My weight now is 394. My highest weight was 465 so I have lost quite a bit and am planning to continue to lose. My trip isn’t until next November. By then I am hoping to be in the lower 300’s at least. I’m having second thoughts about this trip. I’m afraid I still won’t be able to ride attractions even in the lower 300’s. I have bad knees so will be using a scooter. That worries me too...I’m afraid I’ll have trouble transferring onto rides due to my knees. Any thoughts?
I was able to ride a lot of things when I was at my heaviest, about your current weight. I think had I been better healed and more mobile i would have been fine on most things.
Exactly how bad are your knees? Can you get in and out of a bathtub without assistance at home? go up a few steps? step down into something? If so, I think you will be fine transferring on most things. Will you have someone there to help you? I would suggest searching
youtube for videos of the loading process for rides to get an idea of where you might be ok, and where you might need accommodation or assistance. there are a lot of things you can stay in your EVC for. Some things will want you to transfer to a wheelchair. I found that the transfer wheelchairs were not wide enough for me, so be aware of that. It kept me off of some things, but for others, we got it sorted.
Have you ever been with a scooter before? WDW is remarkably scooter and wheelchair friendly. There was a lot I could do.
I too hesitated to go at my highest weight. I had fallen about 6 months before and really injured my knee. I was pretty close to immobile for a long time afterwards and gained. I was getting some mobility back, but nowhere near 100% and didn't trust my knee at all, particularly with the extra weight. I still couldn't climb in and out of the tub to shower. I went anyway and just didn't ride anything i wasn't sure my knee would hold up for. I had been once before on a scooter, just after I got hurt so I had an idea of what to expect.
I will likely still be in the scooter for our upcoming trip. My knee is a lot better, but I am still having some back issues from my fall that make walking long distances extremely painful. I have also lost a good bit of weight so that helps.
