Unusual things your kids love or enjoy...

I thought of this thread yesterday. Because of the original post, I decided to introduce my nieces to "Singin' in the Rain". They loved it, and I gave them the DVD & CD for Christmas. They came to visit me yesterday, asked me to put the CD on, and acted out some of the songs! They know every word. It was great. I have to figure what musical to introduce them to next. :thumbsup2

They may like Gigi..that is one of my and dd's favorites!
Also..My Fair Lady, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Oklahoma, Meet Me In Saint Louis, or the Music Man.

My dd also likes The Unsinkable Molly Brown!

There are so many good ones to choose from.

Oh..almost forgot DS LOVES 1776 the musical! LOL

Music man would work---our daughters like that one as well.

He's sending us Annie Get your gun next. Convinced they would like it. :confused3 We shall see!

They do love Oklahoma. Their mom plays violin & is in the orchestra of a local community theater & that was last spring's show. They know every word of that one.

But I think I'll try Music Man or Seven Brides. Those are 2 of my favorites. I tried 1776 last year, but they are kind of young (7 & 3) & there is a lot more talking in that than in most musicals. (But it is one of my absolute favorite movies of all time--I'll wait a little bit & try again).

Great suggestions--I'll try them!

My ds (9) is into The History Channel. Big time. There are times when he'd rather watch Modern Marvels than The Disney Channel. He is especially fascinated with Teddy Roosevelt. His imaginative play usually centers around Civil War soldiers or some other similar subject. He sat on the edge of his seat during The American Adventure in Epcot!

My dd (7) loves to make "projects" out of scrap materials. Give her a pipe cleaner, some yarn, an egg carton, and glue and that'll keep her busy for hours! Maybe this isn't that unusual for the families who post here, but she is also obsessed with finding Hidden Mickeys. She finds them everywhere, from in her Cheerios bowl to clouds in the sky. Dd is the QUEEN of spotting Hidden Mickeys.

When DSwas11(now 17)... not that he didn't like Micky d's but... he would crave sushi! Well out here in the sticks it's about a 2 hr round trip. What's a Mom to say??? I'd do my errands down that way & we'd go for sushi, which he'd happily munch with great chopstick dexterity--he still wants his birthday dinners at the sushi spot
DS17's musical tastes are strictly bagpipes & marching music (& comic songs like Weird Al, Animaniacs, etc)
Geez, a few hrs of bagpiping tattoos ringing through the house :scared:
Patrick can quote vast amounts of dialogue from Monty Python movies, A Christmas Story & Yellowbeard & Blackadder..and has done from a tender age
When I would drive DS & his friends, they would roll down the car windows & yell nonsense Spanish to passers by. Things like (en Espagnole), "Your cheese is on fire!" "Please dance to the shiny dog"... your school tax dollars in action!

I see you & Brier Rose had the same thought! I think I'll try that one.

I've never seen Annie get your gun.

my kids love SALMON... for both of their birthday dinners they chose SALMON.

When I taught kindergarten at a year round childcare center, in the summer we'd try to do themes just for "fun". One of the kid's favorites every year was the musical unit. All week I'd play loads of broadway musical numbers for them, then at the end of the week, I'd bring in clips from The Sound of Music, Annie, Singin' In the Rain, Gigi, Meet Me In St. Louis, Oliver, and My Fair Lady. They loved it and it was a lot of fun.

The oddest thing my kids are into is creepy stuff. DD 6 is my "Goth girl" and loves monsters, skeletons, and anything macabre. No worries about the Haunted Mansion for her. She adored it. :hmghost:

DD5 loves to clean windows. She sees the Windex come out and runs for the paper towels to clean. I'm not allowed near them. :rotfl2:

I should rent her out! I could make a fortune! :teeth:

My DD 10 (Happy Birthday....sweetie :bday: ) loves the movie and soundtrack to "Annie " She also is crazy about "chickens"...we sometimes call her the "chicken girl"! At her birthday party yesterday she got 2 chicken related gifts from her girlfriends...its alot of fun as she starts her "chicken collection"!!!!

