Up, down and all around...a trip we will NEVER forget - COMPLETE 1/19

Oh gosh - poor Henry! I can only imagine what you were going through! Glad you were still able to stay though. Those pictures of Henry with Mickey were hysterical! I'm with you on the food at Chef Mickey's though - not good. We used to hit that place every year for the character interaction; we're done with it now because it's just not worth the price anymore. It should be experienced at least once though!

Oh, and those Mickey kitchen items -- :lovestruc ! I swear, I want to buy them all! It's so darn cute but I just don't know how I would get it home on the plane!

What an update! Highs, lows, and vomiting!! The poor little guy, and poor mom and dad. What a way to start the trip.

I found Henry's "eh" attitude with the real Mickey to be hilarious!! It found me laughing out loud!

And thank you for the crazy adventure of sending my little guy a postcard! He needs a little extra reminder about being good in school these days... We've got some good stories to embarrass him on his first date, his graduation, his wedding... Yeah, we're showing no mercy!!

Okay, and how frustrating was your pack-n-play situation?! Grrrrrrrrrrrr.....

Oh, I hope it doesn't mean your first honeymoon was terrible! :sad2:

Our Honeymoon was great - it is all the drama that followed that made us decided to take a 2nd Honeymoon.:lovestruc

I'm so sorry that Henry got so sick. Bless his heart! It didn't seem to stop him though. You were so lucky to get such wonderful interaction from the characters. I am totally living vicariously through this report right now!

wow!!!

What a trip so far!!!!

I just love all your photos! You all look so great, And Especially mr handsome...!!! (Henry...sorry DH:) )

I love the Chef Mickey pics, so, so sorry abt Henry getting sick! But you will have great memories!! Well..you know what I mean!!!

Love the shirt:goodvibes Made me very happy:cloud9:

Great trip report!!!!:cheer2:

I'm so sorry Henry got sick, poor guy. It looks like you made the best out of it.

Your pictures are great! When we ate at Chef Mickey's we didn't have that much interaction with the characters, but the restaurant was packed. We had a wonderful time though. DS had a birthday we will never forget!

I don't think I will be doing a TR this time. I didn't get very many good photos. I think I need a better camera too. Here are my favorite photos:

Can't wait to here more about your trip!

Wow Brook!...just Wow!!

First off...this was the LAST time I'm going to read one of your updates, at work, while eating my lunch:scared1: I don't think I want to go for a third lunchbreak involving vomit stories:rotfl: ...I hope that you don't HAVE anymore vomit stories left, and poor little adorable Henry feels better in the morning!!

That said... I've always enjoyed Chef mickey's and the character interaction has always been great....but your experience there sounds SO far above and beyond ANYTHING I could have imagined!! It is so awesome:thumbsup2 that you all had such a great time!!

Boo for slow mousekeeping...not delivering the pack and play!! I wouldn't have tipped either....:headache: And like you I have a tendancy to be a generous tipper for excellent service!!

I can't wait (I think:rolleyes: ) to read about more of your (please be vomit-free) adventures!!

Paula

I totally agree about the bathroom being in a strange spot! I was wondering what was up with that.

You got lucky to be seated so quickly! We had an 8:10PM ADR and waited almost an hour to be seated! I was so irritated by the time they finally sat us! Especially since we were trying to make it to Poly for Wishes (and Nic's proposal, poor guy. He was even more stressed than me about the time!).

Aw, poor boys throwing up! I want to hug them both! That's always embarassing!

I missed Minnie too, when I went to the buffet.

Ugh, I'm SO glad my grandparents had a pack-n-play so we didn't have to deal with that.

Yikes! So sorry that the vomiting continued! :scared: Chef Mickey's is my favorite restaurant - we've had some great character interaction there - and I'm glad you did too. At least that made the situation a little better. Henry looks like he's having fun despite it all - isn't it amazing how kids can puke one minute than go right back to playing??

Now I hope that "Mom almost looses it..." doesn't mean losing YOUR lunch!

Wow, poor Henri!

I agree with you on the food at Chef Mickey's. We thought that the food was "ok" but not great. We also thought that the character interaction was great but yours sounds even better.

Poor Henry! And poor you! It's great that you were still able to enjoy Chef Mickey, but it would have been nicer if there had not been any need for you to be impressed by how professional the characters were dealing with your situation. I agree with you: you experienced some true Disney Magic!

