We love Solvang. We have been camping at Refugio State Beach for almost 20 years, and we always make a stop on our way down to Solvang. But so far we have been hit and miss on the food. We found great ablesceevers (sp?), but have not found a great place to eat yet. Do you have any suggestions?

PS- Bernice this a great place to go visit. Very Danish European and quaint. Lots of gingerbread decor and windmills. It's about 45 minutes to an hour above Santa Barabra I think. I've never paid attention to the time it takes.

There ae several along the "main highway" DW was raised with that type of food (pickled fish, etc) and LOVES some of those dishes. "The little Mermaid" next to the Peterson Inn is O.K., and there is one on a side street that has a danish bakery in the front. We Like to say at least two days, and I ALWAYS bulk up. Usually we try and go there, then down to DL so we can "walk it off" before heading home!!

here is a really good web site, and yes we have visited almost every shop and dining establishment there!!
www.solvangca.com It makes a GREAT pre-vacation stop on the way to the magic kindom!!:cool1:

ohhh, sounds like a trip we would like. Every few years I have a hankering for pickled herring. But not an everyday food, the smell gets to be too much sometimes!

weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee house! :)

wooooppppppppppppppppppeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee yep, I love watching House too. Though I didn't like that episode as much, the fork in the socket thing was interesting turn of events though,

Wow - I thought I was alone here!!! :goodvibes

I am glad that Shawna met up with Alex - I was hoping they would find eachother. It is a bummer though that you missed her Pixster. I just couldn't believe how easy it was to run into everyone in such a big place. Even people I didn't know it seemed like I was always in the same place as them.

Next week should be crazy - we have to pack and clean this place, as well as load up a bunch of stuff from Gilbert. We were going to rent a U-Haul but they want $500 just for the hunk of metal - not including insurance, gas or any other added fees. I really don't want to pay that much for us to move ourselves (especially since we are not moving everything - that could get pretty expensive when we have to move it all again) So I am not sure exactly the game plan. The house is unfurnished - so we have to grab the couch, all the kitchen stuff and probably just our air mattress. (and ALL of our WINTER CLOTHES!!!)

Have you tried Budget truck? They have AAA discount, sometimes they are cheaper than Uhaul. If you move midweek (or even mid month) it's much cheaper, but I know it's not always optimal with work and whever your current lease expires.

Comparably warm - we have a 50% chance of snow by Halloween...the lowest number we have seen so far is 28 on the car thermostat :scared1:
HA! That's nothing. Long sleeves, light weight coat, mitten weather. No need for the heavyjacket until it hits the teens. ;)

Not yet - I am trying to buy it all in pieces. So far we all have really warm thermal jammies, as well as thermal pieces to mix and match. Still just have light jackets - but it is only cold so far early morning and late night. Since we are starting completely from scratch on buying winter clothes (you mean winter clothes doesn't mean wearing socks with your capri pants???) I am trying to start out on an as needed basis.

i had no idea where you moved to that it would snow there...take it from someone who was raised in snow...you need to buy in a hurry because your screwed if they sell out of stuff and you dont want frost bite lord have mercy:rolleyes1

YES!!! The snow pants will sell out faster than anything else. Walmart has decent prices for snowpants, mitten and hats. Kids will outgrow them by next year anyway, buy em cheap. Didn't really care for their coats, I usually get mine at JcPenney's.
Boots, not too bad of a selection at Kmart for the kids. Grownup boots, best bet would be to get nice ones at Kohl's.. they will last longer.

Do you have a Target?? They usually have tons of hats and mittens clearanced out, good idea to stock up for next year when they hit 50 or 75% off. My kids lost their gloves/ mittens every season.

:
I have never lived in snow, so this will be quite a shocker for me. Both me and DH lived in Mesa/Gilbert our entire lives!!! :scared1:

New experiences are fun! The kids will love playing in the snow. Make sure to get a good tobaggon/ slide, the long plastic ones are the best-- and cheap!

i remember growing up even into my teen years...when I went out, I would wear thermal shirt and long johns...my pants and shirt plus a sweater...2 pairs of socks...boots...gloves hat scarf and huge coat....

WOW! If I was out at my mom's (in the country) we would bundle in layers, but in the city we never had a need to bundle up too much. Really depends on wind chill--- 40 below windchill - eeek! now that's horribly cold, and more likely to get frost bite on any exposed flesh in SECONDS!

