We are spending a few days in LA (Renaissance) and plan to spend one day at Universal. This is likely to be beg of Oct (Thursday 1st or Friday 2nd).

I am presuming the Thursday will be quieter than Friday?

Will we need FOL passes or will it be quiet that time of year?

Is it worth going on the VIP tour. I know its a lot more money but happy to pay if its worth it. Are you in a 'tour' all day, or do you get time to 'do your own thing'?

Thanks for looking.

It's very slow at Universal in October. They close early on
Thu/Fri because of their Horror Nights event. The FOL pass
offers a nice behind the scenes look at a few of the shows
so can be a good deal even on slow days.

The VIP tour really gets you into areas closed to the genera
l ticket holders and includes the priority seating and behind
the scenes look at the shows, too. Once the backlot tour is
over, you can stick with the tour guide for all the tips and
tricks or you can go off on your own.

I'd like to know also. We're going to be in Anaheim on the 21st-28th September. Thinking about going to Universal on Thurs, Fri, Sat or Sun. Which of these days would be better?

Will universal be crowded during this time and do you think we'll need FOL passes?

Have to agree with the time of the year. We have done VIP twice now and plan to do it again in August. You get to see many sets, get out and walk around. Desparate Housewives was shooting and we got to see some of the behind the scenes stuff, prop warehouse, Grey's Anatomy, etc. The family is big film buffs so it fits our tastes.
www.Getawaytoday.com has the VIP tickets as of now.

Have fun,

Jack

Thursday will be slower and shorter lines for USH.

It's very slow at Universal in September. They will close early
on Friday and Saturday the last week in Sept because of their
Horror Nights event. Typically at all theme parks the weekends
are more crowded then the week days. So Thrusday will be
the slowest day with Friday and Saturday being more crowded
and Sunday slowing down a little.

The FOL pass offers a nice behind the scenes look at a few of
the shows so can be a good deal even on slow days.

I'm going for the VIP Tix when I go. My question is how do you get to Universal from the Renaissance hotel? I don't drive.

You will walk through the Mall to Hollywood Blvd. The
Metro station is located next to American Eagle Outfitters.
You will take the Red Line (subway) one stop to the
Universal City Station.

There you will catch the shuttle (across the street - just
follow the crowd) to USH.

Ask the concierge at the front desk for directions to the
station.

As someone who has done it...

TAKE THE TOUR!

It's worth the money, you see the place and you have time afterward for shopping and your tour lanyard is your express pass...do it!
