Unused/Unlinked Magic Your Way Tickets Being Locked For "Security"?

Purchased a handful of Magic Your Way tickets in 2015 just prior to end of the "no expiration" option. Today I went to add the park media to My Disney Experience, the card ID was successfully linked to my MDE account. However, no park entitlements showed up in MDE - only the ID number and card showed up under the "Manage Magic Bands and Cards" section of MDE.

Called into Disney support, they confirmed they saw the ID number as being added but no park entitlements were on the card. They requested I send them photos of the cards that showed the admission media printed on them (10 Day PH/10 WPF&M/No Exp) (side note I learned that emails to ticket.usage@disneyworld.com can route to the phone support team immediately). They were then able to further escalate, and confirm the admission media was valid with a supervisor. They were then able to link the missing entitlements to my MDE account.

While waiting for the supervisor to authorize the entitlements, the phone support cast member mentioned this was due to a "recent change this month" where Disney is locking unused tickets "for security". That seemed like an unusual statement, so curious if anyone else thinks this was just a typical Disney IT quirk. OR might there be some new policy being planned for unused legacy tickets. To add to any tin foil hat thinking, the tickets that were added appear in the app and on the MDE site as "We cannot display the product name right now. Please check back later." instead of "10-Day Magic Your Way Ticket with Park Hopper & Water Park Fun & More & No Expiration Options" that previously added admission media showed.

Oh brother, that’s ridiculous. I have 2 AP vouchers I bought from Sam’s club before the last big increase, I think 2018 or 2019. I haven’t linked them to MDE. Guess maybe I need to do that soon.

Thanks for the heads up. Glad you got this sorted. I also have some older unlinked tickets that I will need to deal with at some point.

It could be that some older tickets were stolen but never used and I doubt Disney would tell you that. Or they may have found some scams where people are selling the same tickets to multiple customers (such as on Ebay) and this is a way to prevent those tickets from being used without having to call Disney. If you have legit tickets purchased from an official source and they can resolve it over the phone, then I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Well as a follow-up 24 hours later. I suspect this is more so an IT quirk as the the tickets are showing up in MDE App with the right attribution (the "We cannot display the product name right now. Please check back later." seems to have disappeared), however on the MDE website the tickets are not showing at all but they still must be linked as I was able to make park reservations.

Regarding the "for security" precaution - as a data point the tickets were purchased from an authorized reseller (Undercover Tourist) AFTER Disney discontinued the no expiration option but while the reseller still had some tickets left. I still have some tickets I plan to use in the future so it'll be interesting to see if I'll still have to call in to get them activated. I'm not overly worried about Disney not honoring the admission - its more the hassle of a 30-90 minute phone call.

Just to clarify…..we’re you able to make park reservations once you linked the tickets even though you couldn’t see the ticket media? Or did you have to make the call first and get them unlocked.

This was for the admission media I had to call in to "unlock" I have not tried adding any more unused tickets myself directly in the app/site
  • After contacting Disney they immediately appeared in the MDE app & website (albeit with the "We cannot display the product name right now. Please check back later." language)
  • A few hours later they appeared correctly in the MDE app without the right ticket type & number of entitlements. however the tickets disappeared from the MDE website. Using the MDE website, even though the ticket's didn't appear - they must have been correctly associated with my account as I was able to make park reservations.
  • Update 2 days later, the tickets ARE appearing on the MDE website with the return of the "We cannot display the product name right now. Please check back later." error as well as an additional error on the page "We cannot display all your ticket or pass details right now. Please check back later." Also under the ticket it shows "Valid: Sat, Feb 28, 2015 – Thu, Dec 31, 2099" which is notable as the other no-expiration tickets on my account used to show Dec 31, 2030 as the expiration date. So more credence to this being an IT quirk more than anything else. BUT also hoping this is an indicator that 2030 really was just a "placeholder" date their IT team put in place.

FIY, we have Canadian no-expiration tickets in our MDE accounts and after I contacted Disney regarding my daughter’s ticket that is under DH’s account, his ticket expiry date changed from 2030 to 2099. Mine (on a different MDE but linked) still has the 2030 expiry. Weird!

I noticed something similar happen. We have two AP vouchers purchased in, I think, 2018. I moved one of them from the dummy person over to the real version of me and it now shows good through 2099. The other one still shows 2030. I'm guessing that for tickets/vouchers that don't "expire", they have pushed the date out since 2030 is suddenly not all that far away.
