Unusual Substitutions

After placing my order on the breakfast thread, I thought turkey bacon sounded good so I fried some up to make a sandwich. But I couldn't find any lettuce....just shredded cabbage. Bacon, cabbage, and mayo on wheat bread really isn't that bad!

What unusual substitutions have you tried that you felt were successful?

I was once out of sweetener and milk for my coffee, so I put in some hot chocolate mix. It was OK. I think it would have been better if I would have had the milk to add to it though.

This was many years ago...I wanted to make myself a fried egg sandwich and it was after I had the eggs cooking that I realized we were out of bread, but had lots of flour tortillas, so I made a sort of lunch burrito, it was delicious!

when we were growing up my mother had this strange love of iceberg lettuce. Other people would make sure they had milk, bread, pop and TP when the snow was coming, but my mom always had to have iceberg lettuce. Well she would send my dad to the store and he would always, I mean always bring home a head of cabbage. I often wondered if he did it on purpose just to annoy her!!