My 4 year old loves to garden. Not just play in the dirt and "help". He goes to the store, selects plants, plants them (with a little help from me), and he will do all the weeding and the watering. I can pretty much sit on the deck with a cold drink and just supervise. :teeth: Today when we were out watering, he informed me that the strawberries needed a little plant food, and made me confirm a time with him when we would do that. :confused3

My DS7 LOVES tofu. Not when I make it unfortunatly, but anytime we go to an Asiain restaurant that's what he orders. He also loves shows like Dateline, 48 Hours and 20/20. He'll stop whatever he's doing when I tell him one of those shows is on.

Oh, and a recent obsession...My stepdad was listening to the Beatles "Revolver" CD in the car and DS fell in love with the sound of the sitar (sp?) at the begining of one of the songs. He's been playing the CD over and over on his headphones all weekend. He wants to learn to play now lol.

When my oldest DD was 3 her favorite movie was "Mary Popins" However the person she liked the most was Mrs. Banks. When I came home from the hosptial with her baby sister she would steal the plasic infatable ring I had to sit on (ouch) on her head and wear long gloves. She would dance around the house and say she was the "sholder girl" It took me a while it figure out she meant Mrs. banks in the Sister Suferagate (sp?) song. :rotfl: :rotfl:

She also loves Braunschweker and tuna fish (not together.)

When she was 2 years old she would cry like crazy when anyone sang "Happy Birthday." It freaked her out.

Lately she has been going around the house singing "I like to move it, move it." from the Madagasgar movie. She didn't care too much for the whole movie, but loves that song. :)

Almost everything about my sweetpea is a bit quirky. Its the quirks that make her special though. She's an adult trapped in a little body sometimes. She watches the news and listens to talk radio (proabably one of the few kids who can recognize Jon and Ken). Loves to use chop sticks and watches football. Is addicted to reality shows and treats her dog as if it was her kid. She hopes to one day grow up and become an artist and teach math. Yep, shes quirky.

One quirk that I constantly laugh about is my nephew's fave song is Shania Twain's "Man I feel like a woman" He is 10 now, but when the song first came out he was quite young. He would sing it at the top of his lungs. Nothing quite as amusing as seeing that little boy dancing around and singing like no one was listening....."Man, I feel like a woman.....woohoo!"

My DS8 loves the Food Network channel. That is all he wants to watch.

DD21 mths is very particular about everything. She can't stand for anyone to leave their shoes out.But she will NOT put them in your closet. She follows the person who left their shoes out singing the "clean up" song from Barney until he/she puts them up.No matter how long it takes.

My kids both love old Johnny Cash songs.

Now me, I'm ready to throw the cd out the window...but hey, I guess it is better than gangster rap.

No kids of my own yet, but I've been a child care provider since I was in college, and I've had some funny kids with quirky interests, but the one that tops them all is the little boy I called "my trash child". This little boy, Z., was completely fascinated with all things related to trash. Trash cans, trash trucks, dumpsters, recycling, etc....

Other kids go to the park to play on the swings or the slide, Z. went to the park to find things to put in the "big green dumpster". His hero was the garbage men, his favorite TV character was of course Oscar the Grouch who lived in a trash can and was carried around by a trash man. His favorite game was pretending he was the trash collector by walking around the house and putting things in one of his dozen assorted trash cans and then dumping the contents into the papasan chair and pretending we were "grinding up the trash in the trash truck".
Every Wednesday afternoon, rain or shine, freezing or roasting, I would pick him up and we would walk around the neighborhood, find the garbage truck, and follow it for a couple hours, much to Z.'s complete delight. He was such a funny, quirky kid! I have a million stories about Z., my little trash child. Of course, he's in high school now and would be horrified to hear any of them... ;)

I just might win this contest. Oh, it's not a contest? Just for fun? Well enjoy this....

Both my kids DD11 & DS8 totally LOVE going to the dentist. :confused3

Yep, you heard me right. Kinda helps that they've never had any problems, but still... it's weird.
