Ok....so before this winter, I did lot of reading about whether or not to get cover for trailer and where rv and whether or not to remove snow from top. Based on reading and comments here, I decided against the cover. As far as snow off top, I hadn't asked on here. Snow removal seems to go about same as cover as far as who says "no, never had a problem" vs. "yes you should/i do". I have read the reasons for both ideas (damage to rubber roof cover, antennas, bubbles, etc vs. melting snow refreezing in cracks or other tiny openings making potential leaks etc). Up on my roof in summer I didn't see any areas around the seems with the dealer that looked compromised to me (it Is brand new trailer), so wasn't to worried. It is the arched roof, so at this point with 4-6 inches still up there, I am not worried about weight. (The literature for this line has a golf cart and 2 or 3 guys standing on roof to show strength of their build). So, bottom line, I am looking for experiences of others here...what do you do? Have you had issues after leaving snow that made you regret not taking it off. Just curious of real world from those on here. Thanks!!

As far as covers, I have had 2 fabric covers since buying the camper in 2012 and I say do not waste your money on them. This year I will buy a metal building or build my own shop to keep it under.

I think the sun is more damaging to them than anything else.

I saw a guy from a roofing company on the news the other day here in MA. He was saying that if you do remove the snow from your roof, you should not go all the way to bare roof. He says it will damage the roofing material and to just take some off the top to relieve the weight. Again, he was speaking about shingled houses, but it makes sense with rubber roofs too IMO.

I still have about 18" on top of my class C right now because a lot has blown off. We are getting more tonight and even worse it's going to turn to rain half through so it will be heavy when it re-freezes tomorrow as it's supposed to be 0* again. I tried to find a roof rake but they are sold out EVERYWHERE. Even Amazon had none available via Prime until April they say. So, it looks like it'll be a month or so before I find out if leaving the snow on is OK or not, lol. Honestly, I'm more concerned about the freezing in cracks as was mentioned than the weight. And, I think that would've been a worry regradless with the frigid temps we've had for so long now.

Can't say what I do, don't own a Rv, but, I have seen people up here that use tarps, or park them under a carport type of a cover that was built for the Rv. We have a couple of indoor storage places for Rv's here in Vermont. If I did have one I would take take a roof rake to get most of it off, being careful not to damage the top. But of course we get a couple feet of snow and a couple inches of ice every winter.

I have never removed the snow. I'm on my 3rd trailer and my current one is 12 years old. We have had over 15 inches of snow at one time and the roof did fine. I do scrub the roof and check all the caulking around fittings and sky lights every year. I've replaced the caulking around the antenna, skylights/vents and the plumbing vents twice. It seems to last 3-4 years before it gets hard and cracks.

I also never covered my camper, but after 12 years of sitting in the sun, the graphics are cracking badly. Much worse on the sunny side. I'm wondering now if a cover would have prevented that. Too late now. I'm looking for replacement graphics so they look nice next year when I sell it, but it's a thought for a new camper.

I have always left the snow go on top of mine. I do check the roof once spring rolls around and before the season ends. I would have to go out and remove the snow with a ladder and broom or snow rake and well the thought of being on a ladder in the ice and snow, worries me more. I have never had problems in the past doing things this way.

This is the first year that we've removed snow from ours. It just has been so much and we figured it wouldn't hurt taking the load off before we got more. That was before the last go-around...we haven't done anything since and we haven't been out to our storage lot to check. Once everything clears tomorrow we might go out just to have a look. Oh, and we covered our TT, but last year we ordered a cover for the C and it was backordered and never came in, and we just kind of let it go. The jury just seems to be out on covering, so we never really know. The one thing that a cover does, though, is keeps the wet from freezing around things like the AC and antennas and vents. Good sealant *should* protect those, but I think I might be feeling a bit better if at least the top was covered right now with the rain then refreeze coming, although we did have our sealants redone last year, so I guess I should feel OK.

We covered ours last yr but we just didn't get to it this yr! The weather seemed to be worse this yr! So there it sat in the snow, and sleet, and no cover! We live in TN & never had snow for very long or as much as the north. I just worried when everything began to freeze what it was doing to the roof.

4077, I've always covered mine for the winter, but more from the standpoint of it not being exposed to the sun, and protecting the sides from the errant snow that may come out of the snowblower if the wind is going that way. If your sealant is good on your roof, then freezing shouldn't be an issue. If you think about it, the roof probably takes a worser (worse) beating during the hot summer months.

1) Be aware!
2) Florida, and most other Southern States, have SEVERE PENALTIES for importing snow from Up North.
3) This could mean fines AND/OR jail time.
4) Suggling is a no-no, regardless how well intended your thoughts of ridding your neighborhood of excess snow.
5) You got it. Now, keep it.
6) After all, where would Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye careers be without the "white stuff"? Not to mention Rosemary and Vera-Ellen.
7) Or, Florida population growth without all the folks Escaping The White Stuff? *

* NOTE: It has been said that during President's Week, Orlando is New Jersey's second largest city.

Dang, and I was just about to ask for your address so I could send you some for old times sake.

I just still can't believe that horribly ugly white stuff falls from the sky...

I mean, what next? I suppose you are going to tell me the rivers freeze over, or you can drive across lakes and stuff. You Northerners have a wild imagination.

You think that's crazy?? Well, let me tell you, I like this next crazy part even better. It just goes away....begins to disappear like magic. And let me tell you, when it starts becoming less and less, I am dancing in the street yelling "I believe in magic!!"

No kidding! My 11 year old is seriously giddy, my dogs are nutsy, and I admit to a little dancing in the street! 40's baby!!! Some serious magic right here!

Like 4077 said, it just magically disappears. Funny thing is, water flows down hill, you should be getting in about a week.
Besides, where do you Southerners think your SNOW cones come from.

It's been in the 40s and 50s since Friday. The last of our snow is finally gone. I think it is due to all the extra day light we are getting since the time change. :sunny:

Depends on what your snow totals are when deciding. When you have had snow totals for the winter over 100" for the season you look at things a little differently.
