Unusually Hot Weather

I wanted to post for those of you who may be coming in to visit from out of town. We are having unusually HOT weather for this time of year. Tomorrow (Friday), the temps are supposed to hit 101 degrees at DLR. It will be in the high 90's on Saturday, and the low- to mid- 90's for a few days after that. It will taper off mid-week, and (thankfully, as we have MHP on Friday!) be in the low 80's by the end of the week.

Those of us who live around here obviously know that it's HOT, but I wanted to post in case some out-of-town folks have not been watching the reports. It's brutal!

After reading the Dis boards about the heat and humidity, I followed people's advice about getting those cooling towels. It was money well spent! I was also very happy that we were staying at the GCH because it was very easy to walk back to the room to cool off and ice our feet.

What about evenings? I see the forecast is showing upper 60s for most nights next week. Does it cool off quickly after the sun goes down? We plan to be in the parks until 8:30-9 the first few days and I'm wondering if I'll be OK just bringing sweatshirts in my backpack for us to layer over shorts and t-shirts. Thursday and Friday will be later nights for us so I'll use the first few days to gauge whether we'll need pants too for those nights.

Thanks for the advice!!

On the 100 degree days, it really doesn't cool off until around 7:00-8:00 at night...and even then, just into the 80's. I guess it depends on what your tolerance is for "cold". I would be fine in shorts and a sweatshirt, but I suppose some people might think the mid-60's is too cold for that attire.

*sigh* I planned to come during fall to beat the heat in Australia. We too are having an unseasonably hot start to spring, so guess it shall be similar. At least I will be able to make use of the awesome hotel pool facilities!!

We are Minnesotans so we can probably tolerate more than most. I'm betting we will be fine with shorts and sweatshirts unless it really turns off cooler for the last couple nights of the week. Thanks for the insight.

When we were there in September 2012 it was 110 degrees for a good part of our trip. :crazy2:

It really wouldn't cool down that much and we could wear shorts and t shirts late at night and early in the mornings.

This fall in So Cal has been very similar to 2012 with the multiple heat waves passing through every two weeks or so.

Thank you for this post!

It's going up to 21 degrees (69.8 F) today, very different! No need for jeans, hey?
We leave tomorrow at 6am - can't wait!!

We were there last week (when the highs were in the upper 80s) and it started to cool off after about 4pm but I never once needed a cardigan or hoodie in the evenings. We're from North Carolina so the humidity didn't seem bad to me at all, but man that SoCal sun will beat down on you hard. Bring your sunscreen!!

We were there last weekend, it was a little cooler (mid 80's) and a little rainy on Sunday but I was still fine in shorts and a t-shirt until we left around 11 Saturday night. I would bring sweatshirts and just store them in a locker so you can get to them if you need them, but I don't think you will.

We were in DL yesterday. It was hot of course and the night was a relief from the heat. Sweatshirts not needed. We were in shorts and tank tops - no problem at all.

When it comes to heat, here's the best advice you'll hear. Those battery operated mister fans they sell at the parks.....WORTH EVERY PENNY!!! We used one on a very warm June day this summer. It made everything waaaayyyy better. If you're hot and see one of these for sale, get it.

I keep checking accuweather and weather channel for our trip in 8 days :-) and both say low-mid 80's. But our arrival day will be in the 90's! Coming from the mountains where it is 54F right now (sunny but cool) 80's will be toasty for us, 90's would be unbearable (ok, almost unbearable since we will be at Disney, Dole Whip in hand at all times).

We're staying at DLH. Should we pack jackets or sweatshirts in a park bag or just walk back to the hotel if we need them? I know it's going to be hot but it can't be any worse than TN where our humidity is a nightmare. I am hoping to at least get away from the humidity.

I honestly don't think you'll need them at all. I would leave them at the hotel or put them in a locker at the parks. The humidity is currently low but a more humid spell is supposed to move in Tues/Wed but it will be a little bit cooler then.

I agree that you probably won't need them at all. If it were me and I *really* thought I'd need the jackets, I'd put them in a locker rather than walking back to DLH to get them. I don't like to carry extra stuff around all day (especially when it's so hot out!), and I also don't like to take the time and energy to walk to the hotel just to get a jacket.

Wow! I'm curious with this extended high heat days what it might be like when we are there in 2 months. I was worried that it might be a colder trip than unusual, but now I'm not so sure!

We just got back last week, and couldn't believe how hot and humid it was! We usually only go in mid-October or December, so that heat was definitely a shock to the system! It was in the upper-80's to the mid-90s all throughout our trip. Now I look and it's supposed to be the same or hotter (tomorrow is supposed to be 100!!!). I pity anyone who is there right now...
