Unpopular Opinions

Along with the know-it-alls are those who post when they don't have an answer, eg. "I'll let those in Florida answer this." If you don't have an answer, don't reply.

I better stop now, or I'll get a bad reputation.:duck: Have a great night everyone!

I wonder if these folks don't know how to subscribe to a thread/watch a thread without posting. I see the same thing on Facebook. People respond with a . just to post on the thread, junking it up, so that they get notifications, instead of just subscribing.

Every once in a while I might say "I don't know the answer but I'm also interested." Basically in an attempt to raise the incentive level for someone to take the time to post the answer. :)

No, not you Schmoo. I appreciate your posts. You give a lot of good information without being overbearing and you'll admit your wrong if someone points out different information. :flower1:

Exactly. Never admitting they're wrong and the whole "my way or the highway" attitude is annoying. The vast and varied experiences of all disers is why many value this site. But when you have certain posters who come off as if only their experience and information is valid it taints the board for everyone. Everyone's contributions matter whether you actually experienced it or learned it through research. As long as you are not making it up, we're good! LOL

Sorry for continuing the :offtopic: discussion (always wanted to use that smiley!! :goodvibes), but to me this is what makes discussion boards so great: the insight from many different voices. If I just want to read one person's experience and opinion, then I read a blog. On a discussion board you get a lot of different view points. And you can make out what you take from it. Information can easily be outdated and there are constantly people on here who returned from their cruise the previous week and can bring the latest insight. I think the fancy term for the common DIS knowledge would be "swarm intelligence". ;)

And to bring it back on topic. I love this thread, thanks to @mylittlebuttercup for starting it! It illustrates that one should never accept the popular opinion as the only truth! what might work really well for 95% of the people might not be right for you and your group. I sometimes read very negative reviews of something on the DIS and then decided to do that experience because, I know that the issues someone else had would not be issues for me.

I don't think the dcl transfers are a waste of money...i don't need a stop...and having the freedom of not seeing my luggage from the time i leave it at the door until the carousel when i get home is pretty darn awesome.

I agree. For two adults (and a toddler who doesn't count into the price yet), I actually find the DCL transfers more economical than other options like a towncar. I'm not sure if a car rental would be cheaper because I didn't investigate that, but the hassle involved with renting/returning would not be worth it to me just to save a few bucks.

It's a big hassle, but for 4 people it's a huge savings. We continue to do it, but yeah waiting on those rental car shuttles is a real PITA. I read a year or so ago that they are going have car rentals at the terminal. I don't know when that supposed to happen, but it sure would be nice.

If we had four people that cost, I would definitely strongly consider other options to save money too! But in our case (which I discussed above), it just does not make sense!

We always end up taking a cab from the car rental agency to the ship I have no patience. We fly in a couple days before the cruise and stay at Resort so that's another reason. I can usually get a 2 or 3 day rental for around 50.00 to 80.00. Takes a lot of work which consists of stalking the car rental web sites to get a good price from MCO to CC. In your situation you are better off just taking DCL transfers.

Even for my family (2 adults 1 toddler) the car rental is still cheaper...but a lot more hassle. We usually stay in the hyatt before, so it really makes the beginning of the trip a lot less stressful. Plus, i'm a very VERY antsy person on day 1...even though i always tell myself to calm down and relax, i get super excited and want to be on the ship already...so the additional time to drop off family/luggage, fill up gas, return car, get a taxi all adds to pent up pressure to want to get on the boat quicker...not always a good situation when a slow person on the road can make you lose it :)

Does your toddler cost yet? For our transfers from the Contemporary to the port and then the port back to the airport, we are paid $140 total because our toddler doesn't cost. Now, I imagine if I could rent/return before the cruise and rent/return after the cruise, it would be cheaper if I got a low rate. But the hassle of trying to get to a rental place from the hotel and port, driving on roads I am unfamiliar with, etc. is just not worth it to me. And parking it in the garage at the port would defeat the purpose because then it would no longer be cheaper. Plus, we hate driving on vacation.

This is my plan. Can you tell me how big a hassle it is to get a taxi from one of the rows of car rental agencies leading up to the port in PC, and back afterwards? The idea of waiting 45 minutes for a car rental shuttle gives me hives. Also, do you have a taxi company you'd rec? It looks like it's only a few miles so I'm not sure why so many people wait for the shuttles -- unless it takes just as long to wait for a taxi.

There are plenty of taxis waiting at the port when you disembark. As for taxis to the port, we always call from the hotel, so I'm not sure.

Thanks, that's a separate question I've been meaning to ask forever.

I have a feeling I already posted this way back in the thread, but:

I THINK GOPRO VIDEO FOOTAGE IN FISHEYE MODE IS EVIL AND MAKES PEOPLE MOTION SICK.

Thanks for listening. :)

Agree.

And selfie sticks are possibly the most annoying thing going these days. Come on DCL, WDW banned them on rides. You can put them on the "not allowed items" list easily!!
