Hello,

We have not been on the cruise in a couple of years but were informed by our travel agent yesterday that the DCL no longer sell mugs for soda but the sodas are now free? Can anyone tell me if this is true? I asked a DCL rep yesterday and she informed me that she has no idea.

Thanks!

Yes, there is now soda at the deck 9 drink station. There is still a charge in the bars though. You can buy a mug to use there but you don't need one to get soda during the day anymore.

I usually like to respond to those who complain by posting something to the effect of "lighten up, Francis" or something else to get some folks to quit their whining. But I read this and my reaction is that I do think a DCL rep should know their own cruise line's beverage policy. Maybe it is a minor point to others and its only a big deal to me because 95% of the liquid in my body comes from the Coca Cola company (its a city ordinance here in Atlanta to drink their products), but it is a policy that makes Disney unique in the industry and that was important enough to change a year ago or whenever it was--and yet the DCL rep doesn't know. I thought it was cute that the well intentioned, sweet older woman who checked us in at the Terminal for the Wonder in January had no idea about the beverage policy, but apparently she has company at DCL. The regulars here at DIS all know, and rumor has it, though not confirmed and doubted by many, that we actually have other jobs and lives unrelated to DCL ...so shouldn't CM's know?

Okay, just venting. Its okay if they don't know because a new guest can always come to the board and get the truth. Just hit a nerve because it reminded me of an incident where a waiter in a steak restaurant got the order wrong all night long, and still didn't get it when we said "yes, finally, you have brought a steak that is cooked medium, rather than cooked until it is shoe leather--but skippy, that there is a sirloin and we've been waiting for a filet for 2 1/2 hours". Too much to ask that a waiter in a steak restaurant, with the word Steak in the name of the restaurant, be able to recognize a strip, filet, ribeye, and top sirloin? I didn't think so. Yet even that waiter knew whether or not to charge me for a coke....

Logan, this is exactly what is going through my head too!!!!!!!!!! I would love the name of that rep... :rolleyes1 Do they know, and just can not be bothered. Or do all of us know more than they?? I am venting, and do not want to sound like a complainer, but, come on, it is their job to know...

After that, have a good weekend everybody...

Long weekend here..

LOL! That is so funny that you post that because that was my first reaction. :) I restrained myself from commenting on it but yes, it is rediculous that they don't know some of the latest selling points of thier own line.

To the original poster - yes, the Coke products, coffee, milk, and water are free on Deck 9. My husband is a very happy camper since his breakfast consists of nothing but Diet Coke. We're bring a travel mug with us so he'll be in caffiene heaven all morning long.

I've got to agree with the clueless thing with the DCL rep. I'm sure my travel agent wouldn't be able to answer the free soda question. Heck, my mother-in-law is still insisting that we can't bring wine on board with us.

It's sad to say that I've never even cruised before and I can probably tell a prospective guest more about Disney cruise line than an actual rep. And all I had to do was surf the net for about 15 minutes each day.

We are doing the parks first and buying the refillable mugs at the hotel. I read that these are bigger than the cups they provide at the station.

my DH got me a diet coke in Rockin Bar D and wasn't charged.... was this a fluke?

My DW and I have a question. We understand that the sodas at the drink station are free and that in the bars you have to pay. She say in a recent navigator on-line that they sell the souvenir mug is only $3. Now is that all you have to purchase to get free soda in the bars ?

No, there is always a charge in the bars...The mugs are just that, souvenirs..You can buy one if you like, it saves you nothing..Just easier to refill, larger than the cups at the drink station...

I have never purchased one in a bar, I will bring one in, or go and get one...Not cheap, just frugal.. :)

So I take it when they switched the deck nine drink station to free sodas they got rid of the unlimited drink packages you could buy?

Exactly...

If you go to the beverage station you can get unlimited soda, milk, tea, coffee, lemonade etc, and an unlimited supply of paper cups.

Didn't care for the old system of paying for unlimited drinks PLUS having to carry around a mug.
On the ship I only carry my KTTW card, get a new cup everytime I want drink, toss it out when I'm done.

I got sodas in Diversions and Preludes many times during my 11/2004 cruise, and I was never charged. I was never charged anywhere on the ship for soda. Have they changed this since then and now you have to pay in the bars???

It hasn't changed, they were supposed to charge you. You just got lucky.

The $3 mug will not get you soda in any bars. It's just to hold the soda you get on Deck 9. I bought the mug because I didn't want to carry one down and because it keeps the soda colder than the paper cups do.

You can order soda in the dining rooms and you won't be charged, but the bars are supposed to charge.