I was hoping that the next installment would be more positive, but the title sounds scary!

I know, I felt so bad for my little guy-but he acted like it didn't even happen. He just kept reaching for that mac & cheese!

The next installment is not scary (or gross!) :goodvibes It's actually why I never want to stay at Pop again....

Yeah, I would give my kids to someone for awhile in a heartbeat to get away with DH. (Want a couple more boys for a weekend?)

:rotfl: At this point, I volunteer! I love hanging with kids and goofing around! Henry is really starting to be interactive and silly with us. I'm sure the "charm" of it will wear off as he learns to express his will more and more though!

Wow! now that was an update! So sorry Henry got sick and you had an oblivious waitress (and the poor boy in the bathroom, I bet he was mortified)

sounds though like despite the so-so food, chef Mickey's was an overwhelming success. I can't believe you stayed up so late after such an early morning!

Oh thank you for posting this. We purchased one for Daniel as a "when you are finally potty trained" bribery gift (Does that make sense)

It has disappeared somewhere and I don't have a clue where it could be . He liked to bring it places and could easily have left it anywhere. Then again, when he was naughty, it got taken away often and I may have "hid" it somewhere and have forgotten about it.

I was going to check Disney shopping to see if they have it.

Chef Mickey's was an EXCELLENT time, despite the beginning. It certainly made it easier that Henry didn't seem to care about the incident and just kept going and eating. Not one tear was shed-though I almost started crying from it all! ;)

We were just silly for staying up that late. Never-never-never again. (I say that now...but we'll see...:lmao:)

The monorail sets are so neat! And yes, the potty training gift makes perfect sense, glad it did the trick, I'll keep that in mind! I hope you are able to find one - they are at most every resort gift shop, so if Disneyshopping.com doesn't have one, recruit a DISer to pick one up for ya!

Oh you poor guys!!! Throwing up in public has to be the worst! Thankfully your night wasn't ruined by it, and you had great character interactions! I can't believe it took mousekeeping so long to deliver the pack n' play -- that would have driven me completely over the edge!!!

I love Mary Blair, too! Did you know there are two children's books out right now, Cinderella and Alice in Wonderland, that have her concept artwork for those two films?

I was so thankful Henry wasn't phased by it. He just kept going and enjoying that mac & cheese. The character interactions were incredible - everytime I look through the pictures they practically bring me to happy tears!

I didn't know that about Mary Blair! I'll have to look up those kids books, thanks for the tip!

You are an updating machine!! I love it! Let's see... what did I want to say:

AWESOME pictures. I also like the unique angles. Really great. I've been second-guessing the two nights I have booked at Pop and you are getting me excited to see it. Thanks!

H kissing his plush mickey is so adorable. And I am cracking up over the photos w/ him so focused on his mac and cheese that he was ignoring the real thing! I'm so glad that you had such great character interaction and that it turned the whole situation around for you!

Looking forward to more!!

Thank you for the compliments on the pictures and glad you are enjoying the updates! Pop is really, really fun. It's so unique and shiny, glittery, bright and just happy.

It was so funny to see Henry push Mickey away, I thought for sure he would give him a big 'ol kiss right away since he had loved on his plush so much already!! There was food though, nothing comes between that boy and food!

The whole night was really a big ball of emotion - but it turned out so nicely!

I was a WRECK. I was sorta nervous about the characters, not wanting to miss any, making sure Henry wasn't freaked out by them, getting food for him and me, getting pictures - then the whole throw up ordeal on top of it....and very little sleep. It was an interesting evening. Thankfully, Disney just makes everything better!

I agree that Chef Mickey's should be experienced at least once-it was a really neat dinner! I told Joe after we were leaving to be ready to dish out money again for that meal once Henry is old enough to realize it exists! The princess meals I'm thinkin' we can avoid, but the Hollywood & Vine, Crystal Palace and Chef Mickey's, those will be regulars in a few years.

I wanted to buy those kitchen items too! They are adorable!!

It was an interesting way to start the trip. Thankfully we were able to laugh about it, even in the moment!

You are very welcome on the postcard! You'll have to tell me about his response when he gets it-I (pathetically) tried to write like Mickey on the note too. I know mail from there can take forever, and I didn't get around to mailing it until the last day. I meant to every day, but kept forgetting it in the room. :headache: And that is hilarious about all your stories you will have for when he's older! Are you documenting them somewhere so he can look back and laugh (or be completely mortified)?

