Okay... got my recipes... I think I am set. Maybe. I guess we are doing a Thanksgiving after all!:lmao:

$5 turkey dinners from our Cast Cafe. bleh, the last time i tried their turkey, i wanted to puke. nastiest piece of crap i have eaten...

yeah... well our turkey was free. Next time, make your own!:lmao:

Okay... so dh comes home this morning and plunks down a ginormous turkey. Its like 20lbs... WTH are we gonna do with that thing. I can do a small one, no problem! Its like cooking a chicken. But I want to make it special... What would one make for Thanksgiving? Alison? I know you have some ideas!:lmao: Here are my thoughts...
Turkey
Gravy
Stuffing
Mashed Potatoes
Cranberries (yes, the kind that look like a can!:lmao: )
and I guess a vegetable, huh? I know!! Roasted broccoli! Everyone loves that!:thumbsup2
So... I guess I need to go to the store. I guess I should call my mom and get the recipe for the stuffing. Desert you say? Oh... I hadnt thought of that. Okay... well.. Pumpkin Pie, Pecan Pie, and Mississippi Mud pie. Gag... I wonder... do I really have to call my mom, or are these recipes going to be online? Ahhh... Gonna have to buy cool whip. Need to make a list...

Calm down, take a deep breath....you can do it!! It's really quite easy!

20 lb turkey?? :scared1: :scared1:

Costco has excellent pumpkin pies for $5.99!:thumbsup2

Here's my dinner:

Turkey
Stuffing
Mashed potatoes
Gravy
Cranberry sauce (yep the kind in a can, cause that's what they like!)
Cheese stuffed celery
Deviled eggs
Fruit salad
Rolls
Pumpkin pie
Apple pie

I don't serve veggies with mine. Instead I get a veggie tray and dip for everyone to munch on before dinner. Then that way they stay out of the kitchen and don't eat junk all day long. Over the years I've made different things, but we have kind of narrowed it down to just the stuff we really like.

That's not good. You know those turkey legs you sell taste an awful lot like ham! :rolleyes1

Alison!!! How did you know I needed you? Was it the poop vibes I was sending out?:lmao: How Long do I cook that big fella? Do I stuff it first? Or make the stuffing and cook it separately? Its half frozen... Now what? Do I have to baste it?

I agree! Costco's pumpkin pie is the bomb!! It's the only pumpkin pie I'll eat. Too bad it's so big. :rotfl:

Staley if you buy those Reynold's Oven bags for turkeys, there is instructions on how to cook it on the back of the box. My family and I used it and it tastes really good and is super easy!

Does it have a pop up timer in it, if so go by that. There is probably a chart on the wrapper. But if all else fails then I would say 350 degrees for 4-5 hours. I don't baste mine or stuff it, too much hassle. Just put in the pan and cover with tinfoil. Take the foil off for the last 30 minutes or so of cooking so the skin will turn brown. Most turkeys are injected with broth nowadays, so you really don't have to baste. But do save the drippings to make your gravy with.

I put my stuffing in separate pans and cook the last hour or so that the turkey is cooking. I usually use bread loaf pans because then they will fit in the oven with the big turkey roaster pan.

Put the turkey in the fridge. If it's really frozen you might need to take it out Thanksgiving morning and run it under water in your sink to get it to thaw out. If it's only half frozen then it will probably thaw out enough in the fridge. Don't forget to reach inside to pull out the giblets & neck and stuff. Put them in a pan & boil to make a broth for your gravy & stuffing.

Excellent! Where would I be without you? That sounds much easier then all the other recipes I have found..:thumbsup2 I think it is only half frozen... It was most likely sitting outside on a pallet all day yesterday.:scared1: I know, but it is still mostly frozen.

And if you really want to see your family laugh, just cut out tinfoil to make a turkey bikini!
