Probably had too much sun in the garden but I think they are attacking my white & yellow roses more so than the darker flowers.
What do you think? :scratchin
Are they eating :tongue:everything or are they being selective?

I rarely see them around anymore, more people are treating their lawns and putting traps up. Also since I got rid of the roses they have moved on.

I did notice their first choice was always the yellow and white roses then moving on to the other light colors.

I actually read that J beetles prefer lighter colored flowers in one of my gardening mags. Someone actually studied this!

and beans, and raspberries, and ..........

These are the one bug I despise. I was working in the ER one day when this poor guy came in with a J-beetle in his ear. He tried getting it out himself but it wouldn't come out. What's worse is the thing kept biting him! He was in agony. We put some viscous Lidocaine in his ear to numb the pain which happily also drowned the thing, but a surgeon had to come in to get the darn thing out. Those barbs in the legs had really jammed it in. Now I can't stand hearing those nasty things flying around me. I cover my ears and run.

OMG, that's awful, poor guy. Now I'll be covering my ears too!!!! :scared:

I was pinched by an earwhig once when I was deadheading. I couldn't shake the bugger off. He was hanging on between my thumb and forefinger.

Gardening can be hazardous to your health & now dangerous. Soon the latest garden fashion will be a bee keepers suit, leather gauntlet gloves, spf 50 & insect repellantant underwear:crazy2:

Yup, underwear! I read that ticks like to crawl all the way up legs :eek:

Our J beetles like the sweetest smelling roses first and then head for anything else. In the last two years they have even started eating my geraniums which are usually bug proof! This year they attacked an old white climbing rose that has no scent and they had never bothered with before. I've had that rose for close to 30 years and never, ever have they bothered with it. I found Ortho Rose and Flower spray really discourages those little buggers.

After 3 years of absolutely zero sign of them, there in my yard with a vengence.

Apparently, their favorite food is my Basil. Oddly, I have several tomato plants and I have not seen a single beetle on one. Perhaps it helps that I planted Marigolds around the tomato plants.

Any suggestions on how to get rid of these nasty creatures quickly?

OK, I just found 2 J beetles on my yellow roses, but not on the other ones. They are now in J beetle heaven!!! :teeth: I haven't had beetles in probably 3 years.

They haven't touched the red roses at all :confused3
Friday they attacked our fruit trees like they had never eaten.
I ran out for Sevin and ran into a crowd of people at Home Depot looking for anything to get rid of them. HD was completely sold out as well as Agway. Finally found some at our local garden center but the $$!

The weather was just right for the grubs aka J.Bs. First it rained a lot then we had nice dry weather and plenty of sunshine. If I could I would get rid of the grubs once and for all but it's almost impossible here with the woods and the size of the property.Just have to attack them when they strike I guess. pirate:
We had a blast this 4th blasting the JBs

All they like in my garden are the raspberry leaves.