The Pack & Play deal was so frustrating and annoying. If it wasn't crucial for a baby to sleep, then it wouldn't have been such a big deal. Like towels, whatever, I can make do-but a BABY'S BED? Gah. But, at least it came, and quickly after the fourth request!

Our Honeymoon was great - it is all the drama that followed that made us decided to take a 2nd Honeymoon.

I'm so sorry that Henry got so sick. Bless his heart! It didn't seem to stop him though. You were so lucky to get such wonderful interaction from the characters. I am totally living vicariously through this report right now!

Oh...now you've really got me curious! I hope I find time SOON to read your PTR!

The sickness totally didn't stop Henry. He was such a good little guy, I don't know if he felt icky too, or if it was just a reaction to something, or what. :confused3

Isn't the DIS wonderful so you can read TRs and dream of what your trip will be like? I loooooove that!

wow!!!

What a trip so far!!!!

I just love all your photos! You all look so great, And Especially mr handsome...!!! (Henry...sorry DH)

I love the Chef Mickey pics, so, so sorry abt Henry getting sick! But you will have great memories!! Well..you know what I mean!!!

Love the shirt. Made me very happy

Great trip report!!!!

He looked SO CUTE in that shirt! And I was happy to get shots of it WITH characters! I had hoped it would be clean for later in the week too...but well... I guess we'll just have to book another trip before he out grows it!

Yes, the memories from Chef Mickey's are ones we will never-ever forget. In 5 years, "Remember our first trip to Chef Mickey's?" followed by laughter and rolling eyes...

I LOVE YOUR PICTURES! Sooooooo cute! I can tell your DD was having such a blast! So precious. Is that fountain at SSR? It looks so fun!

And how neat to have a birthday at Chef Mickey's and have all the characters attend your party! :dance3: That would be incredible for a little kid!

Bummer about not doing a TR and the pictures though. :guilty: Hopefully you will have a new one for your next trip! Feel free to share any other ones on here if you would like, I love looking at other people's pics and hearing their adventures!

Wow Brook!...just Wow!!

I can't wait (I think:rolleyes: ) to read about more of your (please be vomit-free) adventures!!

Paula

:lmao: :rotfl: Sorry about the vomit stories! I'll will say there is ONE more. :scared: It's not quite as bad though. I think.

After the next one, then we are DONE...with vomit. ;) Seriously, this is a trip we will never forget. I even debated on skipping all the "downs" and just pretending they didn't happen, but then, really, that is what makes a trip a trip! All the craziness!! The next update will NOT have anything bad in it - I promise! :goodvibes

The experience at Chef Mickey's was just awesome. I know I have read stories of the characters just breezing by for a quick picture, so that is what I was expecting and was amazed that they kept coming back and really played with us!!

More adventures coming soon-the next one is vomit free! :cheer2: It's hilarious to write that...oh what a trip we had!:rotfl2:

It is silly that the bathroom was downstairs...in a kids resturant! :confused3

That is awful about having to wait an hour! I forgot about that from your TR. Poor Nic on the proposal, ugh, he must have been a wreck about all that!

It would be nice to just bring a Pack & Play with us next time, but with all these baggage fees, we'll just have to deal. Hopefully we won't have to go through anything to quite this extent again though!

Yikes! So sorry that the vomiting continued! Chef Mickey's is my favorite restaurant - we've had some great character interaction there - and I'm glad you did too. At least that made the situation a little better. Henry looks like he's having fun despite it all - isn't it amazing how kids can puke one minute than go right back to playing??

Now I hope that "Mom almost looses it..." doesn't mean losing YOUR lunch!

The character interaction did make everything better, it helped both Joe and I feel better about everything. Henry had such a good time! And yep, he totally didn't even flinch at the throw up - just kept right on going!

And no worries, the next update is VOMIT-FREE. :goodvibes

Wow, poor Henri!

I agree with you on the food at Chef Mickey's. We thought that the food was "ok" but not great. We also thought that the character interaction was great but yours sounds even better.

I was amazed at the character interaction...it must have been because it was closing, or word was passed around about our situation. Or just for some reason, we got some major PD that night! Whatever it was, we were very grateful.

We don't plan to return, despite the excellent time, until Henry realizes it exists though. We want good food for that price!

