Unusually Hot Weather

I just checked my weather.com app - it's 104 degrees right now at Disneyland! Hoping it will cool down a bit by my trip in two weeks. But I'm prepped with my battery operated fans and my cooling towel. Maybe the extreme heat will discourage locals from going to DLR. I sure can't change my trip, but maybe the crowds will be a little lower.

As a local, I can tell you that there's no way I'd go when it's 104 degrees...unless it was for the date I bought my MHP tickets for. But I also know that there are others who are way more diehard than I am, and they will go no matter the weather. I just figure I can go anytime, so why bother going when it's so miserably uncomfortable?

Wow! I'm curious with this extended high heat days what it might be like when we are there in 2 months. I was worried that it might be a colder trip than unusual, but now I'm not so sure!

Honestly, with California it can go from the floor is lava hot to I just think I saw a penguin tip it's hat to me as it walked by cold. Since you are a couple months out, I wouldn't worry too much. Historically October is typically dry for California and it's common to have a potential heat wave hit up till the end of the month.

I am also local and right now it is 101. No way am I going to Disneyland any time soon. Thirty degrees cooler more like it. I know even in parking lots the asphalt and concrete add heat and that is in a tiny area compared to DL. Please take care everyone, especially those of you at the parks.

When it comes to heat, here's the best advice you'll hear. Those battery operated mister fans they sell at the parks.....WORTH EVERY PENNY!!! We used one on a very warm June day this summer. It made everything waaaayyyy better. If you're hot and see one of these for sale, get it.

Plus, ask for a cup of ice from a CS restaurant and load that into the fan!! A very nice CM taught me that trick last month and it really did improve the temperature of the water, and thusly the temperature of ME!

cold is pushed down from the north, El Nino this year will be the stronger push, Here in Oregon we have yet to reach our normal 48 degrees on the west side, back to 75 degrees this time next week. all fingers crossed for rain,as we have not had any rain for plants since May first. So this could be a warm winter.

^^^what they said. There's no way I'd subject myself to melting at DLR with those temps. I'll consider going during the morning and leave by lunch time but I wouldn't stay any longer than that.

We are arriving from Texas tomorrow and we really haven't started our cool fall weather yet and it's supposed to be in upper 90s here this weekend as well so, meh, at least at Disneyland we'll have a pool!!

For those coming out, if you're wearing shoes & socks, I understand that changing them halfway through the day offers some relief. Be sure to hydrate. You can get free cups of ice, but cannot refill your water bottles. You might want to freeze your water bottle so that during the day you'll have cool water. Think about wearing a hat/cap to keep the sun off your head. I bought a straw hat at Disneyland a couple of years ago, and it has definitely helped me. I used to get headaches from the heat (usually when I woke up the next day), and keeping the sun off my head helps.

This is actually not even the hottest it has been at this time of year in the past. It has been hotter in October. This year we have been smacked with a lot of very unpleasant humidity too -- to the point where there can be very little cool down at night, and it feels like sauna air.

I always say, I don't really begin to detect a noticeable shift to "Fall weather" until sometime in November. And "Fall weather" in SoCal means anything under 77 degrees, lasting for more than a few days in a row! Last week there was a day of very pleasant 67-degree weather, topping out at 71 degrees, and it did not last. The sun is so harsh. I don't go to DLR on days when it's hot like that either. I know my limitations and I will get ill, so I avoid it.

We are finishing up a 5 day stay and I am.sitting here at the Hungry Bear while my DD is paddling a canoe. So, there must be varying degrees of what people consider hot. Personally, this week has been excruciatingly hot and the crowds have not helped a bit. Today's CHOC Walk crowds have been the absolute busiest of the trip ,so there are obviously many locals who have no qualms about coming to the Parks in this heat.

The only saving graces have been our misting fans and the GCH pool. Never have I been happier for a short walk to salvation!

For those of you still heading to the parks, wear sandals, take lots of breaks in the A/C. Pizza Port has a great "outdoor" type area with A/C that you can rest in. They allow for full cups of free ice water there.

I don't know about this past September, but I vividly remember 2010, when it reached something like 113 or 115 degrees in Downtown L.A. -- the hottest day in the history of recorded weather for Downtown L.A. -- and it climbed up to at least 118 degrees in Anaheim, if not higher. A full month may be warmer on a whole or on average, but random weeks or days within that month may be exceedingly hot, and hotter than those same days and weeks of the same month in another year.

I used Accuweather.com. It seemed to be pretty accurate. Although once I see temps above 95, I just start to cry. So, my tears may have obscured the screen.

We are WDW veterans and this is only our second trip to DL. We are on our 6th day here and it is unbearably hot. One of the main reasons I say unbearably is because DL does not handle heat well, at all. I am not sure if they are just not used to heat like this or what the deal is.

WDW has so many places to escape the heat. Even a lot of the ride queues are places to escape the heat. DL has the majority of their queues outside with no fans or any way to cool off. Nearly all the places to eat have only outside seating or very small places inside to eat.

I wonder why this is? I mean, both places get hot so why would Disneyland/CA not plan for this? Anyone have an idea?

Despite this we are loving DL/CA and plan to come back next August, and will be more prepared for the heat.

When visited the parks in Sept. of last year it was 99-101 for 5 of the 6 days we were there. We're from Hawaii and are used to humidity and sun...but it was unbearable at times. The suggestions from a previous poster about the fans is spot on. They are worth every penny and actually a little cheaper in DCA. We used the cooling towels, esp. in the afternoons and headed to wet rides and indoor rides when the heat was the worst. We still had a blast and its doable...just keep hydrated, rest, and stay cool.

I would have thought the locals would have stayed home too being as they can go anytime. Why go when it's miserably hot and humid? But, we've been here the past two days and lots of locals. It has been very hot and humid which is what we have in Tn and Fl so pretty disappointed but we're here and making the best of it. I'd rather be at DL than at home and have the same weather.
Those of you who have venous insufficiency, be wary as well. With the heat, humidity, and walking, my legs and ankles have swollen, painful, and red for the last couple of days. Had to come back to hotel early today to elevate.
