I just receieved in the mail an application from Universal for an MC card which sounds just like the Disney Visa card. 0% on intro. balance transfers for 9 months, credit line up to $100,000, no annual fee and you can possible attend Universal Pictures movie premieres, awards show, movie or television set, backstage at a concert. Earn points for CDs, movie and concert tickets, DVDs, front-of-the-line passes at Universal and more.

I went to their website to check out the benefits to having this card. As far as I could see, it wouldn't beat the cashback cards that are out there. It may be worth having for the room and package discounts alone. With no annual fee it couldn't hurt to have.

Just a warning, however, having too many credit cards is not a good thing if you're looking to get a loan or refinance your mortgage. Lenders do not like to see that you have the potential to charge up an enormous amount, even if you do pay off your cards promptly each month and have excellent credit.

Okay (as I jump off of my soapbox) some of the perks I saw:

A 2-day 2-park pass will cost you 10,000 rewards points per adult, 8000 per child. That's the equivalent of spending $10,000 at a rewards rate of $1 spent = 1 rewards point. A cashback card will give you at least 1% back, so you would get at least $100 for the same amount of spending. Right now, Ticketmania offers the same pass for $92.00 including taxes and free shipping.

Various VHS tapes at 1000 pts apiece. Music cds starting at 1500 pts.

GC's from Hard Rock Café, Chili's, Best Buy, AMC Theaters, Macaroni Grill, Olive Garden, Morton's Steakhouse and Sam Goody starting at 2000 points for a $15 GC.

Electronics items like portable CD players, pocket TVs and stereos from Sharper Image.

Universal logo merchandise starting at 1500 pts. for fannypacks, caps and t-shirts.

Vacation pacckages starting at 80,000 pts. for 3 nights at the RPR, including 2-day park pass, one day Wet 'n Wild and one meal at a CityWalks restaurant.

There are other benefits to the card, including room and package discounts. You can view it all their website. Here's the link:

I used to have their card years ago. I got three free tickets to the parks. The 10% off a the stores was nice too.

I still have to see what Disney's would offer to call it better or worse, but since I was most interested in saving up award miles, I closed my Universal cc account.

Am I correct in assuming that with this rewards card you could not use partial points for part of your trip? Like, if I did not have 10,000 points for a 2 day 2 park ticket, or enough for an entire vacation package, could I use what points I did have to pay for just my room? Or pay for a portion of it? I'm just guessing the WDW card will be similar, and if you have to use points for a full package, or if only certain passes are available, we'll be jumping through hoops for no reason. Does that make sense?

They never do, dunningdisney

I have yet to learn of a cc where you earn anything besides interest charges from balance transfers...

I use have a Universal c ard to until they cancel when it was Discover. I only sign-up for it because they was give-up away free t-shirts at the time. I don't charge enough to use these kinds of cards so I don't have them. I have very few charge cards because I'm compulsve and will charge everything in site so I limit myself.

Also I made a promise once I get debt free I'm staying debt free.

I have reach my goal.:D