Next update might come tomorrow - I don't think I have enough energy to get one up tonight yet...but, as I said above a couple times, it is VOMIT-FREE!!!!!!!! everyone rejoice! :yay: :rotfl:

SHOPPED of course!
More stuff I didn’t buy.

IMG_1333Small.jpg

Sometimes there is a price to pay for reading other people's reports. I have a Mickey colander, and I use it often. Mine is red, however, and I like the plain silver better. Why did you have to go and show me that one? The red one doesn't go with my kitchen, so the plain one would look better sitting out. You may have just cost me some money.

I'm glad you enjoyed the character interaction at Chef Mickey's. They were very sweet with Brooklynn, too, when we celebrated her one year old birthday. We've only eaten there for breakfast, but we're having Thanksgiving dinner there next week. I'm hoping Chef kMickey knows his stuff when it comes to stuffing - and turkey and sweet potatoes and green beans and everything else. I'm not worried a bit about the desserts. I'm rarely disappointed in a Disney dessert.

kschafer - You should try to find your monorail, put a little tiny wreath on the front of it, and let it circle around your Christmas tree! :santa:

I was thinking if I can manage to get one to replace Daniel's lost one, I will set it up around the tree so it is going when we return home after Christmas. Unfortunately Disneyshopping.com does not have it (I was really hoping to use the 25% off plus the 15% Visa Discount!). I'll figure something out, maybe e-bay

Oh, and MeMom, that colandar was almost the only kitchen item I bought myself. I don't know why it calls my name so much!

Just signing on! Since Jay was kind enough to send you over to my TR, I followed her advise and came to yours. I'm so glad I did, you have a very entertaining writing style and Henry is absolutely adorable!

Looking forward to more!

I just caught up on your TR.....we were there the week before you with our 17 mo old son. We also went to Chef Mickeys....I think you had the better experience there even with all the vomit!

Looking forward to more.

I hope Chef Mickey knows his Thanksgiving dinner well too! It would be a lot of fun to be there with all the characters for a holiday dinner. Maybe they will even have pumpkin pie!

I LOVE the idea about the monorail, with the wreath, around the Christmas tree! If I tell Joe about that, I'm sure he'll have me hunting it down in time for Christmas.

Oh, I hope you find one!! He will be so surprised...and it will look so cute around the tree!

That colander calls everyones name I think, it's just stinkin' cute.

Hi there! Glad you came over! I have your California Adventure bookmarked on my computer so someday when we plan ours I will be re-reading and taking notes! It was such an awesome trip!!!

And can you get over Jay's?!?! Man, her trips are always blow-me-down amazing.

I just caught up on your TR.....we were there the week before you with our 17 mo old son. We also went to Chef Mickeys....I think you had the better experience there even with all the vomit!

Looking forward to more.

Welcome!!!! How did your little guy like all the characters at Chef Mickeys? I am subscribed now to your TR, but haven't gotten a chance to read yet...hopefully soon!

I've caught up again after being MIA for a few days, being sick really interferes with my DISing!

Henry is just adorable and I love his name, it's always been on my favorite boy names. Poor little guy with being sick but it didn't seem to phase him at all. I hope that is the last time he is sick while on your trip.

I haven't tried Chef Mickey's yet but it sounds like you had a great experience there. :goodvibes

Love all the awesome photos of Pop, you got some very unique shots and I love the family picture.

I already know this will be broken into a few different posts due to the obsessive amount of pictures... :goodvibes

I left off when we were ending day one, falling asleep in a nanosecond.

Henry was our alarm clock the next morning, we woke up to him babbling to himself and peeking over the top of the Pack & Play. It was adorable seeing his smiling face peering over the side. :goodvibes Joe pulled him into bed with him while I got up to shower.

My boys!

After everyone was ready I called Bell Services to come and get our bags. They said we could leave them in the room while we went to get breakfast and head over to the Wilderness Lodge to check in. Gotta love that! :thumbsup2

We packed everything up, and I left a nice tip on the luggage for the Bell People, we sadly said good-bye to our 50's room and our 50’s building and headed onward to Everything Pop. My stomach was grumbling. I am a BIG breakfast eater, so by the time we made it there I was almost eating my arm. I was so ready for a nice breakfast with my family.

We entered Classic Hall, made our way through the gift shop and my jaw dropped. I think everyone and their Uncle was eating breakfast at that same exact time! HOLY MADNESS!!!!!!!!!! The lines stretched at every station, it was noisy and kids were everywhere. You couldn’t walk 2 feet without having to stop because someone was crossing your path.