I am definitely not grumbling about it being cold - at least not yet!!! It is supposed to be 98 degrees in Gilbert where I just moved from - I will never grumble about 70 degrees!!! When I have snow on the ground - I do reserve the right to grumble!!! :rotfl2:

I always hated the unending winter- blahhh grey skies for week's on end. Hubby has seasonal affected depression, made sure to be out on sunny days!

Hello everyone I am back did you all miss me??? So we finally have a flat...well not yet but we have a choice so tomorrow we'll have a flat.

AWESOME!!!!!

As if it wasn't depressing enough that I didn't get to go to DL. Today I spent most of the day looking up flight & hotel information for my boss to go to Maui the week before Thanksgiving. Of course I volunteered to go along to be a nanny for their 4yo. Wonder if they'll go for it!:rotfl2:

Where oh where have the Hyena's gone?
Oh where oh where can they be?
With their tails cut short & their ears cut long, oh where oh where can they be?

Hey Alison, what's up? I haven't seen you around much! How have you been? popcorn::

So glad you showed up. I was just about ready to start posting weird cat photos or self interview!:lmao:

I've been pretty good. My boss has been at work for the past few weeks so I can't Dis too much during the day. I've been kind of tired at night so haven't stayed up too late. I think maybe it's just the weather change and it's getting dark earlier, so I get tired earlier. :confused3

Anything exciting happening in your life? Besides getting Dreamed! You guys got fastpasses didn't you? I was so excited when I got mine at Epcot.

I'm sorry you've been feeling tired. We all miss you!! :grouphug:

Bernice and I got fastpasses to DL & DCA. It was really cool! That's cool that you got dreamed at WDW! :cool1:

I hope Alex gets dreamed! She's going to be there for a few more days. :cutie:

Hey guys!! How is everyone on this fine freezing evening?

Great!! I'm loving the cool weather.:thumbsup2 Never in a million years did I think I would appreciate it, but sure feels great with the hot flashes!:thumbsup2

So how was the trip?? I sure wish I would have been able to go. I almost did, but the price on Travelocity just wasn't right. Now I'm kind of glad I didn't go because I just got our auto & homeowner's insurance bills in the mail this week!:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: But I really wish I could have gone!!!

It was fun and I'm glad I got to finally meet Alex! :goodvibes Her DS3 and DS7 are adorable! Her DS3 said: "Hi Pixie!" :rotfl: Bernice and I got to hang with Dizzy and Staley for a bit too.

Bernice and I also won a fastpass ticket to ride HM. I was scared but she told me the Nightmare Before Christmas theme is not bad. We got stuck where Madame Liotta is and I hate her!! :scared1: :scared1: She convinced me to ride it to see evil Teddy and she laughed when I said he wasn't cute! :rolleyes1 :rotfl2:

We forgot to show Alex the secret bathroom and Uranus!! :rotfl2: We did say: "Look! It's Uranus!" when we came out of Space Mountain though ;)

I haven't really been tired, just getting ready to hibernate for the winter I guess! :lmao: It gets dark here early and it just feels like you need to go to bed earlier.

It was cool to get the fastpass, but Epcot was so slow we didn't need them at all. I only used one, when we took a friend on Soarin.

I'll have more time to DIS when my boss leaves for the winter!:lmao: He travels to our hotels during the summer and goes to Sun Valley for the winter. But right now he's just in the office every day with all sorts of projects for me. We are working on next years budgets, etc... Just a bunch of end of busy season stuff. I've missed you guys too!

oh, it was fabulous!!! We had the best trip we have ever had, and we loved the road trip aspect of it. We were able to be as spontaneous as we wanted, we were able to throw in a visit to my mom. :thumbsup2 It was relaxing and fun, and we LOVED staying on site!!! The Grand is GORGEOUS!!! The bed was super comfy, and the kids loved the bunk beds.:lmao: I wish you would have been able to make it too.. We had a good time meeting up with everyone. DH was much more chill this time, he was like, " go visit your friends and chat, Ill watch the kids!" In june he was way grumpy the WHOLE trip! This time he was much more like himself!:thumbsup2 He was so relaxed, and he totally didnt want to go back to work!:lmao:

I know, soon we will have daylight savings again and it will feel weird! It has been really hot here this week. I really don't like it because on Monday it was 91 degrees or 97 and then today it was a little better but still a tad bit hot. I really want the summer weather to go away!! :headache:

I figured you were really busy at work. Usually you say hi to us during your lunch break :)
