I agree, Damo. Gotta run here soon, but I'll check back and see what the third installment is this afternoon.

BMG would be neat -- DH & I are seeing them locally here on the 19th for their "Rock Tour" -- and I think it's a good idea to have an alternative to Cirque over at the Uni camp (sorry ... hooked on election coverage here, and my lingo is reflecting same). But even with BMG, I think it might be one of those things where once you've seen them, you probably won't want to spend the big $$$ to see the exact same show at the same venue again.

Anyway, hopefully the last announcement will be a new state-of-the-art ride or the Hulk walking around or a massive animatronic King Kong walking -- er, stomping around, rather, another restaurant even better than Mythos or something ... anything but another show :(