We made our way through the insanity and I read the monitors to Joe again. He opted for a Pop Waffle with sausage

IMG_1478Small.jpg

and I got my favorite breakfast, yogurt, fruit and granola.
IMG_1480Small.jpg

Joe also got a cappuccino. I, amazingly, did not order coffee, but was just going to opt for the nasty Nescafe and save a buck since we weren't on the DDP yet. It was about this time I realized my sunglasses were missing. I laughed to myself because I have read a lot of TRs lately where DISers (or DISkids) were loosing their sunglasses. I guess I just had to be part of the crowd.

We are pushing a stroller, balancing a tray with food and milk on it, and carrying two refillable mugs. Along with this we have our shoulder bags and a diaper bag. In the midst of the entire guest count of Pop Century.

We made it through.

Now, let’s find a table. A clean one preferably.

If I thought the food area was nutty, the table area was 10 times worse. Every table I could see that was even remotely easy to get to with our stroller was taken. There were kids half pushed into tables and getting up and running around all over the place. I scan the place and finally spot a clean looking table that we go for. I have to navigate around a huge table of people with kids and bags everywhere.

Now, I am not against big family gatherings and I understand kids just don’t sit still, especially at Disney World for pete’s sake! But, this was just too much for me. I about lost it by the time we got to our table. I need low-key. This was faaaaaaaaaar from. I think if I went back in with the knowledge that breakfast would not be a peaceful meal I could deal-but I just wasn’t prepared for it that day. :sad2:

We sat down and I had to get back up almost instantly to get my coffee-we had not stopped at the beverage station because it was so crowded and I didn’t want to deal with it with the stroller. I went through the maze-o-tables/chairs/children and filled the mug with the fake-coffee they call Nescafe. ;)

Back to the table where Joe was patiently waiting for me until we had an adequate picture of his waffle….well, he had ripped off a small piece for Henry who was screeching at this point knowing food was so close. :rotfl:

Our food was good-Joe’s waffle was cool by the time he got to eat it, but we all approved of the meal. Henry really enjoyed my yogurt/fruit parfait. Joe said he wasn't feeling well and didn’t finish his cappuccino, so I took one for the team and polished it off.

This picture doesn’t fit in with the story very well, but it’s too cute. Since Henry had hated his sandals the night before, I opted for his Cars Crocs. Stinkin’ cute.

IMG_1481Small.jpg

After breakfast we went back to the lobby and slowly walked through looking at the shadow boxes. While we were eager to get to the WL, we also wanted to savor a few more moments at Pop. We really liked the nerd shadow box.

IMG_1482Small.jpg

We actually own the computer in the upper right hand corner still. It's a vintage Mac. It still works! Oregon Trial anyone?

Onto the bus we went, we went to MK and then a bus to the WL, which was very quick. As we got off the bus and started to walk toward the lobby, we took a path that winds around the front of the hotel. I breathed in deep and smelled the wildflowers and felt my entire body relax. :cloud9:

Ahhhhhhh. Now this I can handle!

I also realized at that moment I never wanted to stay at Pop again...I just don't know if I could handle the insanity. I am officially a Deluxe Snob. :snooty: :sad2:  (I say this now...we'll see what the future holds though!)

We got to the check-in desk where the woman instantly wished us a “Happy Anniversary!” and pulled out buttons for us. She said our room was not ready, but we had a very nice one-with a view of the pool and the lake. I had requested “inner courtyard” and was hoping for one of the “Bear Face” rooms, this sounded very promising!

We spent a few minutes in the lobby, in a little area with cute kid rocking chairs and a TV. We organized the paperwork, put on our pins and then were off to explore the resort a bit. Our plans were to head to Epcot to “eat around the World”, but we were in no rush.

It was during this time that I fell in love with the WL. It’s amazing. Beautiful and peaceful. (see above pictures! ;))

Eventually we made our way down to the bus and headed toward Epcot.

Up next: Let’s eat! Or maybe not?

I completely agree with you about the chaos of Pop to the serene calm of Wilderness Lodge. We spent 4 nights at Pop and 3 nights at WL last trip and WL was so much more relaxing. The Pop food court had me on edge everytime we went in there. :lmao: It will be awhile before I go back to Pop. Enough time for me to forget the chaos. ;)
