Unusual spelling of names?

I have one of those names that can be spelled a lot of different ways. I'm and Elyse, but have seen it is Elise, Alise, and Alyse. I've pretty much never had anything with my name on it, because everything always has the Elise spelling (to be fair, that is the more traditional spelling.)

I always have to spell it out for people. Well, actually, they will say to me "elIse?" and I say no, it's a Y. On the weird side...it gets pronounced wrong ALL THE TIME. I cannot tell you how many times i've had someone call me Elsie. Not really sure how you get the pronunciation el-see out the letters e-l-y-s-e.

DD18's middle name is Elyce - pronounced "Ee-leese". It is her grandma's middle name (my mom) as well.

I'm a Sarah and I do the same thing. :goodvibes

Disclaimer:....it's REALLY spelled CKgylhnm, but I didn't want to confuse anyone....popcorn::
I know your just waiting to see if someone asked you if your parents had a bad cold when spelling this!:rotfl:

My first one has a very normal name, but got shortened the "Chip". My then hubby wanted to name the second boy "Mickey". Figured he'd hate it by 2nd (in Kindergarden became Michael, then Mike in 1st). Problem...his last name is Tison, which beame a further bproblem when he was in 2nd and the other one bit off that guys ear. <sigh>

My last two became a bit difficult even though they are normal names,
Jeffery and Krista. Jeff wasn't a Jeff-ray but jeff-er-ee sounding. Oh well!
:cloud9:

About a year ago I "adopted" my doggie from a young couple. They told me his name was Khacee. When we got him home and took him to the vet, we re-spelled it Kacey. That's how they pronounced it.

.

So after relaying my story yesterday about the 2nd birth certificate I decided to check into it again. The spelling is actually Katherin, with no e. I went ahead an ordered a copy of it. Be curious to check it out.

Skye: IMHO the "sky" is the big blue thing above our heads, Skye is a name. BTW I went to school with a Skye and he was a boy. He had a brother named Storm. :sad2:

Payton = girl (my DD9 has a friend named Payton)
Peyton = boy. Not sure why it strikes me that way, it just does.

We have a Skye and Storm---siblings, both brothers at our school. I believe the sister's name is Autumn.

I haven't read the whole thread but we have a Geoffrey (the English spelling to make it different than a cousin)...his nickname at school was G-off.

We also have a Karalyn, she loves the spelling but many call her Caroline by mistake. Always interesting.

We have a kindergartener this year at the school I work at whose name is spelled Eoin. I finally broke down and said to him (since he was wearing a name tag) "You have a really special way of spelling your name. Is there a special way to say it too?"

Nope. Yet another "Owen" in the pronunciation world. Apparently the parents wanted a kid named Owen, but didn't want it to be the same as the dozen other kids in town with the same name.

That's actually the Irish spelling of it. Not a new cre8ive way.

I have never understood this mentality..no matter how you spell it..it still sounds the same..so Eoin is still Owen to the ear and Eoin still has to have last initial used to identify him from the 4 other Owens.

how would you spell the two girls names Skye or Sky Payton or Peyton?????

My DD's middle name is Sky, yup, just like that.

I have a friend named Sky, just like that, his is short for Schyler, DD is just Sky. I didn't know Sky before I named my DD. lol

That's what I was going to say. :) It's not a unique spelling, it's the Irish way.

PSA: As a former skip tracer for delinquent auto loans, please note that unusual spelling makes our job much easier (as opposed to looking for John A. Smith in NYC.) :rotfl2:

I know we're in the age where people spell their children's names all different now. But I think I came across the oddest one yet.

I drive a school bus (so all you teachers will agree with me, I'm sure) and I get many students each year that will have a seemingly "normal" name but with an off the wall way of spelling it. Heck, my sister named her son Devvon. Why the extra "V" is beyond me, but hey, it's not my kid. Anyhow, today a boy comes on my bus with a pass and it's says....Beihle. I could NOT for the life of me figure out what his name was. Finally broke down and asked him. His name is Bailey!!!

What about you? Do you know anyone who has an unusual spelling of their name?

I have a friend with the last name "Beihle" - same spelling. Perhaps this child was named after a family member's last name.

Oh mercy I could go on for days about creative spellings and made up names. This is near the top of my peeve list. These parents should really consider the fact that their children will have to go their entire lives with a ridiculous name. SMH.

In our family we have a Karley but at least you can figure that out.

My sister's name is Kaureen sounds like Maureen just with a K. Except family everyone still pronounces it wrong so she just started going by Reniee and they get that right lol.

My name is Rachel but you would not believe how many people I have to spell it for they all want to add the a.

I wanted a non top 100 name for DD but not uncommon so we wouldn't have issues and people still want to call her Annabella her name is Annabelle is that unusual or hard?

We do have friends that named their daughter Raychel (I'm not even sure that's right lol)

Talking about Birth Certificate mistakes my middle name was supposed to be Lizabeth and my Dad added an E so they just left it and now I'm Elizabeth.

My brother is Jett and we have met two other Jett's both spelled differently. One was Jet and the other was Jhett. Jett often gets called Jeff (despite the fact that they are clearly t's :confused3 ) I love this thread and have a feeling it wont be ending ANY time soon as there are so many creative (or clueless) parents out there :)

The worst was a woman I knew names Lisa, it was spelled Leeca, I thought it was pronounced Leak-a at first!

My DS' gf … while they are not young … 25yo … her name is KAITLIN.

Do you know that you cannot find anything with Kaitlin spelled that way … like little trinkets, key chains etc … every one spells it with a Y = KAITLYN.

DS ordered her bday cake (July) and even though he was very clear on the spelling … bakery still spelled it wrong.

AS FAR AS THE WAY THOSE PARENTS SPELLED BAILEY … SHEESH. :headache:

Our daughters named is Caitlin :)
